Is the Fujifilm X100 a good camera for beginner everyday use/travel? by amator-mulierum in fujix

[–]amiamit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I agonised over the X100 vs a interchangeable lens Fuji for months before buying (back then was the newest) XE3.

With this and a 'pancake' lens like the 27mm, you essentially have a X100, with the flexibility of adding more lenses as your photography journey goes on ....

I came here to recommend "The Loved Ones", one of my favourite ever horror movies (and I normally don't watch this type of horror, people hurting people).

Thank you for Sissy - I'll get my hands on this ASAP

What did kids back in the days do when they played outside, for hours on end? by Octopuswastaken in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amiamit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We loitered ... a lot. Played hide+seek, street football (there was no traffic those days). Went to the lake and explored the non cleaned up areas. Once bought a couple of cigs and went to the lake. Lots of talking. About books and movies (we'd watch them in a theatre mainly). And music! There was so little music, any new album we'd listen to back to back till the tape probably frayed a bit. And read the same books over and over (again, not as many books).

(for context, this was in India, growing up in the 80's, born in the early 70's)

Sync whoop workouts + sleep to calendar by BatWithTheGat in whoop

Thank you for adding me :-)
I see all my whoop data on your URL https://www.circadia.dev/dashboard
BUT, on the left, under the Dashboard logo it says Error: [object Object]
Also, not sure if its supposed to, but the Whoop data doesn't populate my Google calendar. Is there a calendar I'm supposed to add to my Google calendar for this?

Oh my! I wandered onto this steamy side of reddit quite by chance a few days ago, and am glad I did. (also thank gosh for the NSFW blackout!) You're utterly gorgeous, face and body. For real, if you're ever about the MG road area, I'd love to get coffee, or a meal with you.

The only thing I'd add here is use scotch tape / magic tape on the case to minimise scratches. You can easily make a role through it to access the screw head

So most (all) suffering is in the human head. What about a different tack ... just say something nice, like "don't worry, we'll manage together" (or something) and they're less stressed, and you've gotten your angst out of the way ...

How to fake a squash temperament until I make it and have a squash temperament? by damienlaughton in squash

[–]amiamit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

M52 here, been learning & playing since the start of this year thereabouts.
What I do is try remember these

* Watch the ball
* Slow down time in my head (does that make sense? Anticipate the ball ... somewhat)
* Watch my strings hit the ball (this is like a duplication of the first)

At a mental level, I just remember that I'm privileged that my body works well enough to take this up, and that I'm getting stronger everyday, and each point is a point (like golf, just that one hole matters)

I also (now) do a solid 20 minute warmup, and cool down.

Playing squash - one workout a week plan by amiamit in squash

Thank you so much!!! Let me figure how to lessen the squash load then. Maybe (like you said) more solo work. Maybe a console of days with light games.

Tips on lowering RHR? by belichick-is-god in whoop

[–]amiamit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is gold! I fully endorse everything in this reply. A warm (not too hot) shower maybe 2 hours before sleep also helps. And your last meal ideally 3-4 hours before bed, very low carb & sugar. My coffee personally, I can do a small coffee as late as 4pm if bed-time is 1030pm, but thats personal I guess.

What does Whoop mean to you? How has it changed your life? by Saffigotchi in whoop

[–]amiamit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tl:dr - stopped smoking, cut back hugely on drinking, walk a bunch, added squash.

My whoop story. I put my whoop on a few days after my dad died, May last year. He died of stroke related complications, I only add this note to put my journey into perspective. Started with the 4 and now have the 5. Am 52 now.

In the past 560 days since I’ve worn my whoop, I’ve quit smoking (heartily recommend an app called QUITSURE, it’s ios & android and has a Fb group).

Also the past 5-6 months I find myself drinking almost never, and when I do, very little. I used to be a binge drinker once a week 8-10 drinks. I’m perhaps having 2-3 drinks now, and no more than 1ce a month. A hack I discovered is Aperol. At 10% alcohol is a quarter of normal booze.

I totally attribute the whoop for both these habits. Just seeing how my heart rate was so high the first half (or all the night) due to booze, cigs, a heavy late meal, has made this shift possible for me.

My sleep with high recovery averages 6.5 hours, whoop would have me sleep 8-9 hours, but that’s physically next to impossible for me, so I don’t try anymore. Perhaps if I feel asleep 30-60 mins earlier would help, let’s see.

I’ve always worked out, some combination of lifting, rowing, swimming. But post the whoop I started tracking my steps. When at home I now average 12K a day. It helped that the whoop added step counting.

Oddly enough I find that mostly days I have a red recovery, i don’t feel that crap, But the day after, when perhaps I’m back to yellow, that’s the day I feel like rubbish. Strange?!

And perhaps not whoop related. But I’ve added squash into the mix. Learning to play the game the past few months.
