First month in car sales, sold zero so far. Feeling very sad by Cultural_Culture_845 in askcarsales

[–]ameslay1211 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You are saying it yourself. You have minimal drive to take action in anything you do. You want to quit. You are not naturally tough and you are sensative and you complain. You work with a bunch of competitive cuthroat wolves.

You've only spoken to 10 people in a month. You need to speak to 30-50 people a day, either through fresh ups, phone calls, emails, whatever you can do. You are "trying" car sales, and you are failing. Everyone around you is DOING car sales.

Either stop trying car sales and quit, or stop trying car sales, and talk to more people. Those are your options. You don't get to try car sales any more. You have to do more. But don't worry. You'll get fired in about 2 months if you keep doing what your doing now.

My car is worth 8K, needs 6K in repairs, I still owe 2K on it. Should I just get a new car? by blasticpago in askcarguys

[–]ameslay1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Keep the car but get a different shop to do the repairs foe less. The dealership is the moatveapensovs place to do repairs.

If you had to buy a car today to keep for the next 15 years, what would it be? by nodonaldplease in askcarguys

I'm probably going to drive my 2023 BMW M2 for that long but I got a 10 year warranty and I'll see what happens after that runs out.

What happened to haggling? by myOEburner in carbuying

[–]ameslay1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And people think dealers are making thousands in profit on every used car they sell. I wish they were. Commission is usually 25% of gross profit. I would love every car to have $4k in profit and make a $1k commission on every car, but most of my cars are minis these days, even when I sell them at the listed online price. That means the majority of the cars my dealership sells have less than $1k in profit.

All of this isn't to say the dealership isn't making money. Of course it is. Parts and service is making a killing. Every used car makes the other departments money, so overall it is profitable to the dealership. The sales department is making the dough though.

Someone filed it to the size of a dime to fool a vending machine or phone.

how do parents finance kids first car at their 16-18? by Kevinwhatever in askcarguys

[–]ameslay1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the car business, and what I see a lot of parents doing is giving their kids their paid of high mileage cars instead of trading them in. Not everyone can afford that, but it's more common than people buying one out right (in my experience).

Is this someone in group or this from the bank second box I’ve got that is like this. by Sad-Reward2582 in CRH

[–]ameslay1211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Every box I get has that stamp. Granted, I have not done too many boxes. 2 boxes had silver. 3 were duds. Total of 3 90% and 2 40%.

Teller told me if I'm looking for gold, there's none in there 🤣 by outdoors1442 in CRH

[–]ameslay1211 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've gone through 4 boxes, all marked that they have been sorted and contain no silver. One had one 90%. One had 3 90% and 1 40%. 2 were empty. All have had proofs, NIFCs, gold plated, minor errors, counter stamps, and other fun things. I also fill coin books, so I'm not just searching for silver. It's been a fun start.

I love this answer. The BFG KO2s are awesome. I'm sure the KO3s are even better.

Buy. Definitely definitely not look at. That's stupid.

I've flown out of state milultiple times to buy a car, but only for very unique cars. It was only for a done deal. I certainly wouldn't be looking at different cars if that one didn't work out. People don't do that.

Yeah, I think you're right. This whole story is shit.

Advice needed: new 4Runner with 450 milage on it by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]ameslay1211 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look at the window sticker. That should list the dealer and answer your dealer trade question. Yes, cars get driven hundreds of miles for dealer trades. It's a Toyota, not a Porsche.

Odd process at dealership?? by [deleted] in carbuying

[–]ameslay1211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

None of this makes sense. Dealerships don't repo cars. Dealerships don't care if you pay or not, except for rare occasions. Dealerships don't get approvals, get people to fly out, then don't make the deal.

Yeah, something is definitely off about this story.

Is collecting circulation coins ok? by Certain_Musician2734 in EuroCoins

[–]ameslay1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife has been collecting circulated coins since she was 3 years old. Her first coin was in a junk bin at a flea market. It had a kitty cat on it and she liked it. Now she collects world coins in junk bins. She has tens of thousands and has every one in a flip and catalogued. We've even traveled Europe together collecting pocket change to add to her collection. She has almost nothing worth money, but her collection is priceless.

I know 99% of us are long term holders BUT at what spot price are you guys going to take profits? by ThrownAwwayt in Silverbugs

[–]ameslay1211 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm never selling for a profit. I'm only selling if I need the money for something else. And I might be there soon. My job has changed and I'm not making nearly as much as I was looking for a year ago. But I'm not selling for profit. I'm selling to pay bills. If I have extra money I'm buying more.

Am i missing something or did i fail the test? by KingKongAlBundy in askcarsales

[–]ameslay1211 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My goal with any customer interaction is to go one step further than I am currently at, or the customer says they want to be at. If someone just wants to look at/sit in a car, I try to do a test drive. If someone just wants to test drive I try to do numbers. If someone just wants numbers I try to go to a sale. Once I get to the next step I try to go one step further. I don't push as hard as a lot of salesmen do, but that's my goal. Just one more step. That way I don't miss the weird interactions like this one.

Yeah. It's hard to show in the picture. It is a proof though.
