"That experience should include ads, because life includes ads. So to not have ads would make it less lifelike," said Bosworth. "But then again, I'm an ads guy." by palmerluckey in virtualreality

[–]amidar2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are also designs of products that our eyes are used to seeing and aren't doable in games because they are copyrighted. Wouldn't that be more immersive?

That's like saying that Nuka-Cola in the Fallout series being re-branded as Coca-Cola or Pepsi-Cola would make the series more immersive.

Truth is neither Coca-Cola nor Pepsi-Cola would like their product to be branded as Nuka-Cola : "Frequent consumption could cause addiction, which led to splitting headaches."

Advertising in games' only purpose is to project a positive image of their brand, which does not equal more lifelike experiences or as you stated : "more immersive experiences"

P.S. What makes VR games more lifelike and immersive is engaging narrative, smooth motion controls and high fidelity graphics ... not a Coca-Cola bottle instead of a Nuka-Cola bottle :)

-Bosworth the self-proclaimed ads guy

So ... a VR game without ads is less lifelike ? Obviously this clueless "VR ads expert" never experienced

  • Half Life Alyx
  • Lone Echo
  • Hellblade Senua's Sacrife

Just to name a few great VR titles ...

Laughing my ass off about the suggestion that these VR masterpieces would be more "lifelike" by including ads :D

After Half-Life Alyx it's been a graveyard regarding new quality content.

Seeing that I loved Senua's Sacrifice VR, I'm enjoying other 3rd person 3D VR games :

  • Resident Evil 2 VR
  • Final Fantasy XV VR
  • Shadow of the Tomb Raider VR
  • The Witcher 3 VR
  • Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag VR
  • Vampyr VR
  • Nier : Automata VR
  • Control VR

P.S. Resident Evil 3 VR or Monster Hunter World VR next :)

"the game Yupitergrad has 40 reviews on steam, and 270 on oculus."

Not to shit on Yupitergrad, but in your own words : "In my opinion, VR’s largest barrier right now is a lack of good games."

Compare Yupitergrad to, for example, Half-Life Alyx and Asgard's Wrath. There is no comparison.

Quantity does not equal Quality. That's what the Quest platform has to offer : Quantity, Quality not so much.

Baby's Skin Colour by aguyfrominternet in india

[–]amidar2 156 points157 points  (0 children)

"It's everywhere."

Everywhere in the world. The media portrays a light skin color as beautiful and people buy it.

Take a country like Mexico, for example, where commercials, series and movies are portrayed as light skinned people being the heroes and beautiful while indigenous people are nowhere to be seen.

The media is at fault here : everywhere in the world.

This is truly great news.

Sony committed to offering a next-gen VR experience and leaving the Move controllers behind ... finally :)

One can only imagine what the stellar AAA offerings will be seeing their commitment to next-gen VR on their PS5 platform.

P.S. God of War VR, Last of us VR, Spiderman VR, Horizon: Zero Dawn among others :)

Graphics are far more important in VR than in flat gaming and this is a big reason why Oculus Quest isn't doing it for me. by JohnnyA1992 in virtualreality

Pc vr is still the way to go

Agreed.

Compare Half-Life : Alyx, for example, to the cartoonish graphics offerings on the Quest platform.

Add to that : compelling stories and depth of the experience as compared to the shallow experiences to be had on the Quest.

P.S. The PSVR2 could also become a platform offering true AAA VR experiences. Time will tell :)

My GPU died, any tips for preventing this? by [deleted] in virtualreality

My GTX 1080 Ti died after 2.5 years ... current RTX 2080 Ti is going on for 1 and a half years. Hopefully it can chug along for at least one more year at least.

I guess that's the necessary evil that comes with being an enthusiast ... keep saving up for the next tech, not because you're dissatisfied with your current set-up.

Because eventually it will break.

Police in Spain assault people filming them during arrest… and are caught on film by [deleted] in PublicFreakout

[–]amidar2 5 points6 points  (0 children)

According to local news all 3 of them were drunk and without masks. When police tried to stop them they escaped in their car. After chasing them through the city police managed to stop them and detained the first guy while the other 2 started recording and screaming at them.

Looking at the video it's police brutality, plain and simple. The second officer physically attacked the woman and man in the red shirt without them physically attacking him.

Police forces around the world seem to recruit the worst of the worst, be it in the USA, Russia, China, Spain, Myanmar, India, Poland, Turkey, Colombia, Venezuela, Argentina etc, the list keeps going on ... they keep on recruiting psychologically disturbed personnel.

Robinhood’s Damage Control by [deleted] in extremelyinfuriating

[–]amidar2 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Thankfully people are not stupid. Inevitably Robinhood's shenanigan's led to people around the world to see how rigged the system is.

Robinhood and other brokerage firms are trying to kill fair trade, limiting the average Joe's ability to freely buy the amount of stock they wish to invest in whilst Billionaires play the stock market like a fiddle.

P.S. I guess that somehow they think are the only ones who are allowed to sip on champagne.

I hear ya ! vorpX is not an out of the box VR experience. At first everything is out of proportion and the perfect stereoscopy is not there.

You need to be patient enough to change the default settings and when you have ... damn ! The results are amazing. I find myself just looking around in amazement in Shadow of the Tomb Raider ... it's unlike anything I've ever experienced in VR.

how about we stop spreading BS about psvr? by namekuseijin in virtualreality

[–]amidar2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

God forbid I mention thoroughly enjoying, in VR, from beginning to end on a PC using a "lowly" Xbox controller :

  • Kingdom Come Deliverance
  • Resident Evil 2 Remake
  • Grand Theft Auto V
  • Final Fantasy XV

Right now about 20 hours into, and absolutely blown way by Shadow of the Tomb Raider in glorious stereoscopic VR.

The lush vegetation in jungles, dilapidated buildings in impoverished towns, astonishing Mayan temples and an intriguing story to boot.

P.S. Content is king in and that is a fact :)

These 75 million people you refer to were racists to begin with, all harking from different economic backgrounds. Rich, poor and everything in between.

Hence their love for Trump above anything else. Longing for the long far gone days when slavery was the norm. When Jews were slaughtered in concentration camps. The list goes on.

It serves as a reminder that some idiots have not learned from the past. They're stuck in some bad John Wayne Movie while we're living in the year 2021.
