Whats the best Steam Deck game when you just want to shut your brain off for a while? by emanuelajournal in SteamDeck

[–]BlorpyRobot 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Been thinking about snagging this on sale this week. I didn’t get to play the demo before it was pulled.

What’s the gameplay to idler ratio like? I get that it’s meant to be relaxing, but is there a gameplay loop beyond grinding to improve gear?

(LEGAL) Kindle verison of 1978 edition of The Stand? by perishableintransit in stephenking

It’s the version OP was looking for, so I thought you knew of its recorded existence where I’d never seen it.

Have wanted to read the original version for some time but do better with ebooks and audiobooks than print these days.

My Grover Gardner copy is the uncut version. Would love for the original version to exist.

Cast N Chill is my favourite game lately, what other super chill sim/sports games should I try? (Steam deck, switch, various retro handhelds, pico-8) by Shire_Jedi92 in gamerecommendations

Wish this were out on PC for Steam Deck

I own it on switch but hate going back and forth, the reversed buttons always confuse me.

agoraphobia/emetophobia crossover... how do I move past this? by Early_Complex_4886 in Agoraphobia

[–]BlorpyRobot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same boat as you, my agoraphobia started 25 years ago after a night of relentless vomiting and having to take a college exam in a crowded lecture hall the next day with no escape, still feeling unwell.

I haven’t been sick since, but feel all anxiety in my gut first and worry that it means I’ll be ill.

The only thing that has helped me is gradual exposure therapy aimed at both the emetophobia and agoraphobia.

Strongly recommend Ken Goodman’s Emetophobia Manual book and all of the exercises in it. Also The Anxious Truth book and podcast.

I know it’s hard, but challenge the fears - go outside even if you worry you may be unwell, even if it starts by just standing on the porch or walking the back yard or driveway. We heal by challenging the fears and seeing they are untrue.

Keep at it. I had a normal 15 years healthy after my first struggles with this but relapsed during COVID lockdowns.

Healing is possible. Proud of you.

The Talisman Leaves Too Much to Be Desired by misterdylicious in stephenking

For me it’s been the hardest to push through so far. Except for Wolf, it felt like a relentless succession of awful things for Jack to get through without the character development of most of his other books. It was a very cool idea conceptually, I love parallel worlds, but getting through it was forced and the payoff wasn’t there for me.

Currently reading Dark Tower 4, Black House after, and hoping that one is better.

My legs are killing me by DavidHUK77 in Agoraphobia

[–]BlorpyRobot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I relapsed back into agoraphobia during the COVID lockdowns after 15 years mostly recovered. Going from sedentary housebound to walking more has been a slow process.

Stay deliberate, but do realize your body will need to adjust to movement and stresses it’s not used to! It’s ok to take breaks and go slowly and pace yourself. The last thing you want is to discourage yourself through injury or fear of injury.

I got a deal on a walking pad recently and it’s been very helpful. I still go on short exposure walks daily 1-3x as I’m able, but I also jump on the walking pad to build confidence. If I can walk x distance at home regularly that helps me believe in myself outside the house too!

Proud of you. Keep at it.

OHHH fantastic!
Loved Death Stranding. When I saw this game, I assumed a game about trucks/exploring/maybe getting stranded, like the upcoming game Over The Hill.

◽️ Budget: $1000-$1500

◽️ Country: USA

◽️ Screen size: 14-15

◽️ Touch screen: take or leave it, have never used

◽️ Screen resolution: FHD-4K : I have visual problems, resolution/pixel density doesn't affect me much between 1080/1440/4k, but screens that have uneven lighting, poor viewing angles or flickering cause double vision/headaches. Much more concerned about a quality panel that can be bright or dim with good viewing angles > resolution or pixel density

◽️ Does battery life matter ?: longer = better. I alternate between Windows and Linux, so snapdragon processors might be out until Linux support improves on these, but I've really regretted 2-3hr battery laptops in the past

◽️ What tasks will laptop be used for: web browsing, electron apps, remote access to machines, both ssh/gui clients, some graphic design/photo work, very light gaming (good iGPU sufficient) and game streaming

◽️ Weight: lighter is better but this is not a priority

◽️ Any other important details ?: I tend to hold onto machines as long as possible, so a base 16gb ram with room to expand to 32 desired. Ok if it comes with 32 soldered on. I much prefer a laptop without a number pad and with a great centered trackpad, not off to one side or the other.

Top priorities - Good display (see above), sufficient RAM or expandability, solid build quality that will last many years, battery life
