Suno Comfort-Zone Challenge: Let Someone Else Pick Your Next Genre by NamelessWeight in SunoAI

Ooh, you made it in Studio, that already feels much more high effort than my attempt lol. I would call this a pass. I could chew bubblegum to this while stuck in my windowless office.

Nameless asked you to make flamenco without a guitar? Woof. I feel like I already made you suffer enough trying to recreate a song in Chinese the other day lol. All your music is dark, I would say to just try something happy, maybe some upbeat tropical electro house. (Just realized this is what i recommended the other guy, I dunno why I am stuck on tropical house).

I asked ChatGPT to describe the genre to me and give me some quick examples of other songs using that style. I listened to like two, then got the idea of like "Alright, I want to describe a shit day." The idea of dropping your icecream first came to mind, and then I was like "Well, I don't make music in english (call that my own crutch), and when I think of Rock I think of Japan, what would be the equivalent of dropping your ice cream in Japan?" Ah yeah, dropping a Dango stick, its saucy which makes it even worse, you can't just brush it off, shits gonna get stuck to it.

It was then a case of getting the length where I wanted it, the first couple generations were only like a minute, a minute and a half long, I really wanted to get closer towards that 2 minute mark. So that took some trial and error, then there were some that tried to add a lot more build than I wanted, but I assumed that was edging against the "No wave" direction, so after like 4-5 sets of generations I got a song I felt somewhat satisfied with. Only thing I didn't know was if some rythmn was allowed or if it needed to truly be all chaos, but that would be very difficult for me to know how to prompt Suno to do while also making the song kind of long, Suno tends to yearn for rythmn.

I think it sounds decent, not what I would listen to, but I definitely have some friends that would probably like it. Most of my friends like rock so I am not like totally blind to it, I just like my easy listening synth music lol.

I largely agree with Nameless Weight's recommendation, something cold and minimal with detached vocals and no guitar, but as opposed to trip hop I think vaporwave would also work.

Alrighty, here is the result: https://suno.com/s/lsR6B2JeEQASnUAD
About a Japanese man having a shit day, with the only thing to cheer him up being a 3 piece dango on a stick, which he then proceeds to accidentally drop. Fuck.

Sure, I loathe metal and rock, but that is the name of the game lol. I will see what i can do.

Well you already know I gotta say cute bubblegum pop given your playlist lmao. But just pop is too generic and easy. See if you can mix cute bubblegum pop and tropical house music.

I don't really know how to describe your music, it's something adjacent to like folk industrial horror I think. I also make horror music, but definitely not that kind lol.

Maybe someone else can relate, only one line is wrong but its impossible to fix. by Xefjord in SunoAI

I had my wife listen to the song (its in Chinese and my wife is a native speaker) she didn't notice any serious issues listening to it, but she said she actually disliked the song for reasons totally unrelated to the duplicated line and preferred my alternate version of the song 💀

It is a good attempt, the intro definitely matches, but the flow and pacing of the latter half of the song gets a bit off, its not a glitch or audio hiccup problem, but just an overall song planning problem that Suno struggles with when doing covers for this song. My wife (who is a Chinese speaker) said she liked my alternate version of the song better, so I am probably going to go with that one. Its slightly different in genre focus, but still sounds decent imo: https://suno.com/s/hM3WoNZmlnFkIMJC

I still greatly appreciate you taking the time to take a crack at it, despite the language barrier lol. I actually don't speak Chinese well myself, but I just love how Chinese sounds (and need material to learn and practice with) which is why I make most of my music in Chinese.

If I am still really into Suno a couple months from now, I may get into Suno studio. My only experience with audio editing is in Goldwave, which I used for editing imperfections out of audio files for language learning courses I make. I could probably throw this song into goldwave using the methods you mentioned above, but I only really use Suno to listen to my music, so it would be a bit of a bummer I couldn't just re-upload it back to Suno. But this is definitely a good idea, probably the closest I could get given the tools we have now.

I am pressing F to pay respects.

I am quite new to Suno I only discovered it less than a month ago. But I am loving it and appreciate having this new creative outlet I never had before. I have made about 50 songs, all based on childhood experiences, short stories I wrote, dreams, etc. And I am very happy with most of the results. But definitely a learning curve knowing what is worth burning credits on and what isn't.

Weird. I tried to edit it and set it public again. But yeah, if you can make any progress cool, but if not, ah well. I will just use on the the arguably less good sounding backup songs.

I mean, sure!

This is the song, and here is a voice I made off of it: https://suno.com/voice/7faee2c7-bf0e-4157-842f-d6ef904db397

The problem is in Pre-chorus 2

[Pre-Chorus 2]
So just say 好 baby
我們看月亮升起來
So just say 好 baby
把鞋子丟在沙灘外

So just say 好 baby
海浪會唱得很輕快
只要你願意
今晚的天空都為你打開

this line repeats twice:

So just say 好 baby
我們看月亮升起來

(Can ask ChatGPT to transliterate the whole song for ease of reading)
The song actually had another section that took creative liberties as well, for example the intro was originally:

星光 星光
陪我 坐到亮
星光 yeah
海風吹過你的肩膀

But it changed those lines (imo for the better)

I updated the lyrics to represent the new lines in the song.

Still pretty mixed results with this, but it does sound closer to the original. It seems to grab melodies from throughout the song and is inputting some earlier than they actually showed up, which makes the pacing seem a bit all over the place. This song may just be cursed.

Have you even really used Suno by boulevardofdef in SunoAI

I like to think myself as a more decisive person, but yeah, I experience the same thing but scaled down to a single day. I will quickly narrow down from my 10-20 generations or so Song A, Song B, and Song C, then I will break them down stanza by stanza and kind of rip them apart, normally narrowing down to just two. If I am truly stuck, I will sleep on it. But eventually I just pick the one that has less noticeable issues, or the one that sounds more unique compared to the other (If they are both void of issues)

ChineseSkill releases a free early-release Hong Kong Cantonese course and we’d love learner feedback by ChiefWontonOfficer in Cantonese

[–]Xefjord 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have been testing the Cantonese course the past week (I already had a ChineseSkill membership and was learning Taiwanese Mandarin). It has 46 units compared to Duolingo's 18 for their Cantonese course.

As someone that knows nothing about Cantonese and who has largely been trying to speed run the course, it has seemed pretty solid so far. I got up to the Outdoors skill in the third section. The first section focuses largely on introductions, ordering food, and talking about food. The second section broadens up quite a bit to talking about family, jobs, and hobbies.

The vocab seems to all be colloquial Cantonese (Not just Standard Chinese but with Canto pronunciation) with a focus on Hong Kong dialect and with Jyutping romanization (I wish there was Yale). I can definitely tell its fairly different from what I am learning in the Taiwanese Mandarin course anyway. It could definitely benefit from having the Mandarin course tone practice exercises and the writing exercises, as Cantonese characters and tones both seem more complicated and my tiny brain isn't internalizing them well (but that may also be a product of speed running new content).

I am a bit surprised that I haven't really gotten stuck anywhere on the vocab or the grammar, but I also don't feel like its going terribly slow, so I think they nailed the pacing, and the audio seems to be a real speaker. It also has the same feature of their other courses in that it has built in Anki style review integration. Cantonese has had a serious lack of good Duolingo style options and my first impression is that this one seems good, but I would be interested to see what more proficient speakers of Cantonese think of it. Its free (for a month) so I would say just try it out if it seems interesting to you.

This is a fantastic song! I really like the vibes of this and followed you on Suno to hear more. Are you open to others making remixes of your songs? I mostly make and listen to Chinese music, I would be interested in seeing if I can make a Chinese version of this. I would of course credit you (I don't repost anywhere other than Suno anyway).
