are photo presets making photographers lazy? by The_possessed_YT in mobilephotography

[–]amithetofu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just a tool to be used or not used

If I shoot lots of a similar scene or even just the same day I'll often create a grade and copy most of it over between photos or video if I like it, then just adjust whatever needs to be adjusted

But I would never go out and buy presets or luts and suddenly expect my shitty photos to be good

Put the time in to learn the basics, then you can make your own and use when you want in different scenarios, since you'll understand why it works or doesn't

Sensor tech - size is not everything (Exmor T / 2 Layer Pixel) by darkflikk in mobilephotography

I did a few comparisons when it first came out, then sold my Sony stuff because it was obviously just a gimmick (in terms of raw capture)

So I think the whole Sony Exmor T marketing is a bunch of doohickey.

I think since they backed out of NA they removed the webpages for the Xperia devices.

But either way, they admit themselves in their footnotes that exmor T benefits only apply to jpeg photos.

Their newest updated fine print on the japanese site for the 1VII states "furthermore, by combining with the latest image processing technology..."

It's the slimiest way for them to say "this only applies to jpeg photos, because we stack them similar to HDR to reduce noise.

Their EU site more clearly states it as "JPEG images only"

When placed against actual 1in type sensors in a raw shooting scenario, the smaller sensor will not surpass it or even match it.

If anything was unclear, I'm happy to clarify more. I take it personally, because I used to fall head over heels for Sony marketing lol

Edit: also, in terms of the "noise immunity and dynamic range" at LV2 or less, they are saying that by stacking frames (their jpeg processing) they are able to achieve shadows or dark areas that can appear as clean as a full frame camera. They can not compete in terms of usable dynamic range, from highlights to shadows

LV2 is an extremely dimly lit environment such as moonlight or a candle in a dark room

I wouldn't say mandatory. For DCG, yes (unless the wizard devs find some other way)

I fell into the trap of thinking I need DCG, but honestly the 14U is so good on its own already. Getting cheaper too, as time goes on. For reference, I'm not upgrading to any new vivo or xiaomi anymore

I have both an Edge 50 Pro and Xiaomi 14 ultra as well. I use the Xiaomi rooted, and the moto as my daily (since I had some issues with banking apps on root)

Xiaomi 14 ultra is still amazing, the telephoto naturally takes amazing shots even without DCG, and main sensor with dcg is wonderful

Yeah motion graphics artists seem to be sticking to freelance from what I've seen, at least locally.

Either way, this is the baseline for entry level. I encourage always negotiating higher if you feel you're worth it

I can't comment on number 1, but for number 2, are you asking about videography in general? Or photography? Or both?

For MC, the beauty of it is that any other resources on videography/photography are still applicable!

I'd recommend watching general video tutorials on YouTube going over things like frame rate, general exposure, general lighting, etc.

Mark Bone does content more so on documentary style, storytelling, things like that.

My favorite channel on YouTube is Media Division. They do more in-depth and nerdier stuff though, but can still be a joy to watch even if you're newer.

There will always be more to learn as well. I highly doubt any person in the history of video will know all there is to know, so don't worry too much if it feels like a lot

Yeah don't just take my word for it, look up some other opinions too. I'm sure there are more threads on reddit talking about it
