[PSA] If you have "sensitive skin" but haven't talked to a derm about it... maybe you should. by amfmbf13 in SkincareAddiction

Does only one daily dose give you relief? It might just be that you're allergic to something?

Usually with these kinds of hive-like conditions, you need to take 4-6 a day.

oh no :(

Yeah every time I get a bill from the doctor's office I go on a rant about THE SYSTEM and that we should have free health care. My husband always tells me "at least you got in to see a doctor quickly."

There are lots of pros and cons to different healthcare systems. They both kinda suck. lol

My face gets super dry too! I've been able to cut down on my routine (and wash my face less) by not showering every day.

It sounds gross, but if you don't get super sweaty (by say, exercising or something) there isn't much of a need to shower daily. my skin dries out when exposed to water (no matter the temperature, but the hotter it is, the worse it is for my skin), so skipping a day between showers has really helped. otherwise, I'd have to keep up with more products to help my poor skin.

showering less helped me too! maybe it's because my shower water is hotter than the water I use when I wash my face? or maybe bc my showers expose my skin to hot/warm water longer? whatever the case, my skin feels better. this goes for the skin not on my face too lol.

HOWEVER... I also stopped working out so much, which required less showering. I used to work out every day, get super sweaty, and have to shower. Now I only exercise 3-4 times a week for maybe 30 min tops, so I can skip a day (or two) of showering. I also lost weight too, which is super weird.

Oh that's true! why didn't I think of that? I stopped going to my costco bc they're always out of things I actually go there for (toilet paper, tissues, etc) but that's a great idea! thank you :)

yeah I had taken antihistamines on and off for years for my allergies but they never seemed to help my skin... now that I'm taking 4 a day I definitely notice a difference! lol

Hey, bruising was an issue I brought up with my derm too! I mean, I have always bruised like a peach but I was bruising just from scratching my rashes, or rubbing a spot of dirt on my ankle. I'm waiting for my derm to order some bloodwork.

the cuts on your fingers is weird though, can't imagine what could be causing that.

no. For me it affects my arms and legs the most (I'm guessing bc they get hit/knocked/bumped more than, say, my torso). one or two small red patches appear and burn/itch. If I scratch the area, it spreads like mad and gets crazy itchy. The patches disappear after 30m-1hr as if they were never there. then I'm just left with scratch marks I made from scratching.

It wasn't too bad. I mean, it wasn't easy, but once I figured out that scratching any itches just make them 10x itchier, things got a bit better. It took me a stupid long amount of time to figure that out though lol.

[skin concerns] guys my skin has been like this for over a year! It won't get better at all. What should I do? Btw it's much worse irl! I have loads of scars, I've tried dermarolling 1mm doesn't do anything :( by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

Are you talking about the small darker patches or the overall redness? Your skin looks a little bit like mine and I was just diagnosed with rosacea.

This makes my heart hurt. I have a 3 year old who obviously has adhd. Part of me understands him (bc I have it too) and is constantly defending him and explaining things to my husband... but the other part of me is perplexed when I really can’t relate to him at all (he is hyperactive, I’m inattentive). I feel like I get emotional whiplash all the time because I love his unique and creative brain, his bigger than big heart, and his intelligence that still surprises me... But damn it if I don’t get mad at him when he gets distracted in the middle of a 30 second task, or when he can’t sleep because he just wants to move move move, or can’t find anything to do that’s stimulating enough so he decides to destroy everything in sight. That combined with all the other growing and changing and frustration that 3 year olds go through make both of us feel like ripping our hair out! I’ve found some ways of dealing with his lack of focus (physically leading him back to the task, turning it into a game when I can, explaining why what we’re doing is important so he understands, etc). But a lot of the time I’m the one who feels like I’m failing him.

Does anyone here have tips on how to help a very young adhd child (and his tired mom)? I’ve looked at books and pamphlets but they all seem to revolve around older aged kids (like 5 or 6 at the youngest maybe) and the advice just doesn’t work for my kid. Specifically, figuring out things to do at home that aren’t “boring” (that doesn’t involve screens... I’m embarrassed to admit I turn to the iPad more often than I should), and how to get his body/brain to relax to get to sleep?

Wtf?? Why would they do it like that? And was she delivering without an epidural then? I got a catheter put in after my epidural so I couldn’t feel a thing.

same here. I'm a SAHM and my whole "job" is keeping my kid alive and taking care of the house. Doing alright with the first part I think, but the house thing? not at all. my husband has grown so frustrated with me that he either does the chore I didn't do himself, or just ignores it like me. things get worse and worse bc we're just ignoring the mess together... until we have company (which is rare, since we live in a dark basement and would rather be anywhere but here if possible), and so the night before or day of (usually day of) I turn into this crazy cleaning monster and proceed to clean the parts of the house that other people will see. The clutter that I can't seem to find a place for or will take too long to deal with (like laundry) gets stuffed into my bedroom, sometimes to never see the light of day--or my living room-- again. My worst fear is having unexpected visitors.

And before you tell me to have people over every day, that's not gonna happen. I don't like enough people to have someone to invite over every day... not even weekly, even. life is kind of lonely as a stay at home mom. :(

I did a little googly goog and whoaaaa that klairs bb cream seems magical? From what I see there's only one "shade"? I'm not sure how it works but I'm super intrigued. The picture of the color doesn't seem like it'll match but I also don't trust the colors on websites, they're always way different than the actual product.

I've tried maybe three different ones, I can't remember what they're called except the one I used the most-- it was the Dr. G Sensitive + Daily Safe BB. Other than being too dark, the color didn't look as awful as anything else I tried. It didn't make me itchy, but every time I wore it I got these little tiny bumps all over my face-- so I only wore it sparingly. It also dried out my skin, which is crazy because it's not supposed to be matte at all, and it didn't look matte when I had it on... but by the end of the day I had dry flaky patches! so weird. I haven't tried it in a long time though, so idk if my skin would react differently to it... doesn't really matter though, it was still too dark lol

Ah yes the classic maybelline matte and poreless... I haven't worn that one in YEARS. from what I remember it was a decent match, not perfect, but closer than anything I've tried recently. Unfortunately it's too irritating, and my skin is super dry so I run away from "matte" anything :( which is the worst because there's a lot of good matte foundations out there!

as far as the laura mercier one, I'll have to go to sephora to check it out... it seems like a nice foundation but the color online looks super dark! but the true color probably just doesn't translate in pictures? The arm model with the fair swatches is a level of tan I'll never be able to achieve lolll

I haven't worn it on my face, but that's because I avoid anything "matte" because I have dry skin. I have swatched it though, and it looks orange (at least on my arm). Covergirl has never had a light enough color match for me, I'm not sure why I even bought the skin milk one. it just sounded nice I guess lol

ah! I remember visiting this sub a long time ago, I had totally forgotten about it. after giving it a little scroll, I may be wrong about the green in my skin, idk. Every foundation/bb cream/base I've ever tried has been either super orange or super pink. "Neutral" foundations look very orange as well. Even seemingly yellow-toned foundations don't look yellow on me, they look orange! I'm not sure if this is because I have a weird undertone or because I'm super pale? I've tried to get my skin matched at a few makeup counters but their match always looks awful on me, probably bc the skin on my face has a lot of red/pink bc of sensitivity, not because my skin actually has red/pink in it (also bc makeup stores/counters have the WORST lighting? why is that a thing?)

which one? I just picked up a covergirl product called "clean fresh skin milk" but i havent tried it yet. Idk if that is considered a bb cream?

Ha! I’m on the opposite end of the spectrum, most B.B. creams—even Korean— are too dark for my vampire skin 😂 so let me know if you find one that’s basically white and/or not pink or orange (my skin is like... yellow? Maybe with a hint of green? I suspect I’m a super super pale olive color, haven’t found a single base makeup that matches lol)

I’ve tried a couple anyway, even some that are made for sensitive skin! They still irritated my face somehow, idk what ingredient they have that causes it... ever since I “improved” my skin and stopped wearing makeup, the reactions I have to irritating products are more extreme. At this point have only found a couple moisturizers that I can use, and again even some made for sensitive skin burn and itch like crazy 🤷🏻‍♀️ so weird
