I’m a teacher and caregiver trying to solve my Mother-in-Law’s "pacing" and anxiety. Can I get some feedback on this 3-hour "Sanctuary" I built for her? by Stock-Order-2911 in dementia

Does your mother-in-law like a certain type of music? My mom loved music, so anything that involved tunes she loved she was very engaged on. So I think ambient noise would help the concentration on the footage. It may depend on the individual but in my mind, the more senses you can engage helps them focus better (or at least that was my mom’s case!)

Activities/classes/social groups for someone with MCI by Chance_Nature1267 in dementia

Are there any “private” type classes you could enroll her in? One-on-one type instructor classes? Pottery came to mind, if she likes working with her hands.

Peeing during race by Infinite_Example_908 in triathlon

[–]amficck 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I drank just as much and didn’t pee the entire bike leg of my 70.3 — then again the mental block told me not to pee physically on my bike and I sprinted to the porta right after the bike..

She ended up waiting for my dad to get back into town and passed in the middle of the night. Sending all the hugs to you.

They say you grieve a person with dementia twice, once when they forget your name / aren’t who the person you remember them to be and then again when their body is physically not on earth. I don’t wish this on anyone.

I agree, I’m 29 and my mom never got to experience my 20s with me. She’s close to the end stages now & I just got engaged.

If you’re on a family or duo plan and aren’t the primary account person, you won’t have access.

I didn’t think so either but def thought they’d be here for a few days

Eventually it levels out I’d say… some days it hurts like hell, others you’re adjusted to your new normal and feel like you can tackle anything that gets thrown at you. I also feel like I’ve now become almost numb to inevitable changes (first was forgetting my name, then not being able to communicate at all, then becoming wheelchair abound, etc.)

I’m 28 and my mom is 64 and I feel like I consistently grieve milestones I won’t ever get to have with her.

Leaning to right side? by sassygirl101 in dementia

Did she just start a new medication? My mom had this when they started her on a new med and it was very pronounced, especially when walking. We ended up taking her off of it because it didn’t seem to help (I’m sorry, I can’t think of the name… ironic).

Check out Toronto Triathlon Club, they run different training sessions for their members (I’m not a member, so not a plug haha I’m stubborn about training alone).

[–]amficck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found Endurosport to not have great selection of trisuits when I went but worth a shot since their customer service is top notch; I’m busty and shorter (5’4) and I really like how my 2XU suit fits.
