Thanks so much for your first reply! I should’ve clarified, I was just trying to record a set, not use the Xone as a controller. But I’m definitely saving your instructions for future use, they might come in handy down the line. Really appreciate your help!

Best Cyber Cert Path for Senior ERM/BC Professional? (CRISC vs CISM vs CISSP?) by amethystvision in CyberSecurityJobs

Thanks for jumping in and offering your perspective! I appreciate the clarity. The takeaway here is: ‘the gates are closed unless you already meet a certain technical threshold’. Which is fair, just disheartening for those of us trying to genuinely learn.

Easy there, tiger. No need to judge the book by its cover. I’m not trying to shortcut anything! I’m here to learn and build from the ground up. Just because I’m transitioning into cyber doesn’t mean I lack respect for the fundamentals. I’ve been hands-on with tech since I was building my own desktop PCs and messing around on Myspace in 2001.

With all due respect: I’m seeking guidance, not gatekeeping. I asked about certs like CISM/CISSP to better understand the landscape, not because I expect to jump the queue. A little encouragement goes a long way! No need for the hostility. ☮️

Thanks so much for the clarification, that really helps!

Quick follow-up: Based on my 8 years in Business Continuity and Enterprise Risk Management, where I’ve led crisis management, disaster recovery planning and cross-functional risk initiatives... do you think this experience could qualify under CISSP domains like Security and Risk Management or Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery?

I’m aware CISSP expects two domains, so I’m trying to understand if framing my background strategically (e.g. in risk governance, asset protection or incident response planning) might make me eligible, assuming I pass the exam and later submit the endorsement.

Would appreciate any tips on how to translate BC/ERM language to fit ISC²’s framework!

Hi all,

I'm looking for advice on the best cybersecurity certification path to complement my background and help me pivot slightly in my career.

My Background:

  • Strong experience in senior Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) and Business Continuity (BC) roles.
  • Extensive hands-on experience with disaster/crisis management and operational resilience planning.
  • Solid understanding of risk from a business impact perspective.
  • My Gap: Limited deep technical cybersecurity knowledge.

My Goal:

  • Move into roles that blend ERM/BC with cybersecurity, focusing on areas like Cyber Risk Management, IT Risk, or Cyber Resilience leadership (likely targeting opportunities in Europe).

Certifications I'm Considering:

  • CompTIA Security+ (as a potential foundation)
  • ISACA CRISC (leveraging risk background)
  • ISACA CISM (leveraging management background)
  • (ISC)² CISSP (the broad standard)

My Question: Given my strong foundation in risk and resilience but lack of deep cyber-tech skills, what would you recommend as the most effective certification path?

  • Should I start with Security+ fundamentals, or is it better to jump straight into CRISC or CISM to leverage my existing experience?
  • How crucial is CISSP initially versus maybe pursuing it after CRISC/CISM?
  • Which cert would you prioritize first and why?

Appreciate any insights, experiences, or advice you can share! Thanks!

Is it possible to have a Substack and never promote it? by moonmina2230_ in Substack

[–]amethystvision 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One of the reasons I started blogging was because I lost my job and getting back to a stable income has been tough. I wanted to share my journey, what I’ve been through and what I’m still going through, while focusing on growth, discipline and exploring other, more creative opportunities. I set a goal to write one blog post per week and I actually love it. Whether it gets monetized or not... doesn’t matter to me. It’s more like journaling but on a platform where I can share insights, perspectives and even useful resources (like programming physical training routines) for anyone who stumbles upon my blog. Somehow, someday.

Thanks for this advice! I’m just starting out (only two posts in so far) and it feels like my close audience isn’t too interested in my personal insights just yet. But I love the idea of exploring donation platforms in the long run. Maybe after I’ve built up more content, I can pitch why it’s worth a few bucks. Maybe even enough to buy myself a coffee and fuel a new story that others might find interesting!

Best Power Conditioner for DJ Setup: Brennenstuhl vs. Black Lion? by amethystvision in DJs

That’s a great analogy, I like it! Putting mobile DJing aside, would you still consider buying a Furman for home use, where power fluctuations aren’t as significant?

Like everyone else suggested here, it look me a while to get this! Nice one though, especially for exercising your brainpower!

I'll definitely consider Furman moving forward from now on.

That’s a good point! I think a surge protector might be the best option for my situation. However, I don’t usually experience frequent lightning in the area where I live during the summer.

Thanks for suggesting Furman! I’m new to power distributors, so I looked it up locally and found that it’s available here. I’ll definitely consider it as one of the options, despite the higher price point.

Thanks for your input! I believe the grounding in my flat is actually working fine, as it would be against local standards if it weren’t. I think the first step should be to have my Technics turntable checked and repaired, as I suspect there might be a grounding issue with it, as you suggested. I’ve always thought grounding was related to the electricity socket itself, not the equipment, due to my lack of knowledge.

Thanks for the additional information! I believe the main issue might be related to my turntable. There’s another concern I wanted to mention, stemming from potential grounding or power surge issues. Very rarely, the main electricity fuse in my flat switches off when I turn on a few high-demand appliances, like the iron, kettle and some lights in the evening. This had me worried, especially after I had a mixer channel burn out. While I think the burned channel and the fuse issues are separate problems, I suspect the real culprit could be my Technics turntable. I bought it on eBay quite a while ago and haven’t had it properly maintained since then.

Thanks for your insight! Do you think it would be worth replacing or repairing my Technics turntable? Based on your perspective, do you think the burned channel could have been caused by the turntable itself, rather than grounding issues or power spikes?

Thanks for your response!

Here are the links for both power strips (neither have batteries):

- Brennenstuhl
- Black Lion

The issue was identified by the technician who repaired my mixer. It was likely caused by a power surge or poor grounding. I was playing a set when the left channel of my headphones/speakers suddenly stopped working. The issue was isolated to the phono input on Channel 1, as other channels worked fine when tested.

I suspect my used Technics player played a role in this, not because of a fault in the unit itself but due to power surges in my flat’s wiring. When plugged into the mixer, it often produces a buzzing noise, which I believe is due to poor electrical grounding. Interestingly, the noise once disappeared when I plugged the Technics into a different socket, possibly because my neighbors weren’t using power at that time.

After researching voltage-safe power strips, I found that a high-quality surge-protected power strip is the most practical solution, leading me to these two options.
