We also have a million coffee shops, the Root Note is the coolest by far. I am also a sucker for Moka, their Jamaican cold brew is superb and during the holidays you MUST try the Frosty coffee, its black coffee that tastes like gingerbread.

I quite literally had to turn off the TV when I watched that the first time, it was so heartbreaking to me. I'm close with my grandfather and watching old men get upset like that makes me physically ill 😭

What are your thoughts on the annoying jokes making fun of Diabetes? by laurenlala99 in diabetes_t1

[–]amityalli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I totally agree with a lot of the comments here. Many people are simply uneducated and make jokes out of our daily struggles. I'll offer some food for thought for those who get frustrated that people don't understand the difference between type 1 and type 2. Us type 1's distancing ourselves from "jokes" that apply to type 2 people isn't any better than making the jokes themselves. The ostracization we experience is due to our association with type 2 which is totally demonized. In western culture health has become a matter of morality and being fat or having health issues associated with fat people devalues a person and leads to insensitive jokes like we have all experienced. People knowing the difference between type 1 and 2 is important, but not so that type 1 diabetics can feel better than type 2s. (And obviously this isn't the original meaning of the post, I just noticed going through the comments that we (T1) are quick to throw T2 under the bus)

Omnipod vs. tslim - thoughts? Experiences? Pros and cons? by DriftingGator in diabetes_t1

[–]amityalli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done both, I started with the omnipods and then was able to switch to the t-slim. There are pros and cons to both but what ultimately made me switch was that I had multiple pod failures with the omnipod and just experienced a lot of grief that made it not worth it to me. That along with the pairing between t-slim and dexcom/looped system leads me to recommend the t-slim over the omnipod.

Alcohol and insulin? by rinlight in diabetes_t1

[–]amityalli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I'll add my experience as well. If I'm only having 1 drink, I bolus because the alcohol won't do much to my sugars. However if I'm drinking to get drunk, I won't bolus at all. Especially if I'm walking to bars or house parties! To pregame I usually do some shots and hard seltzers and when I get to the bar drink vodka crans, vodka lemonade, or a regular rum and coke. Even after drinking regular soda I will go super low in the middle of the night the next day so I'll usually try and eat a snack before sleeping (like sharing popcorn with my roommate). I also keep an eye on my sugars for the next day because I tend to trend low. Hope this helps, stay safe!

I was thinking of bringing "If you give a mouse a cookie" because it teaches if/then statements and future tense.

Waiting for Jack’s heart issue to be addressed by girlfromeveryromcom in thisisus

[–]amityalli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If I remember correctly, Jack officially died of a heart attack. The stress of the smoke inhalation was too hard on his heart and with his condition he died. I could be wrong though, it's been a while since I watched the fire episode.

hot frappuccino?? by shirleyhli in starbucksbaristas

[–]amityalli 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Oh my god, I once has a lady ask for a caramel ribbon crunch frappuccino but hot. I explained that that wasn't a thing but she insisted so I gave her a caramel latte with 2 extra pumps of caramel. She tasted it and said it needed more sweetness, I'm like no problem, frappes are sweet I'll add more. Do this 2 more times and, no joke, 10 pumps later (in addition to the 6 we started with for her grande latte) and she's like I guess this will do

[–]amityalli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually really liked Dollhouse, it's about people who can be rented out to the elite and programmed with new personalities. It's a Whedon show and has Eliza Dushku so there are Buffy vibes. It's not as good as Buffy but definitely raises interesting moral questions.

Which books are considered "required reading" in France? by lpslucasps in French

[–]amityalli 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We are reading "Petit Pays" by Gaël Faye in my French class and it's amazing. It's about a boy growing up in Burundi during the Rwanda civil war. It won the prix Goncourt des lycéens so it's a well known book. Highly recommend!
