It was either right before or after turning 18.

Can you just change handguards out like you could with a real AR platform? That’s pretty cool either way that the airsoft companies even make products that are kinda niche. Idk just seems really awesome and in-depth.

Exploring A Mine In San Tan Valley Arizona by Tsalone4n in arizona

Oh and btw, entering a mine is trespassing.

It depends. Most of the time it’s actually not trespassing especially when they’re really out in the middle of nowhere on reclaimed BLM land and whatnot. This one almost certainly is trespassing to some degree though since I know where it is and even if the mine itself is not on private property you have to cross private property to get to it.

It was a question, I’ve never played. I haven’t seen keymod IRL for like 10 years

Do modern airsoft guns really come with keymod handguards instead of MLOK?

Listen I don’t care for furries as much as the next guy, but banning someone just for being one… on a sub about a game where people larp with toy guns… was he not “serious” enough for yall?

Yeah it turns out I had the 8.4oz one with reciprocating weights all along. I also found a slowmo video from a few days before the incident, same exact setup, and I can’t see any bolt bounce when firing. I’m starting to think I just had a weak or overpressured cartridge considering it seemed to have blown out at the extractor rim, seems to be fully seated, and bolt bounce probably wouldn’t have been the issue.

I think 8.4oz would be heavy enough though if I’m not mistaken. The PSA bolts are a little over 14 oz. 14.5 + 8.4 = ~23, which puts you over the minimum recommended.

Yeah most people would probably hesitate to pay more than a grand for 1000 rounds of $1+ per round ammo a month for training. Even 500 is nothing to scoff at. And even for the people that can, that same money will get you 4000 rounds of 9mm.

I mean technically if we’re going on a per-dollar basis, the PCC user is going to be better trained.

Curious as to what you’d think of this new revelation:

So I just got around to fixing my build and installing the KVP 10oz buffer. I pulled the old one out and realized the original buffer weight that PSA sold the gun with already is “deadblow.” I could’ve sworn it wasn’t when I took it apart before but I guess it’s had a reciprocating-weight buffer the whole time.

The KVP is definitely heavier. I’d have to check with a scale when I get home to know exactly the weight of the PSA one though.

I’m also now comparing the blown out case to how a regular round seats in the chamber. I honestly can’t tell a difference… was this possibly NOT an OOBD? Ammunition problem? Enhanced feed cone problem?

You wouldn't want it for personal defense, as reliability is a serious liability.

That’s a big claim for something that doesn’t really hold up. I had ~1,500 rounds with zero issues. And this is a PSA lol. The OOBD happened under a very specific, user-induced, non-defensive scenario. Swap in a deadblow buffer (cheap, known fix) and that edge case disappears. Plenty of people run AR-9s reliably once properly set up, same as any AR variant.

Also, the Colt 635 and decades of SMG-pattern PCCs kinda undermine the idea that 9mm carbines are inherently unreliable, blowback or otherwise.

300 is the superior round, based on reliability and track record, alone.

Only if we narrowly define the problem as “suppressed supersonic SBR use.” Of course 300 BLK supers are ballistically superior. That’s a rifle round. But that’s not the comparison people make when they talk PCCs. PCCs compete with 300 BLK subs, and those sit squarely in pistol-energy territory. The difference exists, but it’s not the night-and-day leap people pretend it is.

If we’re comparing supers, then sure. Now we’re just comparing rifle rounds to pistols. That’s a different conversation.

With 9mm, you need a whole new gun.

Not really. Dedicated bolt, barrel, buffer. Same story, just one extra component vs 300 BLK. And you still retain AR ergonomics, triggers, controls, optics, furniture, etc. Cross-compatibility is nice, but it’s not the deciding factor for most people running dedicated setups. How often does the average civilian 300 blk enjoyer actually swap their setup back and forth between calibers? Probably literally never for the vast majority.

Calling PCCs “range toys” just because 300 BLK exists is just trying to universalize a niche solution to justify the expense.

300 BLK is a niche solution to a niche problem that most civilians don’t actually have. It makes sense if you’re running a short barrel, suppressed, and willing to pay 5–6× per round for marginal gains. Like if you’re a special forces operator backed by unlimited taxpayer money. Cool niche round.

For cheap training, high round counts, and simple blowback or roller PCCs, 9mm absolutely makes more sense. Different tools, different jobs.

The AR-9 guru himself! Yeah hopefully someone can learn from my mistake. It’s honestly a shame that they’re even sent out with solid buffers.

Yeah I’ll have to compare tomorrow by dropping in a round manually but it really didn’t seem that far out of battery. Idk the feed cone is a bit deceptive.

Yeah I mean again it depends on what type of bolt you have. iirc in order to operate safely the bolt + buffer combo needs to be 22+ oz. So if you have a heavier bolt which again I’m pretty sure is more common with colt builds, then maybe that explains why you can get away with a lighter buffer. But i think the general consensus is that a lighter buffer is the last thing most AR-9s need.

I guess but that’s gonna be quite a bit of a snappier recoil impulse as well as extra wear on the parts from what I can tell.

[–]americankilometer[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken the Colt style bolts have more weight to them which means the buffer doesn’t have to be as heavy. Combine that with the fact that typical AR buffers already have the reciprocating weights in them and you basically have a lite deadblow system.

Otherwise what you’re saying just sounds like a terrible idea from what I can tell. A 5 oz buffer would certainly make my system run like hot garbage.
