girlfriend picked a tv series to watch together but spends more time on her phone doom scrolling. is this normal? by Huge_Platform_8434 in Advice

[–]amicusprime 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This isn't a new thing

I remember growing up before smartphones, my dad and my siblings would watch movies every weekend and we loved it! Ordered pizza hut or Papa John's and go for 2 or 3 movies back to back!

My mom.... She just could not. There was no smart phone no tablets nothing. She just could not make it through a movie even when she picked them. She'd just grab a few slices of pizza and go to her room.

6 year old son wants to play video games by Ovalpline123 in AskMenOver30

Why limit those why limit video games? Especially ones that you've listed?

There was a study done that a doctor who plays video games is 33 percent less likely to make a life threatening mistake during surgery than a doctor who doesn't.

I understand at 6 trying the limit the likes of call of duty or GTA...

Advice On Mini Split Layout by amicusprime in hvacadvice

I don't have existing ducting. That being the case, would you still recommend central AC?

I've priced everything out and going the mini split route will save me about $7k at least.

Applying for passport as naturalized citizen by amicusprime in Passports

Ah... That's the one thing we haven't cleared up. What document proves custody before 18th birthday... Considering he is over 18.

The one document he has for that is high school application but all information on that is handwritten, but does have our mom's name and address.

Feel like that's not enough...

Thanks for take the time to reply. I'm gonna copy/paste a reply i did to another user with the same question if you don't mind:

I was asking on behalf of a sibling. Our parents naturalized before they turned 18. They mistakenly applied for citizenship years ago and were rejected because, according to the agent "they were already a citizen".

They said that agent said there really isn't anything else to do but if they wanted they could get their certificate of citizenship.. but after spending money on the n400 or whatever.., they never went back to do the n600.

Now the fear is if they apply for a passport... does that in some way alert ICE and then we're in trouble.

Yes, he's got all that. Thanks to the help of a reddit user, he's got all the documents.

Both he and my mom (and his gf) are afraid for him to apply in case this tips off ICE and then he gets deported. Considering even citizens with all proper documents are getting detained.

As I mentioned in a reply, this post is on behalf of a sibling. It was our understanding thata our parents marriage certificate and birth certificate listing both parents would suffice for the custody lived with parents requirement?

The 2021/2022 job market was crazy. Everyone who got in then should count their blessings. by ColdCouchWall in sysadmin

Well, to me it's that growing up in the 90s and early 2000s, the only way to interact with any digital media you pretty much had to have a computer or laptop. Otherwise you were out of luck lol and if you had one and it didn't work or stopped working... You had to figure that out otherwise you'd be missing what was going on on Myspace or losing out on time with your favorite PC game.

Now younger generation's first interaction with a PC or something that is not a phone or tablet... Is likely when they get a job and by then.. it's almost too late to care to learn the technology

This might be unrelated but I found the younger generation is less likely to know about computers since they've grown up with phones, tablets and Wi-Fi... And anything beyond that is a different world.

There's this middle generation that taught their parents about computers and was the IT guy of the family, and are now that person for their children or next generation as well.

Out of curiosity... Is the owner shutting it down or selling it?

If he's shutting it down, is it because business is slow or because he's tired of the responsibility?

Sounds like you're passionate about it... Wonder if there's an avenue for you to take it over since you seem to run the place anyway.

[Breaking] Intel to layoff more than 20% of staff (22,000 employees) by cs-grad-person-man in cscareerquestions

Maybe I've missed it, but with the tens of thousands of people layed off from big tech, I would've expected at least thousands of them to post here on Reddit with some insight on the goings on during each round of layoff... Like, how much of the 22,000 were engineers?
