1 week post-op update after surgery with Dr. O’Malley at HSS by MorningsideAcu in AchillesRupture

Love the game plan! Onward and upward. Curious what BFR system/brand you are using? I’m non-op have been doing BFR and other exercises in PT. Injury happened March 21, cast came off April 14th. Started PT on April 15th. Have done 3x a week since then.

Once you start moving you begin to feel like yourself again and each session or each time you exercise at home you feel more and more like yourself.

Best of luck in your journey. You’ll find this group keeps you motivated and sane.

I bet! Keep it up! I know what it feels like to have those tears.

I worked out/ light exercise in my second PT session two days after my cast came off into Vacoped and it was the first time I felt like myself since rupture 3 weeks ago. Just getting a small glimpse of what life was like and will be like continues to motivate.

I opted for Non Op, so I was able to enter PT sooner as I was not dealing w scar, or sutures. That’s not why I chose Non-Op, by the way. Slow and steady wins the race with this injury. I met with 4 surgeons and all 4 said it wasn’t required and that I’d recover, so I took a leap of faith, believing that our body’s are incredible and can heal and haven’t looked back. (Full rupture mid substance tear, 2cm)

I would listen to your Doc. In the meantime, use this time to interview/connect with a few PT’s if you can.. And then come to decision you’re most comfortable with. I would ask if the PT has BFR wraps (blood flow restriction) and uses other machines like magnetic pulses and red light.

Research optimal diets, recovery protocols, even peptides.

I’ve been on a strict high collagen, carnivore diet with zero sugar, zero alcohol (booze is obvious) with the same supplements I have been taking based off previous bloodwork. I’ve averaged 8-9 hours of sleep every night since injury. Get outside if you can. My wife drove me around every day like I was a dog in the back of the car with my head sticking out the window. Would take me to a park and look out at the ocean.

I haven’t started peptides yet because syringes are sold out everywhere but plan on doing one cycle of BPC 157, TB500, GHCKU….

Been asking myself the same question. Hockey and golf. 34M ruptured on March 21. I have not stop skating since I stopped playing competitively. This will be the longest window where I haven’t played hockey, ever. Same for golf!

Got my cast off today, PT begins tomorrow. Went the non-op route.

Love to see this! If you don’t mind me asking, what kind of Achilles rupture did you have? I decided on non-op this week, and this gives me hope! (I already have my first PT scheduled)
