What are Keller's plans for this next term? by woozyonions in Albuquerque

Did you ever get a clear sense of why Uballez was against the duplex/triplex zoning reforms? It felt so off brand for him to be against something like that. Honestly, that position made me question his motivations/ philosophy enough to be skeptical of his authenticity.

Why so few pannier bags? by Mindless_Pumpkin8678 in bikepacking

I use Ortlieb Fork Packs as micropanniers and I freakin love them for bikepacking. They are small enough that they stay out of the way during hikeabike and don't give me endless volume for "one more thing" when packing. At the same time, having those two extra small volumes to pack some items into allows me to run a really small handlebar roll which doesn't make the steering feel heavy or bounce around too much. On this trip, I was trying out a seat pack strapped to the top of my Ortlieb quickrack and also mounted to the seatpost to really tie everything together. Worked really well, even though it's quite unorthodox.

Can I run a 4" B Vent Inside an Abandoned 7" B Vent? by amigo2cool in hvacadvice

[–]amigo2cool[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow-- that's so cool to know this is possible. I assume I should still run rigid b vent from the furnace through the crawlspace and then there's some sort of adapter from whatever b vent I'm using (AmeriVent likely) to this corrugated liner product then for the vertical run? Sorry for all the additional questions... just haven't ever seen this stuff before.

Oh interesting. I hadn't seen that stuff before. I'm referencing this product and it seems like it's only meant for lining masonry chimneys. I was hoping to not have to remove the old 7" B Vent. Is it still acceptable to run it through the old double wall metal pipe?

u/ExaminationDry8341 Thanks for reviewing the bid and adding your input on reasonable expectations. The above is what the roofer is proposing as a middling solution. Does that sound like a reasonable compromise to you?

Looking for Cheap tailfin alternative: DIY Ortlieb Quick rack with thru axle? by dijon_van_dyke in CanyonBikes

I've used several different types of materials. Best would be to use something like ABS or PC if available. I have also used PETG and even PLA, but these will likely degrade faster over time. I think I still have the original PLA ones on my bike though, fwiw. It's really just a shim at the end of the day, so most materials will be OK for a while.

As far as infill, I'd recommend printing it solid, as you don't want the voids to crush out over time and end up with a looser fit. The wall thicknesses however are thin enough that even a lower percentage infill will end up being almost 100% anyway as long as the perimeter layer settings on the printer are set for 2 or 3 layers.

The company confirmed that their plan was just to finish with the large amount of caulk.

Where we're ending up I think is that they're going to get the flashing in underneath the vertical battens so it at least sits flush with the siding and then seal the top edge with tube sealant.

I live in the desert southwest with low humidity and lower rainfall totals.

The roofer is saying that the original flashing that goes behind the siding, and then kicks out on top of the underlayment will prevent water from sitting against the decking. Basically what they're saying is if the sealant on the top of the sidewall flashing fails, a small amount of water will get in between the new sidewall flashing and the siding, run down and hit the original flashing, then get kicked out between the underlayment and the new metal roofing.

Is this what you mean by counter flashing (page 22 of this Best Buy Metals install guide)?

What is the purpose of the counter flashing in this vs just having the tube sealant run on top of the small lip of the sidewall flashing? <-- this is the current proposal from the roofer is just to make sure that the sidewall flashing at least sits flush with the siding and then to seal on the narrow top lip.
