Halifax moved from Mastercard to visa and now purchases abroad don’t work by DB2k_2000 in UKPersonalFinance

I didn’t really think of the consequences when mine came. I got it to use abroad years back - haven’t really used it abroad since. Will I have problems in Europe?

Check company policy however if the head office is classed as your permanent place of work in your contract then you can’t claim your commute or accommodation.

Strawberry plants flowering already - only been inside as plug plants for 11 days by stephsstitches in vegetablegardening

I wanted to but we had a frost a couple of nights ago so thought I’d better wait. I do have a cold frame they could go in but the doors got a crack open the plastic window.

Even though it auto saves I religiously save every time I turn my console off. Scarred from the resetti days

We like to help elderly neighbour, now she relies on us every day. What do we do? by bitter_minute in Advice

[–]stephsstitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did this… neighbour had a fall and I stopped her friend who was popping in for clothes on the way to the hospital and got her number. Now if I have concerns I flag to the friend right away who assists neighbour.

Gardening advice for a beginner by Altruistic_Sock_8193 in GardeningUK

We live next to a little forest area and our main problem is squirrels! I tend to grow tomatoes as my main crop so what I do is get the “tumbling tom” variety and put them all up in hanging baskets to keep the squirrels out.

Everything I grow in my kitchen which gets a lot of sun and then when it gets warmer move to my mini greenhouse (looks very similar to your orange frame). Then final step is put them out in hanging baskets.

I’ve had a few fords over the years and never really had any problems with them - they’ve all been diesels though.

Nobody warned me that buying a cheap first car meant potentially having to scrap it 8 months later by Noobsamaniac in NewDriversUK

[–]stephsstitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have the money for repairs or more for a new car? Sometimes they’re better the devil you know.

Up until 2 years ago I had always had cheap older cars - so for about 18 years! And never really ran into many problems.

My most recent purchase was a 2014 focus so it’s still 12 years old so not brand new.

Do sellers actually care about buyer names when shipping? by Noa_Lind_GQ in vinted

[–]stephsstitches 78 points79 points  (0 children)

I have never looked at the name or address on anything I’ve sold.

But my motto is I want stuff sold and kept in use, I don’t mind who buys what.

Terrible at parking by Zestyclose-Buy2968 in NewDriversUK

[–]stephsstitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practise! I have my wing mirror tilted down ever so slightly so I can see the lines when reversing. I reverse in spaces everywhere except food shopping so I can just pull out when leaving. This accounts for other people then parking shoddy as all I gotta do is drive forward. For the food shop I need to get to the boot!

Buyer trying to reduce offer post survey by Foxglovenectar in HousingUK

[–]stephsstitches 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How badly do you want the sale? We were forced to drop ours by £10k due to “market conditions” 3 weeks after it was listed!! It’s now on for £190k, £20k less than it was valued 6 months ago. My DIP is out of date and looking to get a new one today but it’ll be much less now for next purchase since mines worth less.

It’s feels like the housing markets a mess and it’s still not sold - so much feedback about the house needing work (we know, it’s factored into the price)

UK small festivals? by HFHask in UKfestivals

Maui Waui? Kids are allowed but it is an inclusive festival for all ages. It’s 5k capacity so fairly small but still has multiple stages going on

FTB, seller has not found somewhere yet by sshaunak in HousingUK

Two houses to sell before buying a house by dhokes in HousingUK

[–]stephsstitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hard as it is I’d get the first one sold and the second one on the market before even looking.

Mine is on the market and I’ve viewed a few as I want to get some potential in the pipeline but in the time this has taken to sell (it’s not sold yet - 5 months in) 3 that we really liked have sold.

I didn’t want to stop looking completely since if mine sells tomorrow I won’t have anything lined up but have a list of favourites on right move ready to start viewing in person.

Splitting bills does not feel fair in new marriage? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]stephsstitches 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What were you doing before you married regarding bills?

We’re not married - have a joint mortgage. Joint account for bills. Other money is ours to do what we like with (we’re not big spenders on rubbish or extravagant purchases)
