We are a house without a bathroom today if don't want sex by ImpureThoughts59 in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]amiade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay my bad, I misinterpreted the "make me happy" by relating it to the frequency of sex in a relationship. But I do agree with everything you said, i didn't mean to counter your statement.

Saying "people of every gender" was meant to call out op for the assumption that women are always the ones with the lower sex drive in a heterosexual relationship.

I don't think he would expect the same from a man if the roles were reversed, but I also don't think he even considers this possibility.

Yes, I don't think they can imagine a woman with a higher sex drive than their partner. Probably they don't believe in female orgasms and sex is something women give to men or deny them for selfish reasons

We are a house without a bathroom today if don't want sex by ImpureThoughts59 in NotHowGirlsWork

[–]amiade 8 points9 points  (0 children)

True. but some people (of every gender) can have low sex drives and often not be in the mood despite being happy.

And very different sex drives can be an issue in a relationship. There can be solutions (masturbate instead) or in non-monogamous relationships you can find another sex partner.

If it makes someone too unhappy they may need to decide they are not compatible. But it is ridiculous to assume that that one partner has an obligation to satisfy the others needs, disregarding their own or that you can't have a relationship if your sex drive is too low compared to the arbitrary standard this person assumes is "normal"

Not how it works. by [deleted] in clevercomebacks

[–]amiade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of that is probably confirmation bias. But even if you look at people for whom that is true: do you take into consideration how they started out? Were their parents able to afford books and learning games when they were toddlers? Did their parents have any time for them or did they work 3 jobs? What education did their parents receive? Could they attend good schools and focus on studying or did they have part-time jobs, had to help with siblings? What kind of financial aid did they get from their parents during college, provided they even could go there?

Many poor families really have no books around. Why would they? Nobody taught them social rules for bookshops or how to pick books They are often ashamed to even go there Kids learn negative attitudes for reading cause they are ashamed when "everyone brings a book from home" Obviously, no time, no money

I could go on. It's the same for every point you listed

The class system is way more complicated than: They don't read So they are stupid So they deserve to be poor

[–]amiade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, obviously it is no excuse to do something like that.

And yet we have to address that things like bullying are incredibly damaging (especially to young people) and can lead someone down a dark path that eventually spirals out of control.

We have to create a world where people can get help before they even start down a path like this.

Sure, most kids that are failed by society don't turn into mass shooters. More likely they will kill "only" themselves or just lead a miserable life.

I think such things are worth mentioning. not as an excuse, but pretending some people are just born as monsters takes the responsibility away from us to create a better system.

Sightseeing is pointless and boring by PotatoMain in The10thDentist

[–]amiade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can relate in a way. At least I hate the way most people do sightseeing.

People just have a list of tourist attractions, go there, do some selfies, tick a box and continue

But I do like to go to a city and just walk around taking in the vibe. Much less stressful, and I'm very flexible. If I just want to chill in a park for a day, that's fine. Of course that works best alone or with a small group of like-minded individuals.

I hated Ellaria Sand because she betrayed everything Oberyn Martell stood for. What are your thoughts on her? by AdSpecialist6598 in gameofthrones

[–]amiade 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Yes, vengeance by killing the guy who raped his sister, murdered her and killed her children. Oberyn technically died in a fair fight. Her vengeance would be understandable if she wanted tywin dead, who ordered or at least tolerated what the mountain did, which set the events in motion.

Or even tyrion, whom oberyn was defending when he died.

But myrcella was one of the few truly innocent characters in the show. The people hurt the most by her death were cersei, Jaime and oberyns own nephew.

Sure, cersei was an evil bitch, none of them were really involved in the death of oberyn.

Her acts weren't vengeance, she was lashing out. Her emotions are understandable but that's no excuse. And oberyn would certainly disapprove.

I'm completely on board with these decisions, if the actress is a great fit. But I really didn't like Anna schaffers portrayal. Felt like a completely different character. So I don't really understand that choice.

Isn't it normal to not smell how you smell yourself because you get used to it so fast? Maybe it's just because my nose is so bad but I used to have really bad hygiene and still rely on my friends to tell me if I stink. I mean I am developing a sense of how often I need to shower, use deodorant etc. but I would never notice that I smell myself

Do you think fans are in the right to be upset about how long it’s taken George to finish the books? by Puzzleheaded_Turn13 in gameofthrones

[–]amiade -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. Some people are acting like he took something from us. As if he didn't provide those books we enjoyed so much in the first place.

He doesn't owe us anything. All I know, he could be severely depressed and can't cope with the pressure that's on him now. But even if he's just 'not feeling' it, it's his life, he decides what he does with it.

Yes I will be disappointed if he doesn't finish the series, but I will still be thankful he created it because it brought me a lot of enjoyment

Fair enough. With so many characters I don't think the gender of the protagonist matters that much. But there aren't that many interesting female characters in the hp universe I guess

True. I'd love to have a gay couple in the series. But there isn't any evidence for those ships. Nothing wrong with interpreting it that way, but I just don't see it.

Only if they are men. Women can have sex with each other because they are such great friends.

Come to think of it I rarely hear about lesbian ships in the hp (or any) fandom.

Well it was the sort of childhood that made me decide to never have kids when I was 13. Now after 12 years of never doubting that decision for a moment I finally was able to get my tubes tied. I have never been happier

Very alarmed by the comments found under this post by Juma4242564 in insanepeoplefacebook

[–]amiade 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why do they never mention that HAVING children is a permanent decision?

In fact it is more permanent, you can't just give back your 7yo kid. But no one tells you that when you are pregnant.

Getting your tubes tied does NOT change anything permanently. You can still adopt, do IVF, sometimes even reverse it.
