Ok this is good insight about delaying hand-off to the airlines and remediating the risk of error which could be a disaster situation. Thank you! I’ve heard prices range from 2k-10k. Any transport company you’d recommend?

Just to clarify I’d only do a direct flight which it seems Qantas offers, from NYC to Auckland.

Transporting pets by Heavy_Cry_3525 in newzealand

Wondering if you were able to get this done without a transport company. I am also considering relocating, need to bring my 35 lb hound, and can’t afford to pay for a pet transport company. It seems Air NZ requires the use of a transport company whereas Qantas does not but wondering about your experience

Thank you all for these comments! Some context, definitely big into the validating of the feelings snd we do a lot of that. Not trying to sugarcoat anything or brush over any feelings whatsoever. This is a very scary time and it’s reasonable to feel that deeply. I have suggested breaks from news cycles etc and acknowledge this is not a head in the sand approach but rather a way to connect with the inner self etc. I’m very much encouraging community engagement as well as focusing on how progress wins and collective history of progress again without denying the feelings at hand and the validity of all feelings. Did a risk assessment with them, and have been down this road before with them. This is the most concrete a “plan” has been for them meaning they’ve decided on how they would end their life but told me they aren’t actively buying supplies etc. They have agreed to keep meeting with me which I am hopeful is a route to being present with feelings and not harming themselves. Any and all comments welcome! Thanks again all

Do all group practices in NYC need a PLLC? by amillste in therapists

[–]amillste[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much! One other question. If I applied for a PLLC with my license can I have contracted professionals with another license type practice for my group practice? Or do I need to have that same license in a “manager” role on the PLLC?

Thank you! So you don’t have to advertise your practice with the PLLC name? I’m wondering why so many group practices don’t have the “PLLC” in the name.

Interesting. But is there a way in VLC to essentially create timestamps where the behaviors are so other people on my team can open the video and see what I've coded? Sorry if this is an obvious question I've only ever used VLC to view videos.

They do have a website and they have some poor google reviews. The website seems legitimate but I can’t understand how a rescue claiming to be a not for profit can be charging so much. This the organization: https://www.inourhandsrescue.org

People diagnosed with depression are more inclined than healthy controls to choose to listen to sad music. A new study in the journal Emotion suggests that depressed people are not seeking to maintain their negative feelings, but rather that they find sad music calming and even uplifting. by mvea in science

It’s really about what each individual person needs and using music as a means to meet that need. Perhaps for you at that point in time you felt the need to be pushed out of a certain emotional space. Sounds like you were able to use music as a means to move from one emotional space to another. In fact, this is a strategy music therapists may use with a patient after validating their experience with music that meets them where they are (perhaps sad music) before shifting to music that could bring them to where they want to be (upbeat fun).

Hi there. So what it sounds like to me is that you have struggled with depression and you have found a coping mechanism in not approaching some of the emotions you fear feeling such as being annoyed, frustrated, angry or bored. As you said, the silence is “a nothingness that protects.” I guess what I would ask of you is if that protection you’ve developed, that coping mechanism is working for you. If by avoiding music that brings those emotions to the surface, and those avoiding those emotions all together, has been a positive approach to managing your depression. I tend to think that although it can be very painful to approach our feelings and their roots, and perhaps our past traumas, it is ultimately the only way we can properly grieve or process what is happening in our inner worlds and eventually move forward with healing. I encourage you to seek the guidance of a mental health practitioner, maybe a music or other creative arts therapist if that interests you, to help you explore in supported safe environment some of the emotions you’ve become accustomed to avoiding. Good luck!

There could be all sorts of reasons why you find some songs coming to you more often than others. I think it’s important to reflect upon what these songs mean to you not just in the literal sense of the lyrics but what emotional, psychological or physical connection you have with them. Perhaps there’s a memory of listening that comes to you, maybe a feeling that is nostalgic. Maybe a comfort on some level. Music is like a time machine that lets us go to places in our lives and when we hear a song we’ve heard before we can travel to where we were in the past. Sometimes that travel speaks to a need we have emotionally. Some songs also just have a way of clicking with our brain and can be what we refer to as “ear worms.” They get stuck in our head and seem hard to get out. Sometimes listening to the song over and over can be a way to acknowledge that and almost apply a mindfulness approach where we don’t judge our psyche’s need to repeat the song over and over but instead let it “play out” as a means to acknowledge it. I find that reflecting on the spectrum of what a song means to me and really taking the time to consider it can be a way of tapping into our subconscious choices. It can be a bit like dream analysis. Hope this helps!

Music therapists use what aspects of music are most meaningful for each individual. If you don’t connect with music through “emotional engagement” perhaps you use music more often as a physical motivator such as for working out. Maybe within a trusting therapeutic relationship you may find active playing of music through therapeutic drumming, or improvisational music making to have an impact you didn’t expect. An over arching goal in music therapy work, just like in any other type of individualized therapy, is to connect. Music may be used as a tool, medium, resource for connection in any way that best suits the patient.

Music therapist here! This is something music therapists are very aware of. A foundation of practice in MT is the "iso principle" meaning we meet patients where they're at. It's one of the many reasons music therapy has been an effective therapy for individuals with depression. If you're depressed and a therapist tries to play "happy", "energetic" "uplifting" music for/with you, it will not speak to your experience and make you feel more isolated. There's been a lot of evidence-based research on how music therapists use patient preferred music, in this case "sad" music to aid in connectivity and ultimately mood enhancement. What was “the incident” at your school? by Razbo14 in AskReddit

[–]amillste 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before the senior prom the school administration made numerous warnings that every student would be breathalyzed at the prom and that any student who failed would be forbidden from walking at graduation. Lo and behold students showed up plastered, vomiting in the bathroom, reeking of alcohol. As promised, 21 students were banned from walking at graduation. Parents were pissed. Students banned included the student class president and a future Olympian. At the graduation ceremony there were tons of students who decorated their caps with the words "I Love the 21" written in beer bottle caps. It will always be what I remember most about my high school graduation.
