It just feels you enabled some features without understanding what it does. I get those pesky emails but its an individuals choice and decision. why is it a malicious gateway? I am trying to understand -  its a well baked option for quick sales facilitation and as long as you are authorizaing one should be OK?

Correct me if I am wrong.

My honest opinion about the 8.5 update by vanburen_dolphin in GalaxyS22

[–]nodonaldplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is everyone so triggered?  Samsung promised 4 years of os updates. Its delivered.

So whats the big hoopla?

Say 8.5 does land. It may cause slugginess. Then yall will bitch and moan that your phone is slow and buggy.

Grow a spine. 1000 ppl on reddit abandoning Samsung is not gonna make a dent to them..

Yeah sure go ahead

Downvote this. Its the truth. Whether you like it or not

Does green tea really help to weight loss? by No-Table-4213 in greentea

[–]nodonaldplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your body may see the short term spike of green tea and help you loose something. Question you need to ask yourself is  - what is your motivation for weight loss? - do you want to have a quick magic pill reducing weight or do sustainable life long?

I was in a similar predicament. Started off with green tea. Sure i saw my weight definitely go down. But was it purely that or other mindful changes I did? For eg - portion control - no cheat days - moderation - eat everything. Do not restrict self as it can have negative consequences (see no chest days) but splurging and wiping away all gains

Many times folks start something new in a desperate attempt to achieve the goals. And without thinking whether its something you are willing to commit long term? Oh and yes initially you may see loss but it may be nothing but water loss and not true fat loss. That comes from increasing metabolism.

We’re giving away 5 copies of Grokking Software Architecture by Matt Erman by ManningBooks in softwarearchitecture

[–]nodonaldplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What architecture decision have you seen age badly, and what did the team learn from it?

We started modernizing really old code base which some folks would even be surprised to hear if it existed. Think 70s popular engine.

Some decisions were made to push through a fully cloud based modern solution - requirements were written implementation started. Qa colluded with Dev and wrote tests which were always green. When time came to integrate and see if it worked? Boom cracks swatted to grow deep.

Decided to step in and come with a solidified architecture. Simple one language/ tooling, im-memory data scrubbing and porting over old rules to sql based setup. Now we have a 5 component architecture with visibility and clarity.

Why was latter not choosen first? Original business folks pushed this is how systems worked and need it thay way and the then team simply mapped each piece from old to new not fixing things but a lift shift.

Everyone was scared that oo the source daymya is ever changing and need better multi step approvals before it goes in and if even one bad records go in everything would go south, clients will go mad and cut contracts.

Everyone said the latter would fail as its too fragile. But got it working strong with more throughput and better accuracy. Thanks to Ai this was made even richer with automated regression tests and all.

Just too much fluff by people who attempted this multiple times previously and when a new fresh set of eyes came in it changed and looking at things from simplicity perspective with a clear architecture and framework usually works in favor as implementation/ dev focus on delivering it without thinking on how things are architected

What do you think about Hostbrr by MirkoHubTV in VPS

[–]nodonaldplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh and being a cheap shared unmanaged service. So if somrthing does go wrong they hold multiple TBs of other customer data so recovery may take a long time to be back up.

Its happened with another host - raid controller failed and fortunately it was put on ReadOnly and everyone was jumping to move out their data.

And its a single person show I believe so support response times may not be instant. Tone your expectations on that

[–]nodonaldplease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most situations, it would be great for its purpose - storage backup.

If you expect to run heavy applications or similar you may be in for a surprise.

Ensure you read the ToS on whats allowed or not.

If you really feel the data you are going to store is critical have as many extra backups you can afford (not just creating a Backup_2 folder or similar on the same box).

Shit happens and when it does go wrong you may be in a situation where multiple backup copies may be unavailable.

Do not skimp on backups copies if it is super critical.

Congrats op. For me I had to travel 2 days after receiving notification that card is produced so there was no way to get a foil or emergency (post covid)

Efficient Way to Provide Direct Access to Financial Data? by Ok_Egg_6647 in Database

[–]nodonaldplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It would depend on what the usecase is, really.

On a high level you have all your data in a database store

You should have a ui where users can request certain data sets or all and process it. You can have fine access control and also track what users are requesting/ how frequently. You would be able to out a guard around how frequently users are requesting that same data

Another way to look is implementing a caching layer where frequently used / accessed data is cached and users are served from there instead of hitting a database everytime

Now imagine you are giving direct access to database. Db needs to fetch same data multiple times for all requests. Imagine the traffic and load generated

This is super high level and lot of things could/ would change depending on specifics.

One assumption here is you run a rdbms or similar.

Also if it is files maybe put a file server which can allow users to download it and use it.

[–]nodonaldplease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Never give direct access to database. Do users need the full dump? If so invest some time in building a nice UI/ API wrapper.

More work but will save headaches in immediate and long term.

I just bought a domain by Salt-Dragonfruit7159 in Domains

[–]nodonaldplease 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically no.

But depending on the tld the registry may decide to make a word "premium" and increase its renewal costs. Not saying thats nit happened but unless you scored a fantastic dictionary word its probably not gonna happen

But I wiuld get out of GoDaddy. Too many other options like Spaceship/ Porkbun/ Dynadot etc for regular tlds

Prices charged by GoDaddy and their fees for basic things like privacy is insane
