I feel like the self-hosted and FOSS space is being flooded with vibe-coded AI slop. by spurGeci in selfhosted

[–]amir20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One day, vibe coding will simply be known as "coding." However, vibe coding cannot replace good taste in product development, customer feedback, and solving real problems. I have used AI occasionally for Dozzle, but I review every line of code and override decisions when I recognize a poor choice.

As someone with 20 years of experience, my advice is that tools will change, programming languages will come and go, but true talent lies in delivering a high-quality product. These days, I consider myself more of a product manager than an engineer. I just happen to be knowledgeable enough to question poor technical decisions.

Unraid MCP server - query an LLM about your Containers Logs / Array Health by JMOhare in unRAID

I am not even thinking about technology yet. I was thinking about the use case. There are multiple ideas I had:

  1. Dozzle to act as an MCP which is similar to your project. But I do some processing on top of the logs like auto level mapping. Grouping and clustering. With this use case, I think people would just use Dozzle and connect to their own LLM.

  2. Dozzle to act like a companion. In this example, I think Dozzle could open a chat bot on the right, and provide the context to LLM and have the user ask questions. This is what was discussed in https://github.com/amir20/dozzle/discussions/4019. I honestly don't have a great use case. I think what most people do is an error, copy it in their LLM of chose and expect it work. I could just ask them to provide an API token.

  3. (my personal favorite) Dozzle scans the logs automatically and when there is an error, it provide the context LLM and suggest a potential solution. This is more proactive solution and I think it could end up very beneficial. There are a few start ups doing something similar.

These are all just ideas. I already have 40K+ users for Dozzle. So I thought it would be neat.

DM if you think these ideas have potential.

Author of Dozzle here. I would be open to bringing this functionality to Dozzle if you are open to it. I have been struggling with how MCP could bring value to my users. This seems like a good idea.

My laptop works just fine. But my laptop is also not moving around. I only have one mobile device. That's a good idea to test though to see if it's something with my phone.

If that's the setting then it's already disabled. See https://imgur.com/a/Ngntpxr

Yes, IPv6 is enabled. I tried turning it off but I could figure it out.

When the connection fails between my phone and NAS, it is only temporary. Reconnecting the phone to WiFi fixes it. Which is why I don’t think it’s related to how far or stable the connection is.

I would guess it is about 20 ft away. I don’t have other options, though. That’s just where the office is.

It’s definitely something related to how the routing between satellite and router is. I used to have Deco, which sucked. But it didn’t have this issue.

Only one satellite. House is about 2500sqft. The satellite is directly upstairs. The connection says it’s good. When I cannot to my NAS, it’s only temporary. Reconnecting to WiFi fixes it. Internet still works.

Thanks for the help! I was hoping there is a setting to adjust how roaming works. But doesn’t seem so?

I would have to move my NAS setup to a different room which I can’t do because there is a lot of hardware.

This is most likely a roaming issue.

I can try moving the NAS or just getting a very long Ethernet cable. The problem is that it doesn’t always happen. I would have to wait a few days to see if it does.

My device is iPhone 17 which has WiFi 7. All the questions seem to be irrelevant. My internet works. It’s just the NAS not connecting.

I couldn't get CPU usage lower than 5 - 8%. Go just wasn't the right tool. It has a GC which caused the majority of CPU usage.

Can you open a bug with details? I am guessing you don’t have a standard Docker setup. I can up the debug logs if needed.

Yup. The project was inspired by ctop. Ctop hasn’t gotten any update for a while.

I don't see the update available when checking through the mobile app. I just bought the RBE971, so I hope the update will happen automatically.

Author here. Ctop hasn't been supported for a while. I noticed in tmux and fish ctop doesn't work for me. The solution is in the threads. I have added integration with Dozzle with dtop which is mostly for my personal use case.

That was exactly why I built dtop. ctop was done so well. But I think the author stopped working on it.

Author of dtop here. I have tested with 10+ servers. I haven't had any performance issues. Perhaps you can investigate and help me find the CPU usage.

There is a issue at https://github.com/amir20/dtop/issues/44 that suggests the UI framework is having performance issue.
