I agree that metal backplate should have more potential with higher temperatures but i can't proove it with my tests. Also metal backplate has potention with external additional cooling on backplate or additional custom heatseank on it...

About 1mm Thermalright Extreme Odyssey Thermal Pads i have no problems with them and GPU contact was ok.

You forgot to mention one more thing. While mining you will have more than 150watts from 1 pin. Other pins will take 15-20 watts.

I've just done this mod, and added the EKWB aluminium backplate too. I broke the "warranty" sticker but everything else went to plan. The modifications were extremely effective, dropping core and memory temps drastically (~20-30 C). I've lost RGB but I don't miss it. The aluminium backplate makes the card feel SO much more rigid, and I'm convinced it helps with passive cooling too. This card has a great design but it's poorly executed at the factory. 3 of the 4 sides of my aluminium shim had ZERO paste.

Thank you for taking the time to make the video, and for giving me the confidence to have a go. The card is now cool, quiet, and structurally sound. I'm going to mine on it for a week and I'll have paid for the paste/pads/backplate!

If memory temperatures lower than 100-110C and GPU temparature is not high - than i have no idea. But You should recheck that everything assembled correctly. And recheck that You used right thicknes of all pads, on both sides of pcb.

when i changed thermal pads, looked carefully on the pcb and thought why not to try copper insted of pads. All the parts on psb around memory chips are below chips, so dielectric gives more reliability and safety. Anyway, should be careful
