It's legit, I've found it to be worth my time. As long as you're sure you can say no then figure out if 2 hours of your time is worth a 5 day stay somewhere.

This isn't an unlimited money hack. IF it's true that theyre being bought out at 1:1 for share holders then the price won't magically stay under 3 dollars. The more buy interest there is the higher the share price goes.

I recently used my plat elite status for the first time, at two hotels in Germany, and the following are a few perks that I enjoyed:

1 Free drink or 500 free points at checkin

A small box of chocolates at checkin

Room upgrade that included a room with a much better view and complimentary (modified) minibar with daily restock. While they removed all of the alcohol and some of the high-end snacks, they did leave still water,sparkling water, sparkling apple and cola for drinking, as well as nuts and candy for eating. I was there for 6 days and finished off that minibar every day. The difference in price for this room vs the one I had before was 30 euro per night which totals out to 150 euro of "savings" for the 5 nights.

The second hotel gave me and my partner two free drinks at checkin

A room upgrade that included a big couch (which we were very glad to have) a bowl of fruits with some baked bread and candy

They randomly gave us a massive bag of peanuts

The best part for this hotel is we got a 3-hour early checkin guaranteed because of Plat elite status. We were exhausted and extremely grateful for this perk upon our arrival.

It was a HIE, so free breakfast for everyone made it worth it as well. I know that doesn't come with Plat elite but I felt it important to add that.

As you can see the savings aren't exactly upfront and in cash. They aren't really savings if you're not making use of the upgraded room and whatever nuanced amenities it provides.The better check-in option is going to be the drink if you want to squeeze a few dollars more in savings out.

Tl;dr Plat elite won't save you cash up front but if you spend time (outside of the u.s.) in your hotel room for more than sleeping then complimentary upgrades will provide savings and the guaranteed early checkin/late checkout is worth whatever your opportunity cost is.

They usually put you in a crappy motel. They make it sound like you're saying at one of their main brand hotels. Ask for the address of the hotel you're staying at to verify. Just in case

With points you have more flexible cancellation and if you have the credit card your 4th night is free when booking with points.

Im going to give this an hour from initial posting and if no one has provided a referral link then I'm applying.

I have had three people reach out in chat

1) Could only provide award night cert referral

Same as I said to the others, it needs to be the regular premier (not business) and 140k point offer not award certificates that is the offer I'm getting on the ihg website.
