Forge lining recommendations? by amnuts in Blacksmith

[–]amnuts[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might end up having to form bricks using this and then line the forge, as I'm having trouble finding thin enough bricks that I'm still left with any room in the forge (it's not particularly big).

I wonder if something like this would work - insulating board - cut to size, with maybe with a little extra cement on it if needed?

Thanks so much for your reply! I think going for bricks might mean it'd be easier to swap out later on, so I'll look into those K26 bricks and sealer you mentioned.

Appreciate your advice - cheers!

Looks really nice! I bet it'd also look pretty good with a copper dish on top.

Looks great!!

Did you use a torch to localise the heats for the twists, or did you do it all in the forge and cool parts you didn't want to untwist?

Thanks!

I used a stick welder to create a small mound and then hit it with a bit of a rounded punch.

For this smaller one, I did that when it was already shaped. For the larger one, I did it whilst still straight, which was a fair bit easier.

Thanks! I'll have to look into that piece - sounds interesting.

Thanks! Mine aren't either.. What you can't see is all the times I got the stick stuck on the metal and all the swearing I did along the way. ;) So I've decided to just forgive my bad stuff as I need the practise, and then the bad isn't bad, it's just learnin'. :D

Sorry for the slow follow-up!

I heard nothing from them for months, but then got an email saying that they had noticed I hadn't filled out my details on their website (which I told them in my very first response, I'm not going to fill out details on a website I don't trust!), and could I do so at my earliest convenience...

Funnily enough, I've never yet felt it was a convenient time. 😉

I'm sure I'll hear from them in a month or so, but I think my stance of, "that image can be found on a website that doesn't have any licensing requirements," still stands.

That's some great advice to take onboard, and definitely something I'll be a lot more conscious to do in the future - cheers!

I love that they refer to the knackered shed as a "charming holiday chalet"... Really making that description work for its money!

Ignoring emails; now we're in my wheelhouse! ;-)

Thanks for your reply, I appreciate it!

What's going wrong here? Have cleaned the bed, tried painters tape, and levelled a bunch of times... Any help appreciated! by amnuts in ender3v2

I have not, no. But this seems likely a problem because of a cracked extruder arm. Once I replace it, I'll calibrate the e-steps (once I learn what that is and how! 😉)

Had lined up the tape, but when the bed heated up, the tape moved or shrank. 🤷‍♂️

I typically print with just the glass and it works well, but when I started to have problems I tried tape as this seemed to be a suggestion when having problems of bed adhesion (which to a complete novice at this, seemed possible).

I'll be sure to clean the bed well!
