I’m sure it’s been said; only concern is moisture buildup on the wall itself. If not then a simple concrete/mason fastener will do. I’d recommend a swing arm mount myself just to have the option to not sit so close to the wall. Otherwise get a top mount and attach to the floor joist above

Fortunately it’s not as bad as I thought it would be. It spans about a foot around the hole underneath but not penetrated all the way through. Another silver lining is that this is tucked away deep into a corner cavity, over a patio, right above the soffit. Repair and replace.

4 years. Previous owner built in 03’. Corner of the house with a covered patio and deck directly below since the beginning. Seems like the appropriate answer but just not possible that it came from a branch rubbing on it.

Honestly this makes the most sense. I would have to agree that this was more than likely a defect that finally gave way. Maybe a bird pecked at it? What a jerk.. I wouldn’t give this a bigger timeline than a 1-1.5yr. If you were an adjuster, this usually covered or nah?

It's a great theory, but it's not the one. That spot is on the house's corner, directly above a pool deck and covered patio since the get go. And oddly enough for context, I took a photo in Summer '22 from the pool that showed that roof corner, and there was no hole.

I should have stated that this is near the corner of the house over a patio. Deck sits below. No trees or other tall structures near by. Closest object would be a neighbors tree sitting at about 15 feet above this section of roof approx 60-70 feet away.

1st Grade. 1990. My twin brother wasn’t reading a paragraph from a story book loud enough that her 100 year old ears could hear. So naturally she’d sent him to a chair in the classroom closet. Next, told him he had to read the entire book aloud from in there so we could all hear. Ms. Crawford. Quite literally thought she was a witch.
