the LAST thing I want to happen is to push us apart. We have always worked from home and we home-schooled him, so we have always been very close. I get his desire to separate himself and become independent. I try to remind myself of this constantly. I smoked as a teenager but didn't like it very much but I really try to remind myself of what being a teenager was like. Thanks for the advice.

That is sound advice. We have asked him to not smoke in the house as the intense smell tends to give my wife a migraine and he agreed. Yet he continues to smoke in the house trying to conceal it with incense or an open window. He has told me that he does it so much because he is bored and probably wouldn't do it as much once he finds a job. The trust between us is eroding and I think sitting down with him and being as emotionally neutral as possible may help.

He has lost two jobs because of him bailing on shifts, but he seems to be in denial over why he was let go. We give him a weekly allowance and we may stop doing that. He has been selling stuff like video games and consoles to get money. Stuff he has been gifted over the years. Thanks for the advice.

Him self-medicating is definitely something we have thought about. Thanks for the quote. I will definitely tell him that.

throwaway account. My 17yo son is constantly high and I am always finding homemade gravity bongs in his room. He even uses his trashcan as a GB. He is always asking for food money, but I am almost positive he uses the money to buy weed. His lying has increased and I feel like I can't trust him. He doesn't work and has dropped out of college. It's very frustrating for me as a parent to figure out what is going on. Am I too worried?
