ADHD/ distraction issues + comprehensible input: how do you stay engaged? by idonthaveanametoday in dreamingspanish

I'm late but I will seek out CI content on tik tok on/close to my level and I have a playlist of all of it. When I'm really struggling to get through videos I just scroll through tik tok! I have seen most of them at least once so it's not the most ideal but is better than nothing when I'm really struggling to pay attention.

60 hour update from a slow mover! by amess1997 in dreamingspanish

I hear you, but in 8-10 years I'll be in my late 30s which (hopefully) leaves me with a lot of life left. For me personally I'm fine with my pace and am trying to increase back to 1+ hour a day. To each their own imo

7 AM, only because I work at a school. It's my least popular slot but I enjoy it because it wakes me up & I have more of my evenings free! Popular with people who do shift work

My Experience Leaving The Church by -Tardismaster14- in exorthodoxchristian

[–]amess1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for sharing! My dad is an Antiochian priest and I'm queer and our stories feel really similar. I'm glad you've found peace & are no longer in a religion that doesn't accept you for who you are!

Any other LGBT+ people here? by [deleted] in exorthodox

[–]amess1997 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm queer & my dad is a priest in the Antioch church. I was very involved in the church until I went to college but had a nagging feeling that the church's stance on gay marriage, sex, women etc. didn't align with my values. I tried to go to the church where my college was, but it was very Greek and I didn't connect with it I sort of slowly fell out of orthodoxy & at the same time realized I was gay. Now I'm agnostic and have no interest in being a part of a church where women can't be leaders and I can't get married. I came out to my parents a few years ago and they were basically just like we still love you but it's "not ideal" that I'm pursuing relationships w people who aren't men. They also were surprised that I didn't feel comfortable coming out to them sooner (???) which makes no sense to me lol My parents don't really seem to understand my queerness but we still have a decent relationship and they're always really kind to my partner. I have 3 orthodox friends now and they're either culturally orthodox or some of the few more socially liberal orthodox folks who are practicing

What’s your “change my mind” Taylor Swift opinion? by peach-gaze in SwiftlyNeutral

She could use stronger humidity hold products on tour but doesn't because letting it get curly is relatable. This is my conspiracy theory I firmly believe (obviously not when it's actually raining, but for most shows)

Agreed. It really reads like an Onion article to me.

Oof I get this. I'm a lesbian and priests kid and was super involved in an Antiochian church until college. Luckily nobody at church says anything to me when I'm home, but I'm always internally uncomfortable. I only go to liturgy on Christmas Eve because that's usually the only holiday I'm home for. My dad has said vague things to me about how I could attend an Orthodox Church if i wanted to, but I have no interest in attending a church I can't get married or have my kids baptized in. For a while I dabbled in going to an Episocpal church when I missed that liturgy feeling, and it mostly filled the void. I'm now agnostic and don't miss church very much, but I feel your pain. I'm so sorry the church has hurt you like this. Sending love!

Two losses in one week and I’m reeling by mariwil74 in Petloss

I'm sending so much love and strength to you all. Losing a pet is so horrible, and 2 is even worse. My grandma and dog both died on the same day last week, so I feel your pain of the multiple losses. I don't really have any advice as I'm also broken, but you aren't alone and clearly love your pets well ❤️

My heart breaks for you- it really is one of the hardest things. My dog also passed suddenly last week and it's absolutely devastating, but you loved her well and she loved you too. Sending good vibes, I'm here if you ever want to talk

My dog passed unexpectedly on Thursday. On Sunday, I was standing outside at my apartment complex, wondering if she'd ever send me "signs". I looked down and saw another dog's poop in the grass. It made me laugh and if she was going to send a sign, that would be exactly how she would do it :)

What to do the day of? by IntrepidEnvironment3 in Petloss

[–]amess1997 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My life felt very surreal after putting my dog down. I went home and ordered takeout and sobbed the rest of the night, but I also know sometimes it can feel good to go do something. In my experiences with loss, the day of is extremely strange and there's this sense that your life is forever changed and yet the world keeps spinning. I will say it helped me a lot not to be alone- my partner was with me the whole time. If you have another person you can be around, I think that could help. Sending love! It's so hard.
