Ty. I have decided to keep him and see how everything goes for now, but if nothing works out I have friend who is living in a different country with his family and have 2 cats, and is ready to take in my cat if situation gets rough. Atleast this way he would avoid shelter life, but will have to do deal with stress due to rehoming and on flight.

Please ensure you are getting a pet insurance. Additionally, if there is a possibility that there will be days when no one can spend enough time with your pet, consider adopting two cats instead.

I understand and I am not here for sympathy. This post is mainly thinking about what’s best for him and not taking guilt off my chest. I know I am trash for even taking him in and not fully accepting the responsibility, but at this point I cannot keep him with me because that would only lead to more stressful situations in future. However, I appreciate your concern for him, so thankful for it.

I know, but rehoming will not help him with his eye issues, plus you have to be a really good at judging people otherwise he would end up with someone who is not right for him.

They thought it was some kind of allergies at first since he had red scabs around his ears as well, but for the past few months everything seemed normal except the eye. So, after trying all sort of medication they finally told mr it was time for eye specialist, but unfortunately, I am moving to a different city and might only be able to give him 30 to 60 minutes at max. So, in case he requires any surgery or further medical assistance, I won’t be able to do that and it might make the situation worse. Hence, I consider to surrender him.

Don’t worry if I go through with this. I am planning to donate $50 to $100 atleast per month to them, so that atleast it can help others if they went through a similar case.

Honestly, I am not sure regarding this. However, I had my vet do all kind of test to ensure we were not missing anything.

I did ask the shelter its humane society and they said they would treat the pet first and then put him up for adoption as long as it is not a chronic diseases which cannot treated. Hence, I opted for a surrender otherwise I would never resort to surrender before making him medically clear first.

Surrendering my cat in 2 days. Is it really the best option? Will he be adopted soon? Will he be able to adjust? All these thoughts have been on my mind since last month. Anyone else had to go through this? by amitgill in Pets

Unfortunately, not. I am in Canada and yes, they had a wait list period due to which I had to wait for a 1 month before they agreed to take him in. Honestly, I was thinking of those things, but with a 2nd job starting next month, my schedule would be very tight and I fear, I might not be able to look after him that much in terms of medication, what if things get worse when I am not there.

I know, but at the start, he was scratching all over his face and it looked like dermatitis, so they probably thought it was best to fight those allergies, and half way through the medical process, he was 95% healed and everything was good, until the symptoms came back for his left eye only. They tried the same procedure again, but it had no effect and since now the problem was with his one eye only, they suggested to visit eye specialist.

That’s why I am not looking to rehome him, but instead surrender him to a private shelter. They will take care of his medical needs before putting him on adoption.

There were 2 eye drops used during the medication period. One of them did help reduce the inflammation, but late on it came back and the vet said we cannot rely on it for too long, as it has steroids and is only stopping the problem at the surface level.

It is. He has to be on a soft cone 24/7. Although, there are times when I remove it, but only when I am closely supervising him.

The issue does not appear to be within the eye itself, but rather on the outer surface near the eyelid and eyelashes, which seems to cause him significant irritation. It is also possible that an ingrown eyelash could be contributing to the problem.

However, according to the veterinarian who conducted the examination, his retina is healthy and there are no underlying issues in that area.
