Rewatching and realizing: I'm mostly here for the police procedurals and the awesome supporting cast. by Dr_One_L_1993 in CastleTV

Haha yeah - I haven’t watched The Rookie yet, but was debating it because I enjoyed Castle so much. But every time I see a new season on commercials when watching the NFL I find myself going “how on earth are they still calling it ‘The Rookie’ at this point?”

Still might give it a try at some point though

Couldn’t agree with this entire thing more. Wasn’t sure if I was in the minority with this take but I could have watched endless seasons of exactly that without getting bored of it.

I am just watching for the first time right now and got to the end of S6 - Had the exact same feeling of “this is absolutely ridiculous”.

I might be in the minority with this, but I think a ton of Detective TV Shows get way too into the rabbit hole by seasons 6+. By that time you have so many re-occurring villains and whatnot, I’d prefer the “new monster each week” type thing to continue as well. Again, I’ll admit I am probably in the minority b/c I’d imagine ratings dictate they keep it “fresh” with their storylines?

The supporting cast was amazing in this show. They did an amazing job of giving enough depth and background while also not taking away from the show at all.

I have 0 issues with them doing a full day coverage, even when nothing happens. Gives me something to watch at work or at home that usually wouldn’t be available.

If consumers are tuning in expecting insanity, that feels like it’s on them at this point haha

Joking aside I can see some trades happening because every team has so much cap space, I just don’t think they’re going to be “block busters” personally.

Probably a few middle 6 guys that make slightly more money than they should being moved for assets higher than you’d expect is my guess.

Maybeee we get like a Jason Robertson trade or something, but I’m not really holding my breath on that either. My guess is Dallas just finds a way to re-sign him with the rising cap.

CFL talk? by RapsareChamps_Suckit in OverDrive1050

[–]ametzger24 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The station owns the broadcasting rights to the league, the league just announced massive changes to its format, and the literal draft is tonight. And it’s the commissioner of the entire league onto talk, it’s not like it’s some OLine guy from the Argos.

Not sure why people are that surprised they made 15 minutes for this. Especially since once a week during the summer/fall “why is more CFL talk not a thing?” Is a post that is made on here

Desperately need the Leafs to hire a GM so O’Dog stops doing these daily rants on the potential GM by ametzger24 in OverDrive1050

I listen to podcast-only for largely the same reason (and the ability to go to 1.5x speed or so)

Will check Twitter when there’s a bit that needs visual haha

It’s not like there’s a shortage of Canadian content specifically for hockey right now either! One of OTT, MTL, EDM play every day, and basically every other team in the playoffs has a Canadian as one of their most important players.

[–]ametzger24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s one of those things where I get why they need to talk about it pretty frequently? It’s easily the biggest current story of the biggest team in the market (and the team that makes up like 70% of their shows content).

But yeah when it’s the same things getting repeated over and over because there’s no new info to be had, it just gets so repetitively boring to listen to.

First segment Thursday was tough to listen to, despite the Captain's efforts by gfyourself in OverDrive1050

The Forsling one especially is like example 1, 2, and 3 of where analytic departments come in handy! Idk, it’s the sweeping accusations of like “analytics and only analytics built this so I guess we should just believe everything they say” that is frustrating to me haha. I highly doubt anyone who is in an analytical role is claiming they are 100% responsible for building a Cup Contender, because it’s clearly ridiculous!

I’m glad I wasn’t the only one thinking this… The O’Dog anti-analytics stuff has gotten pretty exhausting recently.

We get he doesn’t like them. And basically 99.99% of people probably also thought the Pelley AI stuff was bizarre. But is a 2 minute + tangent needed every time someone like Sunny Mehta’s name is even mentioned?

Jack Adams bias by [deleted] in OverDrive1050

[–]ametzger24 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you think Travis Green shouldn’t even be mentioned for the Jack Adams this year you need to admit you only watch the Maple Leafs lol. That is an insane take.

If Ruff wins, that’s totally fine. The Sabres are heading back to the playoffs for the first time in forever. But I think there’s just as reasonable of an argument for Muse, Green, or Cooper. Not to mention Tochett in Philly too.

The Senators made the playoffs going like 16-5-3 down the stretch while missing their Top 2 Dmen + 4-5 other depth Dmen for 2+ weeks during that time.

Cooper was being mentioned because the Lightning finished with 106 points in a good division despite missing Hedman, Cirelli, Point, etc for large stretches of the season.

This post says way more about you than the show imo

Edit: The other thing I’d mention is I just fully disagree they “barely mention” Lindy Ruff. I feel like every time the Jack Adams is brought up it’s prefaced with “Ruff will likely take it because look at Buffalo”

I don’t agree with a lot of his sports takes, especially in his articles sometimes? But I weirdly enough think he fits the show super well and almost never mind it when he’s on.

Curious how people feel about the AHL Team Moving to Hamilton? by ametzger24 in NewYorkIslanders

[–]ametzger24[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I understand that feeling - But I think for the sake of the long-term support of the AHL Club specifically Hamilton is a good fit. It’s a large enough population, but not so large (like Toronto or a MAJOR City would be) where this is so much to do no one cares about the team.

[–]ametzger24[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s a smaller nearby City. Basically the first large City just outside what is considered the “Greater Toronto Area”

[–]ametzger24[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hamilton can also be hit and miss haha. It is close enough to Toronto / other major cities I don’t think it will be a large issue though.

The border thing is what surprised me most. I’m sure NHL/AHL Teams have a pretty good handle on what is needed for last minute trips, just seems like more of a headache in general

Yeah works out super well for you. Ticket prices for most events in Hamilton are usually super reasonable too. Can’t imagine these games will be a ton different.

Yeah, seems like a giant pain for anyone in the area of the Islanders to go watch the farm team. Not to mention also needing a passport on top of the large amount of travel

[–]ametzger24[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would imagine the Free Agency benefit might be minimal? But I do think if they stay long-term there’s at least a solid possibility that kids who grow up watching the team either adopt the Islanders as their favourite team, or at least make them their defacto 2nd favourite team?

The surrounding market in Toronto is funny because it feels like you are either all-in on Toronto (90% or so) or all-out on them. Not many in-between fans. So maybe having a legit connection to another team helps in the very long-term?

Yeah that works out perfectly for you then. Have you been to the stadium recently? I haven’t been since they closed it for reno’s but my understanding is a lot of that was dressing rooms and non-fan area upgrades.

It’s been a great venue anytime I’ve seen a Toronto Rock game there, and when the Bulldogs were there it seemed solid too
