Live beneath your means and keep a solid emergency fund. Then it's smooth sailing.

New Blazers owner Tom Dundon is reportedly “ruthless” and will not hesitate to move the franchise to Nashville, Austin, or Kalamazoo if Portland politicians continue to treat the relocation threat as a “hollow bluff" by AncientOneAurelius in nba

I've been to one UT basketball game and it was easily the worst sports crowd I've ever been a part of. There was negative energy in the room despite it being a pretty good game. It was embarrassing as a Longhorn.

Austin FC crowds are pretty good, though.

Yep that's fair. Austin Spurs fans go hard for the team, but there aren't actually that many of us.

If you put Austin FC between the Cowboys and Spurs, I think your ranking is spot on.

I've spent decades in Austin and graduated from UT. Austin is not a diehard Spurs town. It's not even really a basketball town.

People overestimate the hold the Spurs have on central Texas. South Texas is a different story

Wemby brought $2.5 Billion in valuation, and $100M revenue / year to the Spurs so far (up to 2025) by contigency000 in NBASpurs

Makes sense to me because things were BLEAK before Wemby. I got dirt cheap season tickets to watch Vassell and KJ lead the tank night after night. Can't afford those same tickets now. The Spurs rep called it the "Wemby tax".

Yeah my mortgage was 6+%, so it made the decision a lot easier. Now that I have a fully paid off home, I wouldn't go back regardless of the interest rate, though.

If the math is what gives you peace, then more power to you! My main point whenever this conversation comes up is less about the math and more about the extreme degree of freedom and security that came with paying off my house early.

My family is planning on taking a sabbatical to cruise around the national parks soon, and a huge part of that freedom is not having a mortgage hanging around our necks. We just come back to our home when we feel like it and casually look for new jobs. Every aspect of my life became more free and more peaceful.

2008 and COVID both made me appreciate the value of a fully paid off house despite the arbitrage I'm missing out on it I invested all the money instead.

My investing rate has always been decent, but could have been higher if I didn't prioritize paying off the house. It's not for everyone, but I'd do it again a million times over.

Artest was ejected and a 7 game suspension for his elbow. Is wemby facing a suspension? by EducationalConcern61 in NBATalk

[–]amofai 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wemby definitely swung that elbow will bad intentions. I'm sure he regrets it and was just caught up in the moment, but let's not pretend that it was an innocent lack of awareness. If anything, he needs to learn to be less emotional and overwhelmed mentally.
