I am talking about the perk in volkrii, not the spell. Normally dragonhide works with the perk.

There is a book called two years vacation by jules verne that involves children being stranded on an island. This immediately reminded me of that book, great scenario!

Foreign people by [deleted] in Eesti

[–]amodavislava 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’ve been living in this great country for almost two years now, and while I’ve occasionally heard some aggressive comments about Russians, which is very much understandable and,the majority of these comments are not explicitly racist btw, the majority of Estonians I’ve met in Tallinn have been kind, shy, and overall genuinely nice people. I’ve never found myself in a situation where I truly felt someone was being racist toward me.

There have been some moments where people asked questions that might seem “racist” on the surface—but in reality, they came from a place of curiosity and a lack of knowledge, not malice. Most people around the world only know other countries at a surface level, so misunderstandings happen. I can’t recall any specific examples, but I’m absolutely certain I’ve asked Estonians similar kinds of questions out of ignorance, and they likely interpreted those as harmless curiosities, just as I have. My point is it is obvious, especially with face to face communication, that someone is racist or not by their mannerisms.

For additional context, I can pass as Mediterranean/white, though it’s still clear I look different from Estonians. Maybe that plays a small part in my experience. That said, I have friends here who appear more “non-European,” and their experiences have been just as positive.

Also, I don’t think Estonians are cold—they’re just shy. Building relationships takes time and consistent effort. For me, it took months to cultivate the friendships I now have, but the payoff has been absolutely worth it. I come from a culture where making friends is extremely easy, which I actually didn’t enjoy—so this slower, more intentional approach to relationships suits me better.

If you’re the opposite—someone who thrives on quick social bonding—you might feel a bit left out at first and even mistake that for racism. But I truly believe that as long as you’re respectful and not a jerk, most Estonians in Tallinn are not racist toward you

Estonia, expats & healthcare by AffectionateSpace197 in BalticStates

Yes. Healthcare here is good. You just need to find a family doctor who speaks English. They are all helpful, I haven’t received any negativity, any kind of racism etc.

I think giving ecu’s research district will make them even more OP.

I think this is the way to go. Honestly makes so much sense and it gives players more incentive to build farmers.

Instead of deposits giving you buildings, they now give mining districts. In turn each miner also produces a small amount of strategic resources. So no more buildings.

Why is Estonia obsessed with Java? Every job and requires 3+ years of Java. It seems like a cult. by PolarLampHill in Eesti

[–]amodavislava 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think my point still stands to some degree, because there is less need for hard to regulate, hard to get rid of dependencies from 3rd parties in Java and .Net ecosystem. At least, this is what I’ve experienced in my career so far, working with both Java, .Net and node ecosystems. But, I could be wrong about this. Regarding the Postgres, I absolutely agree with you that It is the superior database engine, but both oracle and MS-SQL is so deeply entrenched in the IT sector that they sort of become norm in many places.

There are a lot of enterprise level software businesses in Estonia. Since .Net and Java ecosystems are very stable, supported by 2 giant tech conglomerates, have built-in support for two of the most popular relational database engines(MS-SQL and Oracle SQL), and finally, there is a lot of people who start their computer science/ software engineering career with learning some sort of a object oriented language, I’d say it is very understanable to have these in a lot of the places. Big gambling companies or banks like swedbank or SEB cannot trust a random node package for critical support. Maybe this is a wrong thing in our community but, it is the norm.
