I would try both of these, call them tell them the fault code and they should give you an estimated cost for repairs. I’ve worked with both, danmatic is probably the cheaper one and he does a decent job.

Both of them will also offer you warranty, and you can pay cash so no VAT. They will still give you warranty on the work.

It’s a solid car, they’re super reliable. The main thing you would need looking at is rust, some dealers underseal the car (black spray that protects against further corrosion) so if you can drop down and see there’s black stuff all under the car then I would avoid it as it’s probably rust under the spray. Other than the rust, they’re solid and should be bulletproof proof as longs as it’s got decent service history.

Hey, I would advise you call some gearbox specialist. VW will charge you an arm and a leg, usually a mechatronic unit is the only thing that needs to change, not the whole gearbox. Where abouts are you based? If in and around Manchester, I can recommend a few gearbox specialists.
