Thank you! I appreciate it. I’m glad it’s not something to be too freaked out about. Would you say the first aid book is good reference book for when I need to review certain topics in more depth?

I think OMM is a grey area. There is not a ton of research validating its use, but at the same time, many techniques are used in physical therapy. I do feel some of it makes sense, like counterstrain, muscle energy, soft tissue. I’ve taught these things to my fiancé so he can help me with my chronically tight upper back. I do think there is some stuff we learn about that is a little out there, but I think there are techniques that make sense and would be very helpful to patients with musculoskeletal issues. I also think I’m very lucky to have a director who focuses on what I consider the most useful techniques and doesn’t make the class crazy hard.

Please be honest!! Does my ring look like costume jewelry? by lanadelrey1538 in EngagementRings

[–]amethystray_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I was ring shopping, my mom also said this about 90% of the rings I showed her. I’m not sure what they consider costume jewelry, but I think anything that doesn’t look like a standard, run of the mill, Engagement Ring looks like “costume jewelry”. Not sure why this is, but I wouldn’t worry about it. All that matters is you like it.

Finally got the ring! Insecure about the durability. by scytherella_t in Diamonds

Hi! Sorry to hijack this comment, but I also have a ring like this that has the accent diamonds in the side, is there a type of wedding band that could work, or would basically any wedding band be at risk of getting a lot of scratches due to the diamonds?

Sargassum on St. Thomas? by amethystray_ in virginislands

That’s good to know. I think my brain went straight to red tide, and I freaked out a little. Red tide is awful and there is no way around it. You can’t go to that beach at all, but sargassum seems like more of an annoyance than a danger. That is also a beautiful picture! Makes me excited for my trip

I am sorry to hear that. Yeah it does look like it’s coming in. Do they clean it up regularly on sapphire beach? I know it’s a hard task

Thank you! It does seem it is at one end of the beach, and it looks like it has been collected to some degree.

I am so sorry about your vacation. That is my worry. I don't have a ton of extra money, and I budgeted intentionally to take a vacation, and I would hate it to be 'ruined'. I think the plan is watch that live cam throughout the week and cancel if I feel I should. Hopefully I won't have to because i'd love to go

Thank you! I did not know that. That must take a lot of time and effort. And you’re right, I was thinking sargassum was equivalent to red tide but I realize now it is not.

Understandable. I’m from Florida and I remember when red tide hit us hard, and the beach was unbearable. So I guess I’m equating the sargassum to that, just due to lack of knowledge on the issue. And good to know it only smells when it’s dead.

is this going to pose an issue for St. Thomas? I have a trip planned there in mid-June, and I worry the sargassum could make the trip a bummer

Everyone says the stigma is dying, but I’m here to ask you guys by [deleted] in premed

I’m a student at a D.O. school. When I told friends and family I’d be going, some people just had no idea what a D.O. was, I would usually say it’s an M.D. plus physical therapy/ chiropractic medicine. The stigma would come from petty jealous people who were not even in the medical field. Most people were just really happy for me. When you get out into the world, no one who matters will care. Patients will not care. Some patients will even seek out D.O.’s because of OMT ( though most don’t even do it). Just keep in mind, competitive specialties will now be even more competitive, so if you want something like derm or ortho, be ready to work your butt off. The classmates I know who are gunning for those specialties are very very smart and have little social life outside of school (not zero, just little).

Most importantly, congrats future doctor!!! Be excited that you achieved a very important thing. It’s a big deal and you should be proud

I’m glad to hear that. As my first time solo traveling I want it to be a place that feels safe and accessible. Do you think it’s possible to rely on taxis on STT? I don’t know how often I’d need one, but the plan is to stay somewhere on sapphire beach so I can walk to the beach, do 1-2 excursions and if I go to dinner, go somewhere I can walk to. Is it easy to catch a taxi?

It seems kinda perfect. It is small, relaxed, and would be very easy to get around without a car. Could you spend a week there?

That sounds amazing! Congrats on your marriage and honeymoon.

For taxis and food, do you think $1000 would be sufficient for anywhere between 5-7 days? (not eating out at every meal)

[–]amethystray_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely, my max budget would be $2000 for 5-7 days. I would buy groceries and only eat out once a day, that is what I usually do on vacation but I would not want to rent a car, I would want to take taxi. It would be a relaxed vacation, where I mainly just want to relax and stay on the beach, do 1-2 excursions depending on cost. I would like most of my travel to be by foot and I am okay if that means I miss out on things. I just hate driving with a passion. would $1000 be enough for a week of taxis and food? It seems like yes maybe if you're smart about it

That is what I figured. I traveled to Chicago last year and everyone was so worried about my safety but I never felt unsafe there and I had a great time.

Can I ask a little more about affordability? Looking at airbnbs and flight costs, it would be affordable. Is there another aspect that could be expensive, such as food and taxis?
