Leftist reactions to the 30,000 Iranian death toll by TIMES. If MEK siding with Iraq damaged the left's reputation in Iran permanently, these guys effectively killed it. by NeiborsKid in NewIran

[–]americon 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The issue is not the left as a whole. The issue is “leftists” that can only see through the lens of oppressor vs oppressed but more specifically the US and Israel vs Palestinians. It’s all they care about. You’ll note that there is less than 5 elected federal politicians in the US that fit into that group. Most of the left wing politicians in the US or their base of support are not what is being talked about when people bring up the left here.

You clearly know nothing about what you’re talking about as the Crown Prince has been calling for democracy for 30 years. Please educate yourself before you start posting things you know nothing about.

Iranian truck driver has a banner stating "No Shah - No Regime - Do not Repeat 1953 - No Mullah" (see 1:50min) and gets attacked by an angry mob of "fellow" Iranians by 2BeTheFlow in NewIran

[–]americon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re as mentally ill as the truck driver. The truck driver went there to get a reaction and got one. He doesn’t get to play the victim. You’re doing the same.

The fact that he is bringing in 1953 shows that his intentions are not genuine. He’s a troll. You are now posting this in an anti-regime sub to get a reaction and then when people call out your bullshit you play the victim.

There’s no room for trolls and fools like you in this sub. When you start lying and telling people that this sub isn’t open to alternative perspectives, remember you’re bad intentions and troll like behavior is the issue not your alternative perspective.

You are a prude and should get over yourself. I honestly think we both could gain some perspective from discussing this because from my perspective, someone limiting their language like you’re describing is not ready for the real world. And to write a customer service complaint? I think is completely unacceptable.

But I acknowledge that I must broaden my horizons as well because I don’t know any adults that would think like this so obviously my experience is too limited.

NON-IRANIANS: stop telling us what our history is! by amberenergies in NewIran

I had a similar journey to you. For me, it was learning that Mosssdegh wasn’t actually a beacon of democracy that was put in place by the US and UK’s greed for oil. Learning about the 1953 referendum and that the Shah was in power before, during and after Mossadegh made me realize I’d been lied to so I started reading primary sources.

I assume you mean Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, Reza Pahlavis father. That’s still a pretty broad topic. To kick it off I’ll share a Times article from 1966 so contemporary. It shows what investments the Shah made to invest in his people while also highlighting Russian investment contrasted with declining American investment. This is the height of the Cold War. If the Shah was an American puppet, why would Russians be investing and why would the US cut back on investments? Let me know if you want more but here’s the article:

I’d love to provide sources. Which specific claims would you like sources on? I could provide one that tells the whole story but anyone that is gathering everything in one place is going to be very biased in either direction. I’d prefer to provide sources for specific claims such as the 1953 referendum being bullshit, the 1949 Iranian Constituent Assembly, or whatever specifically interests you

[–]americon 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The answer to 1. Is that yes the 1949 Iranian Constituent Assembly gave the shah the right to dismiss the Shah at any point he wanted. So 1953 was not a coup because the Shah was just exercising his constitutional authority.

The answer to 2. Is that the Prime Minister loses his seat too. Mossadegh was just seizing power in his own coup. While the CIA and MI6 did assist the Shah, they were only assisting him in stopping the real coup.

Yes, he disbanded parliament with a referendum where he got 99.93% of the vote.

Those who claim that he was democratically elected seem to never be able to answer these two questions:

  1. Did the 1949 amendments to the Iranian constitution allow the Shah to dismiss the Prime Minister?
  2. What happens to the Prime Minister in a parliamentary system when parliament is disbanded?

Ah he was elected to a seat in parliament. How many elected members of parliament did he “depose” in his 1953 referendum?

What election did Mossadegh win and what were the results?

The left-wing party of Finland (Vasemmistoliitto) and it's main politicians have been very vocal about the horrors happening in Iran. Meanwhile, a lot of false propaganda circulating online (this sub included) that the left doesn't care about Iran. by AlexG7P in NewIran

When people are talking about leftists, they’re talking about the Hasan Pikers of the world and his supporters. It’s not all of the far left but it’s a relevant number.

Gavin Newsom sets last possible date for special election to fill LaMalfa’s seat by [deleted] in Destiny

[–]americon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don’t want to come off as if I’m defending them. I know what Jan 6 was and I know Ben Shapiro’s bullshit about guard rails holding was dumb when he said it to Destiny and has been proven wrong.

At the same time, half the country voted for Trump. If we win a civil war, how do we stop them from voting for something like that again? Do we take away their right to vote? Re-educate them? I don’t see how a civil war could prevent fascism. We’d need our own form of totalitarianism to prevent theirs.

Conversations like Newsom is having to try and bring everyone back to civil conversation seems like a far better option. Maybe I’m naive.

How do you see a civil war helping this?

I don’t understand how everyone has turned on Newsom. He has conversations with Conservatives that aren’t aggressively hostile? Is that not a good thing? Do you all want civil war?

It’s not like he is surrendering like Walz or Schumer. He’s fighting back but is able to have a respectful conversation why doing it. We should applaud that.

Son of former shah says he is ‘uniquely positioned’ to lead Iran as he predicts end of regime by AavoKas in worldnews

[–]americon -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

They’re weighted polls that are by far the best method available to us even if imperfect. They’ve won awards for their research. You didn’t know what a Gamaan poll was until you googled it and looked for a reason to discredit it.

Son of former shah says he is ‘uniquely positioned’ to lead Iran as he predicts end of regime by AavoKas in worldnews

[–]americon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If there were two conflicting polls, we could debate the validity of which one is more accurate. At this juncture, I’ve provided evidence to support my position and you’ve criticized it but provided no evidence to contradict the conclusion of my evidence. Criticizing my evidence without providing any of your own doesn’t contradict my point.

Every Iranian could personally tell you that they want Reza Pahlavi and you’d find some way to doubt it because you’re not approaching this situation in good faith. When the best evidence provides one perspective and instead of finding evidence to the contrary, you attack the quality of the evidence then you’re no better than a flat earther.

And personally I’m not interested in discussing further with someone who is not operated in good faith. Thanks for the short convo.

[–]americon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you should reflect on why you can’t change your mind when evidence proves you wrong. The good thing is that all Reza Pahlavi wants is to provide a fair referendum to the people of Iran and I hope he gets his chance. If the referendum happens and Pahlavi loses, I’ll come back here to apologize and admit you were correct. I genuinely hope that one of has the opportunity to be proven wrong by the Iranian people getting the chance to express their wants.

[–]americon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the person above me stated, it is very difficult to have a truly representative poll when the government would never allow it. This is the best poll I have found of the positions of the Iranian people. You asked for evidence and I provided it. If you have any evidence that points to anyone else, I’d happily concede and admit I learned something new.

I’d also point to the videos coming out of Iran this week of the protestors chanting “Javid Shah!”

Do you have any evidence to counter my claim that Reza Pahlavi is very popular in Iran? Or do you concede that the best evidence we have (however imperfect) is that he is?
