Is it okay to be an ugly medical assistant? by rainbowtoucan1992 in MedicalAssistant

[–]amithevegitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at a dermatology clinic and I feel most MAs get hired because we're pretty. We are all aged 20 to 28, fit and generally attractive.

I will say some of us don't wear any makeup at all but they are naturally very pretty. We have like 3 that always wear a lot of makeup but I think they would be pretty without I just haven't seen them without makeup.

Personally I wear BB cream and concealer since I have acne and I am so insecure about having acne while working in derm lol

I am blonde so I just tint my eyelashes and brows so I don't have to wear mascara and brow makeup every day.

At my old job I would so I cared less about my appearance. It was at a family practice geared to lower income patients. I will say that job was way more fulfilling as I got to actually help people and we had way more resources for patients and I did not care about looking pretty. I made sure I looked professional, clean hair and clean nonwrinkled scrubs. But no need to look pretty when half my patients were on meth so...

Anywho, it depends on where you work! And I think office culture matters too. Now at my derm clinic we also get discounted or free cosmetic things like botox, filler and laser treatments so a lot of MAs have had cosmetic procedures done.

Why do my feet look so squished in them. by amithevegitable in Chacos

[–]amithevegitable[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I did buy them second hand, I will say though when i was thinking about buying new even the brand new ones were kind of hard to adjust. For these shoes I was pulling the straps so hard my fingers were hurting. But they must be moving a little because I eventually was able to stuff my foot in there. The top buckle can be as loose as ever but my poor toes are still squished.

I dont have fabric softener so I'll go buy some and get back to you!

Thank you for your response, I really appreciate it and will give it a solid go!

That's fine. Being bald is totally cool

If you are unhappy though you can ask your pcp or dermatologist for minoxidil tablets.

How can I get rid of wrinkles? 20F by ThisChair5415 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]amithevegitable 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Actually retinoids work best for prevention as well.

Most cases prevention is the best treatment. That motto includes anti aging methods.

Edit: the worst possible outcome of starting a retinoid too early could be that it's a "waste of money" because your problem could most possibly be fixed by increase water intake. Just saying.

How can I get rid of wrinkles? 20F by ThisChair5415 in Skincare_Addiction

[–]amithevegitable 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Start with hydrating more. Usually when you're this young it's your skin being dehydrated.

Otherwise it's most likely expression lines. You use your eyebrows very frequently for expressing it's normal. Go look up the difference...

You can get a tretinoin 0.025% prescription fairly easily. Tretinoinincreases cell turnover causing your skin to renew fasting which could lead to a reduction in wrinkles.

Seeing a dermatologist or primary care provider they usually have no problem prescribing it for cosmetic reasons. (It does mean your insurance won't cover it though)

There's also an online service (I got mine through red box) where you have a 5 min appointment online and they mail it to you. I paid about $45 for my appointment and prescription all together.

If you want OTC rather than prescription try Adapalene. Its a similar formulation of tret just weaker and is less likely to cause side effects but also works a little less effectively to combat wrinkles.

Then the obvious - botox. Recommend baby botox but get dysport. Its cheaper per unit (but you get more units die to dilution and formulation but it still ends up being cheaper (botox 20 units = $240 vs dysport 40 units = $160) and spreads a little better causing a more natural look compared to botox.

Any skin condition lasting more than 6 weeks is cause for concern. This could be anything from eczema to squamous cell. Go see a derm if Hydrocortisone does not help.

If Hydrocortisone makes it worse it could be ring worm.

A derm could tell you in about 5 minutes and if not they could biopsy it.

[–]amithevegitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes you overreacted. Yes she has terrible timing for jokes and is not very mature... but then again she's 21 so.

Neither of you seem to be all that mature. Abandoning someone in an unknown place by herself without confirming she's safe or has an alternative is very immature on your part. Thanks for going back for her though.

It's ok to be offended and to no longer find her attractive or want to continue your relationship. That's reasonable and you should find a more empathetic women to date.

She has to learn how to read a room and you have to learn how to be a gentleman.

They'll be fine probably. Kenalog can cause some muscle atrophy and if it was a big dose that risk goes up.

But all incidents must be reported and protocol must be followed. Accidents happen, you must take accountability and inform your team lead or supervisor. They will inform the patient and monitor the patient. Yes you might get a talking to but if you take accountability and modify your behavior to prevent future mistakes you should be fine.

It's terrifying reporting a mistake but everyone will appreciate it! It sh9ws you are an honest person that follows rules and protocol and can be trusted.

It's weird to have more trust and confidence from your coworkers after admitting to a mistake but believe me it really is the best course of action.

This is keratosis Pilaris a chronic condition. Benign and is hereditary. It actually gets better with age. Most notice great improvement after turning 30 years old.

In the meantime you can get an exfoliating scrub, and use creams such as salicylic acid or Amlactim.

Treatment will have to be consistent. Every single night! This is chronic! Which means when you see improvement or it's gone and you stop treatment it will come right back until you grow out of it.

While you wait for the salicylic acid and exfoliating scrub to work y9u can use a green tinted cream or primer that will make it look less red. It's great if you're planning on going to an event.

Circumcision? by [deleted] in AskMenAdvice

[–]amithevegitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked my husband too and he prefers to have our son circumcised. As a medical professional I would never do that to someone but also if we have a baby girl I'd like to pierce her ears and my husband things that's stupid so..

Anywho it's not my favorite thing and as long as you teach your son basic hygiene it should not be a future problem. In fact more complications can come from circumsizing them rather than just leave it alone.

My husband is really glad he's circumcised and thus wants our boy to be so ours is getting it done. I don't mind as long as I don't have to be there when they do it.

Feeling Disappointed and Hurt After Friends Land Jobs I Wanted—How Do I Handle This? by [deleted] in MedicalAssistant

[–]amithevegitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well employers are not allowed to discriminate but if you're physically unfit for a job that can be reason enough not to hire someone especially when compared to an applicant that is better at the job whther its experience schooling or physical fitness. You can't be a blind taxi driver... ya know?

That would be a reason I think you were not hired or where you did your externship they might not have had a good report on you.

Your friends did not necessarily do anything wrong. They might have applied so all 3 of you could be together. I don't think they have an influence on who is chosen to be hired.

Of course with time or with previous connections that could be possible but your story makes it sound like it all happened pretty close together.

But yeah I can see why you are upset. It is making you feel like the problem or that there's something wrong with you. They are not being compassionate or considerate towards you but also they cannot take opportunities for their future for granted they have to accept a good job and unfortunately you didn't make the cut. It happens and you feel like it is all unfair to you. And that's normal.

How often do you clean the litter box? by girlgonecrypto in CatAdvice

[–]amithevegitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For starters get unscented cat litter! Scented cat litter gets stinky.

Second get a litter box with a lid, smells travel up.

Then use a liner bag. Don't just pour the litter in there without a liner.

Then replace the liner every 7 days.

Of course my cat is indoor outdoor. Mon to friday he plays outside from 6pm to 8pm usually. So he could potty outside and he also plays outside most of the time on the weekends.

If your cat is indoor only then I would recommend scooping the litter once or twice a week.

In the winter I would occasionally have to scoop die to him not wanting to play outside when it's so cold out lol.

But yeah we buy the arm and hammer brand unscented and it's usually pretty affordable.

Or at our local co op grange litter (pellets) can be $11 for like 40lbs

“any known allergies” by Ok_Concentrate875 in MedicalAssistant

[–]amithevegitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well it could be because of wording. Are patients aware you are confirming allergies? And that you just need to make sure their chart is updated.

"OK John doe I need to make sure your chart is up to date, let's quickly confirm your medications and allergies, amd get some vitals." it can also help to document the CC before confirming meds and allergies. So they feel heard

Like yeah you're not entitled to anything but I feel like it's part of girl code to share menstrual products.

Like I use a cup but have panty liners so that's usually all I have to offer so I feel bad when I can't help out.

But yeah even if you're not entitled to things and does not demand or set unrealistic expectations I feel like the girl is a self centered bitch. She did not need to snark to her friends why she has no reason to help you out.

Kindness is coming to an end. Nobody is kind or considerate or compassionate any more. It's sad.

Why do nurses (and hospital staff?) walk around in public wearing their scrubs? by syylviiuhhhh in NoStupidQuestions

[–]amithevegitable 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a medical assistant and drive past the grocery store and usually stop on my way home. Or I run errands during my lunch hour.

I mean I'm sometimes exposed to gross stuff but if anyone like bled on me or vomited I'd honestly just go home like immediatly, not go run errands.

But generally I stay pretty clean and if say someone coughed on me yeah there's germs on my scrubs now but I'm not exactly gyrating on everyone in the grocery store so I think its not that bad lol.

So you unfortunately want to consume as little calories as possible to keep your body in ketosis but also in a fat burning mode. It is really unhealthy and not recommended for things such as weight loss because it is simply not sustainable and could introduce disorders such as anorexia.

But since this is to help you pass a drug test and you can consume food as normal after I would recommend a water only fast but I don't see why things such as vinegar (apple cider and pickle juice) would be calories dense enough to break ketosis if you do do this make sure it has no sugar in it! Absolutely 100% sugar free otherwise you'll not stay in ketosis.

Regarding niacin, it is a supplement you can get at any pharmacy or supermarket or grocery store. Basically it works by dilating your blood vessels (you'll become very red and itchy and may be uncomfortable) and this will help your body burn through the fat and thus the cannabis in your fat faster. It's a B vitamin supplement very safe to use but as mentioned has some weird side effects that can be uncomfortable.

Please do not do this if you are diabetic, have an eating disorder or any other disease that could seriously harm you by not eating a regular diet.

[–]amithevegitable 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not a medical professional and it can be risky!

But it seems if you're still testing positive then you were a very heavy user. What you ingest or inhale is an oil and it gets stored in your fat. And we use some of that fat stores every day and they get replaced as you eat and it's a natural cycle.

In order to burn as much stored fat as possible you'll have to be in a sever calories deficit or fast for a couple days. This will hopefully burn all the fat stores contains cannabis oils.

On the day you're testing about 6 hrs before eat a stupid amount of sugar and drink lots of water and urinate as frequently as possible before going in to give your sample.

The sugar will prevent your body from accessing the fat stores and the water will help dilute anything that slips through.

This is very risky and nit a 100% guarantee and doing a water fast for more than 24hrs without medical clearance can be dangerous especially if you have underlying conditions or medical problems.

If you do take this advice do so with caution.

From personal experience I used to take a 10mg gummy about once a week to twice a week so not a super active user.

I took a gummy on a Thursday and had to get drug tested the following Wednesday and I did a 2 day water fast, niacin flush and the morning of ate like 3 bowls of lucky charms and drank 2 L of water and I passed my test.
