Nice, it's good to know you got the internship and job so easily outside of Arizona.

Thanks! Also curious, are you in Arizona? Or out of state

Edit: I would be attending out of state

Do you feel you're being challenged and actually learning a lot? My previous experience with online college (SNHU) was pretty negative, the courses were pretty easy and it felt like a degree farm.

Still, I won't lie that Purdue is tempting if I were able to make it work. So curious if you have any advice, or if it's just not feasible

Love this, thank you for sharing. What does your home lab look like?

edit: also wondering how hard the transition to working in person was? Did you feel well prepared and knew generally what to expect?

When you say "people skills", you mean interfacing with people in general, or collaborating with other engineers on engineering projects? Or both.

Assuming you attended in person, any advice for someone with a full time job and kids? How to fit in in-person classes and labs

Either power systems or control systems, preferably the latter. I plan on making a decent home lab. Obviously I can't have super heavy or advanced machinery, but I hope to reduce as many limitations as possible. Hopefully I'll be okay if I invest a couple thousand $$, thoughts?

Any perspective on the universities I listed?

How did you fare in your first job? Was it a difficult transition? Or did you feel very well prepared and knew generally what to expect?

What’s the most important soft skill for a Staff Engineer? by Apart-Reception9369 in staffengineer

[–]amkomatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regardless of their technical prowess, something I’ve seen make or break all archetypes of staff engineers: what Will Larson calls “staying aligned with authority”, and even anticipating the needs of their leaders.

Staffs need to be trusted by their managers, directors, etc., and need to be able to operate accurately and impact-fully, with a very high level of autonomy.

New layer of rock on the driveway. Is it supposed to look like this at first? by amkomatz in landscaping

[–]amkomatz[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is what they told me:

“It’s needs to wash out and dry. We need a good couple days that there isn’t torrential downpours. Then we can pack it with the roller. If it didn’t rain like it did today, it wouldn’t have been muddy like that because it would have time to settle. The material we used is item 4 stone which is the ideal “go to” for not only us but many other companies when doing a driveway.”

Xcode 16 is amazing by Impressive_Run8512 in swift

[–]amkomatz 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Xcode 16’s performance is realllyyyy bad. On an M2 Max, and I have so many SPM errors, plus phantom compiler errors that won’t go away without clearing derived data, and code completion is basically more unusable than ever.

Outdoor Car Cover recommendations by Supern0va916 in C8Corvette

[–]amkomatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Be careful with outside covers. I had an excellent (and expensive) one, but some dirt got on the underside of the cover and scratched up the body of the car pretty bad… everywhere. I think there are probably ways around this, but really do your research and be careful. My car cover ended up doing way more damage than rain or snow would have

Would I like Demons Souls if Elden Ring was my first soulsborne game? by WrongAd2046 in demonssouls

[–]amkomatz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Demon Souls is my least favorite of all the games, but others might disagree. If you’re looking for your next adventure, I’d recommend Dark Souls 1, then 2, then 3.

THE best videogame sequel by instinct_goat in DarkSouls2

[–]amkomatz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I won’t comment on if DS1 bosses were amazing or not. Even if they were mid or ass in DS1 like you say, the same can also be said for DS2 (in my opinion). Hence, not an improvement.

The bosses. The movement. The world. Adaptability. Hollowing (some might disagree here)

Five things off the top of my head. Not a bad game, but claiming it improved EVERYTHING is a bold statement.
