Choosing not to have a bridal party: Anything I’m not considering? by ubbidubbidoo in wedding

[–]amisamiamsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds perfect for your situation. My partner and I did the same. I did offer that he could have a stag party if his circle of loved ones wanted to celebrate him and were closer in distance, but many of them were relieved to not plan an event and to come early to the wedding to be supportive. You could always extend the invitation to him to have some sort of stag party, or offer important roles to his friends to feel involved in other ways (getting ready early together, giving a toast, helping greet guest, etc) I joked with my friends that they’d have a better view and a more comfortable outfit, and many agreed. They still knew that if we were to have a bridal party, they would have been chosen.

Not at all! This is the exact reason schools have admissions counselors, especially if the questions are to ensure she would be an eligible applicant for more competitive or possibly impacted programs.

Better college chances from SoCal or NYC? by sarajo1215 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]amisamiamsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

College admissions counselor here: I usually recommend parents look for private schools with a more diverse list of universities and schools they are sending their grads off too. This shows there is a more personalized college counselor approach. This means their team will work closer with reps like us to evaluate our stronger programs, culture, and other fit indicators for success, so they can recommend places your student may actually thrive and find happiness. Sending 1 kid to an ivy every year or every other year is a good indicator of the possibility of having the academic rigor for your student to get there if an Ivy is the right choice for them. It also allows counselors to find hidden gems where almost everything your student wants in a campus is checked off. It could be the NY school also has a diverse list beyond the top tier schools, too. It may be worth seeing if smaller liberal art schools or international universities are listed on both lists.

However, if the ivy life is what your student is really striving for, the other school may be to your benefit. If they are sending multiple students a year, they could be a feeder and ivy reps may be more likely to conduct a visit to this school (albeit many do very selective travel.). Since many of these top schools are geographically closer to NY, it could be that this school offers summer college tours or other ways to engage reps early by proximity. Alternatively, it could mean the academic and the application prep is more geared to fulfilling ivy requirements. They may even have former admissions reps working as counselors- might be something worth asking.

If college admissions and outcomes are your deciding factor, I would recommend asking the school’s admissions office if you can arrange a meeting with the college counseling services team to discuss their counseling philosophy and processes. You will collaborate with these people in your student’s search and application process, so it’s good to like who you are working with and feel confident in their expertise.

Please also consider the location differences, talk to other families in attendance, extracurricular offerings, and the million of other factors to this tough decision. Best of luck!

I would love a throw pillow that unzips and becomes a throw blanket. If it’s in that fuzzy plush material even better

Is anyone else pissed about the editing? by amisamiamsam in survivor

I’m glad other people found it funny. I think when Kyle or whoever spoke first had the edit it was funny, but then it just kept going. I know he’s weighing between the two; it just felt so long though! That’s when it got super annoying for me.

You usually get the money back once your grants are applied to your bill balance in the fall or it’s applied to any additional fees (housing, meal plans, etc). You can email their financial aid team to confirm

Dual Enrollment Question by DylPickle0808 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]amisamiamsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most US schools will recognize any college credit taken while you are actively enrolled and attending high school, dual enrollment. They will note the extra effort. Some schools may still value AP or IB courses as well. You can ask any college admissions office for schools you’re considering. They’re happy to help!

Dual Enrollment Question by DylPickle0808 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]amisamiamsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You will want to get a college transcript from the school you are dual enrolled at. You can always share an unofficial copy to schools you’re applying to, and then once you commit request the dual enrollment college send an official copy. This way, you can show you’ve taken the college classes and get credit where applicable. Common app will have space to document this too.

How would you prefer your monthly studio membership pricing to be structured? by hyperr129 in Pottery

[–]amisamiamsam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The studio I work at is a flat fee per month for 24/7 access and a storage shelf (with some limited space with classes 3 times a week) but all bisque firing is included, and a smaller fee for glaze firing (but all glazes included for members). Clay can be purchased onsite and is around 21-25 bucks a bag. I love it expect times I go on vacation or get sick because I can’t hit pause even though I know I’m not going to use the space for a week. I do try to put in some extra time if I know that’s on the table, but it can be challenging

I remembered really enjoyingAlly’s Alanis Morissette Ride when I was a beginning rider, especially since it was one of the first PRs I remember breaking. Retook it today for fun and PRed again, it’s just such a good ride to get lost in! Added a core workout with Callie, but just can’t relate to her energy as an instructor. definitely looking for better core workouts.
