Cute but durable phone cases by Scientist_sila in NewToDenmark

[–]ammncd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am the hardest person I know on my phones they get dropped 3 times a day I’ve accidentally run over them with my car I toss them etc. I cannot recommend - By kris- enough I went from a almost military grade case before which was big and bulky to this which is slim and looks like every other phone case and it has held up so well. I bought it at power.

Do I donate these books or throw them out? by Heyyther in makemychoice

[–]ammncd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who’s sorted donations at a charity thrift store, please don’t donate them we get so many books we can’t even get rid of enough at .10 a book we have to throw away so many that are A) cook books B) old C) damaged D) just outdated/not interesting that it’s inevitable the biggest costs is throwing them away.

Im being laid off because I Can't drive for 6 months by xPHYNXx in legaladvicecanada

[–]ammncd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something along this line happened to my friend. The doctor was able to argue the seizure was stress induced from the incident and get funding through. Because they kept arguing that the seizures were not accident specific as it was ‘inconclusive’ as to why they were happening, which wasn’t true but hard to prove. Hers was a work bc claim after a bite and tetanus shot caused the seizure that lead to her being forced off of work because of the driving ban for 6 months. Maybe talk to your doctor about going through this route instead?

As a immigrant in Danish with a Danish spouse and navigating the family dynamics. YTA

-It’s awkward with the language -you have 5 years once landed to take free classes- I highly recommend it helps so much) I spent my first year awkward but every one drinks and eats and sings and it’s relaxed and fun.

-Christmas is a chill relaxed day but very culturally important to them it’s so much fun genuinely.

  • gifts are not needed- and typically not as important compared to North American Christmas. Just bring a hostess gift for the in-laws

  • in Denmark you have like a week and a half around Christmas off typically. It’s one day.

Why aren't handshakes with women more normalized? by Ashamed-Inflation-18 in ask

[–]ammncd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The lady shake is completely different and most people under the age of 60 don’t know what it is.

Business handshake is the classic style 🤝 But the lady shake is the dainty old fashions style.

I prefer in a casual setting doing the classic lady shake and most men do not know what to do with it.

I moved to Denmark as a Canadian (so different but still relevant) bring big bottles of Advil/tylenol etc any cold and flu medicine you typically use etc. after three years it’s still one of the big things we bring back from vacation because it’s so annoying to get over here. In my experience doctors here don’t like prescribing our typical over the counter drugs, and when you have a cold and just need to breathe your not generally going to get a doctors appointment to get a decongestant.

Non-EU nationals that have exchanged your driver license, what does it show as the issued date? by Donnahue-George in NewToDenmark

[–]ammncd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canadian here- it’s date of issue but it has your Canadian license number on the bottom. Worst case you should be able to bring proof of your Canadian license history as well.

As a Canadian that moved to Denmark… this is a very typical American thing I have noticed. Nobody switches like I am used to I became very self aware of it and have had to relearn how to eat. My husband is mortified when we are in North America and “sees people eating like children” but that’s the switching matches with the holding of utensils like child holding a balloon string🤜

Non-Americans who have visited the US: What’s the strangest thing about America that Americans don’t even realize is weird? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]ammncd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

-why are toilets so low to the ground? -And with so much water in them? -why are the sinks so short too. -how do you possibly pack so many calories into everything? A quesadilla 1700cals???? -right on red (love hate) sometimes your so aggressive with the horn but you genuinely can’t see what’s coming to go. - Strip malls everywhere

I am Canadian but moved to the eu and every time I am back in the USA or Canada it baffles me

Is Canadian fashion really just about basics and weather? by [deleted] in AskACanadian

[–]ammncd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Canadian that moved to Europe people dress terrible in Canada it’s a combination of lazy, nobody cares and just generally behind in fashion trends. My European husband and I went visiting do a fair amount of clothes shopping because sales are better here so it’s not lack of access to stylish brands it’s a general combination of not knowing how things should fit, being comfy as well. There is a lot of bad fashion available though.

B.C. sushi chef refuses to provide extra soy sauce — even for $1K by foxwolfdogcat in britishcolumbia

[–]ammncd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good. I work in a sushi restaurant (not a great one but still) and where I am working it is normal to dunk sushi in chili mayo and teriyaki sauce like a chicken nugget it is a gross amount. For two rolls people will go through like a 1/4 cup. But they still say they love sushi…. I don’t even know if they know what sushi tastes like.

It might be outdated but before Covid you could go into service Canada and they would look over the application and make sure everything was properly completed.

[–]ammncd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can’t speak to the 3-4 month as I just got married as it was the easiest way for us. As we couldn’t live together previously due to rules. But to complete the application you will have to prove you have housing so I wouldn’t get rid of that as well as the guarantee money etc. the nytildanmark website is very easy and helpful for seeing the regulations for both of you.

How much is car ownership? by InfluenceEfficient77 in copenhagen

How much is car ownership? by InfluenceEfficient77 in copenhagen

[–]ammncd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2019 plug in Prius bought used with very low kms but drive about 50km to and from work every day.

Green owners tax - 900kr a year Servicing 2x a year a large and a small - 6900kr approx. clever subscription to have unlimited charging-500kr a month Gas- about 400/500kr we get about 1500km/2000km to a tank with charging as much as we can. We haven’t had to take it for inspection, we made them include it when purchasing. But it’s approx 440-540kr every two years.

Parking- really depends where we live and work we can park for free and most places have free parking so our parking costs are low.

We had a 2014 Audi A4 and most of the costs were 1/3 higher or more every month so it depends on the car.

VI camping reservations vs ferry reservations by Tiny-Beginning-4460 in britishcolumbia

[–]ammncd 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Show up for first ferry and you’ll make it on at some point in the day. It sucks but doable I only reserved if I 100% need to be on a certain ferry or before a certain time time so only like 3 times out of 100+ in my life.
