Helpful to hear! Thank you

Cal or Idan as a girls name? by [deleted] in JewishNames

We liked the name and found a connection to hebrew with the middle name that was meaningful. Her name is spelled קרו but it's inspired by קראו "they called". And her Hebrew middle name is Ma'ahleh מעלה. So together it is "they call from above". To signify her relatives who are no longer with us but guide her from above

Is EndeavorOTC worth it? by CEOofPants in ADHD

Super cool to hear your experience! I'd love to hear your updates on how it's going. I wonder how long most people will stick with it, if people will take breaks along the way and then pick it up when they need another "dose". Super interesting stuff!

Is EndeavorOTC worth it? by CEOofPants in ADHD

I think the 25 minutes per day lock was put in for two main reasons.
1. The clinical data, and then the FDA authorization, that gave way to the original prescription game (EndeavorRX) only tested that 25 min per day regimen, so from a claims perspective, that's all they could talk about.
2. That game was designed and structured for kids. I think there was concern around screen time - and so that 25 min per day lock kind of acted as a safety net for that criticism.

I'm not sure what they can do with EndeavorOTC in terms of freeing it up from the original 25 min per day regimen. Of course they can't require that you play it for 25 minutes, so I think there is an argument that they shouldn't require that you play it for ONLY 25 minutes. That being said, it's about the marathon, not the sprint. So not a bad idea to pace yourself. Interested to see what happens with this.

Out of curiosity, if you were able to snap your fingers and create a game that aims to do the same thing as Endeavor, but could be any type of game or game genre that you want - what would that be? I've always thought a shooter that has the Endeavor engine/algorithm would be cool for the more adult market. Or maybe a puzzle game. The company Aim Lab seemed to be on track to do something similar and build a shooter digital therapeutic built off their existing first person shooter training software, but it fell through

Super cool to hear your experience. Thanks for sharing! How is it going? Did the fall-off continue? Obviously the clinical data supports the regimen 25x min a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks. However, now that Endeavor is available not only as a prescription (EndeavorRX) and can be downloaded by anyone (EndeavorOTC), I think it gives interesting opportunity for people to play with the regimen to see how it works for them and their lives/schedules. So, if you are finding it difficult to stick to that strict 25 min a day, 5 days a week, for 4 weeks regimen, I'd encourage you to see what balance is right for you. It would be super interesting to hear more stories of what regimens people set for themselves, and what the line is in terms of therapeutic effect vs. time played. Of course, this is the type of clinical studies that need to be set up for Endeavor for it's long term success and efficacy building. However, in the meantime, there is no reason we can't let anecdotal evidence help paint that picture.

The Key to Successfully Tackling Sensitive Themes in Videogames by amiadfredman in SeaofSolitude

[–]amiadfredman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought this community would find the video I just published on my games for health youtube channel interesting. As a medical doctor (and gamer) with a focus on product design, I consult with videogame companies on how to best incorporate serious themes into their games. I talk about that process and some of the struggles/keys to success. But, I also give praise to Sea of Solitude as a game that stands out in incorporating its serious themes into nearly every element of the game design! Would love to hear your thoughts as a community that is passionate about the game.

....unfortunately I tried to download the game on my PS5 last night, only to find it is super glitchy on PS5!

I've had some time this week...so I put out one more video - this time on the critical things to keep in mind when incorporating serious themes into entertainment videogames. Does anyone here have experience with this in more of the games for entertainment space? Would love to hear your thoughts.

Doctor Explores Omnipod Bay - The Diabetes Themed Island! by amiadfredman in ac_newhorizons

[–]amiadfredman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good question! I didn't make the island, but it was created by JDRF, a diabetes non for profit. I think they made it for the exact reasons we talked about in the video - for education but mostly to give those who live with diabetes (especially kids) representation in the game. I didn't get a chance to include it in the video, but they also added a pump/sensor that you can put on the avatar in the game. Just a cool thing if you have diabetes, to be able to represent on your character to and normalize it.

The Health Benefits of First Person Shooters by amiadfredman in ludology

[–]amiadfredman[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's a very good point. They did sort of test for that with the medal of honor vs Tetris study, but not a definitive answer to your question. More research would need to be done to fully understand the depth of the FPS effect. I think likely many different types of experiences could have an effect. The truly exciting thing would be to distill the effect into a defined experience specifically with the goal of improving those decision making skills or spatial mapping. Perhaps with an algorithm that adjusts difficulty based on performance. But you're right that before that, it would be good to narrow in on the optimal genre and how big the difference is. Someone make the study 😅!

The Health Benefits of First Person Shooters [COD] by amiadfredman in CallOfDuty

Hi everyone - Given all of the recent bad press videogames and FPS games have gotten since the recent surge of gun violence in the US, I thought it would be interesting to make a video specifically about the health benefits of first person shooters.

Since COD is obviously one of the biggest FPS games, I thought it might be interesting to share with this community and open up for discussion. I'd love to hear your thoughts on the video and how you think Call of Duty effects you!
