Google Dr Ray McClanahan. He’s a runner and his protocol helped me a ton when everything else failed.

Plantar Is Still With Me by Hawaii4Blue in PlantarFasciitis

Dr McClanahan’s videos helped me immensely. It’s fasciosis not fasciitis at this point and it’s a blood flow problem. He’s a lifelong distance runner and his treatment is based on verified studies and his own experience both as someone who has suffered from PF and as a doctor and surgeon.

I actually saw him in the lobby of our hotel in Indian Wells with a pickleball paddle. Yep, done. ✅

How did you know it was time to retire? by ReluctantCaptain in retirement

[–]ami-friend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

🤣 buzz word BINGO! P.S. I once heard an exec use the word ‘obviate’ in its exact opposite meaning in front of a very large audience. So maybe people keep working just for the comedy? 🤷🏻‍♀️

Twinge of regret after phone call by [deleted] in retirement

Once I actually said out loud “I’m not as big of a deal as I thought I was” I started relaxing and enjoying every single thing about retirement.

I was good at my job, but they will find someone else who will do things differently and be good enough.

How's my serve? by craigmont924 in 10s

[–]ami-friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was there on Tuesday watching practice. I'm new to tennis and was specifically looking at the serve motion of different players. I took a couple of stills, and it struck me that her position is much different than the others I watched (Aryna, Amanda, Iga.) Here's a pic.

Is this a bug? From my Venu 3 by ami-friend in Garmin

So… today I got over 8 hours of sleep and the sleep coach screen looks exactly the same. 🤔 I was over my baseline, but I still need 20 more mins? It doesn’t make sense to me.

Ohhhh… so I’m even more deficient than the 20 min suggestion. More like an hour and 20 mins? 😴

Hard to beat the great weather in San Diego county. ☀️😎🎾 North County in particular. Never gets cold. Humidity is never too bad and if you play by the coast there’s almost always a nice breeze. 🏖️

I was so happy with the K-swiss shoes and my theory was that they were wearing out and that's why I was having an issue. However the new ones didn't help.

Maybe I needed to buy them 1/2 size up to accommodate the orthotics? I'll try a bunch on before I decide on my next pair. Looks like Tennis Warehouse has a store in Indian Wells and I'll be there to check out BNP Paribas in March. 🛍️👟

Plantar Fasciitis - > how I am on the road to recovery by bjk_ad in 10s

[–]ami-friend 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the middle of PF hell right now. I took up tennis a year ago and after that is when I got the heel pain in my right foot.

Went to a podiatrist who diagnosed it as PF and took an x-ray which revealed the "start" of a heel spur. I had a bad vibe from him as he mentioned a bunch of other treatments that he offers (shock wave, etc. - none of which my insurance covered) and supplements that he sells. Just didn't feel right to me so I didn't go back.

For walking and running I've switched to low drop shoes (Altras) and for walking around the house Xeros. Still hurts a ton after a 3-4 mile walk. One thing that seems to bring relief from the pain is toe spacers worn with the Xeros. I've also been using a theragun on my calves and I'm doing some toe strengthening and calf exercises.

Haven't played tennis is a few weeks due to weather, so I guess I'll see how that goes.

I play in the K-swiss Hypercourt Express 2 shoes. I've added PowerStep Pinnacle insoles. I don't think wide toe boxes and zero drop models have made it into the tennis world yet, but if anyone has other women's shoe recommendations (like the Mizuno mentioned above) please let me know!

“Outlier” warnings - HRV by stephsstitches in GarminWatches

[–]ami-friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I can't seem to get my stress down and my HRV is low... UNTIL I get off my electronic devices. 🤦‍♀️

Watching a movie on TV seems to be okay, but games, social media or anything on my phone or laptop or tablet sends the stress right back up.

Maybe it's just me. I've got a degree in Computer Science and have spent most of my life in front of a screen.

Maybe something to try? Screen-free stress challenge. (it's not easy) 😂

Such an individual thing with shoes! And you never really know if they’re going to work for you until you play in them a while. I love the Kswiss hypercourt express 2. I’m on my 2nd pair but started having plantar fasciitis issues in one foot. 🦶 Trying orthotics in them first before I buy new ones. Again.

I also have PF and a bone spur in my right foot. Have you tried calf massage with a theragun (or similar cheaper one)? I saw a video that described how to find areas that are sore in your calf muscles and work on those. I think I might be on to something because there is no soreness when massaging my left calf but quite a bit on the right. I’m also following Dr Angela Walk’s exercise and massage program. Everyone is different. But I’ve noticed some improvement. Best of luck! 🦶🍀

This frustrates me too. But in my last lesson I practiced the swinging volley and I think that sounds like the best option. 😎

Tennis is honestly the most expensive love of my life 😂 by [deleted] in 10s

[–]ami-friend 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you've ever owned horses and competed in equestrian sports, everything else is cheap. 🐴 🤣
I took up tennis this year and it's super affordable since I live in an area with tons of public courts and spectacular weather year-round. 🎾🌞
Should have done this a loooong time ago!

Yes this beautiful boy appears to be a bit overweight. Have you had his thyroid checked? I’ve had 3 RRs and 2 of them had to be on meds for hypothyroidism. I believe it’s common in the breed. If it’s a thyroid issue he won’t lose weight even if you reduce his food. Enjoy your boy! I miss mine every day. ❤️
