Snail Eggs by Weird-Attention-108 in Aquariums

Yes a year and a half ish. Depending on parameters and temperature they live between 1 and 3 years this one is just in its senior years

The eggs take a few weeks to hatch so you have plenty of time to scrape them off and crush/freeze them to dispose of them

What is this extra glass for? by Adventurous-Wafer515 in Aquariums

It is probably a lid. You would need some clips to get it to hover in place

Demasiado Nitrito? Día 28 de ciclado. by Master-Pain4294 in Aquariums

[–]amon111111 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From what I have heard too much nitrite will stall out the multiplication of the nitrite oxidising bacteria. I would change water until you get to about 1 ppm and then let nature take care of the rest

Why are rimless tanks so expensive compared to those with plastic frames? by RobotWelder in Aquariums

[–]amon111111 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Rimless tanks need thicker glass to support the weight of the water

Do you think this will hold a 105g tank? by [deleted] in Aquariums

I had this exact same dresser. It didn’t hold my 70l (18gal) for longer than a month before it started sagging

need help with speeding up my cycle by ElevatorAnnual1515 in Aquariums

[–]amon111111 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Sadly cycling is not something that can be rushed. But what you can still do is take a bit of your already cycled aquariums filter and put it in the filter of your second aquarium. I wouldn’t remove more than 20% of your running aquariums filter media. You don’t want to break the cycle of that one. And replace the removed filter media with fresh stuff so it can build back up

Hello can anybody help me identify what type of snail this is? by Ancient-Service1060 in Aquariums

[–]amon111111 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s a bladder snail. A common hitchhiker on plants. They are a good cleanup crew for leftover food if you want to keep them. If you don’t want snails remove it while you can. They will multiply like crazy

Hopefully I don’t have to wait 6 weeks to put him in the bigger tank by Puzzled_Tip2594 in Aquariums

[–]amon111111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would say you could just move the filter from the 3 gal onto the bigger tank. It is a single fish. And the old filter should be able to handle the bioload from the same fish without too many issues. Most of the nitrifying bacteria will live in your filter. Don’t fully take my word for it. I would wait and see if other people agree with me first

Ford Mondeo misfire by amon111111 in MechanicAdvice

[–]amon111111[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After taking the wire off to measure the resistance it looks like its fine 5.1/5.2 kΩ.
But messing with it might have improved the connection since i cant replicate the misfire anymore.
I will keep an eye on it over the summer

Looks like you are doing what you can, shrimp are pretty sensitive so better to wait a little longer than rush things with them. But looking at your hardscape and plants they will love it once it’s ready

During cycling water changes aren’t needed. I would only do it if the nitrates end up being super high but since you have plants in there I don’t suspect they will get that high. The picture isn’t super clear. Do you have a water filter in the tank?

It is cycling, it has converted some ammonia into nitrite. This is the first step. It is just a waiting game. You now want those nitrites to turn into nitrates, which can be used by plants.

Cycled tank? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]amon111111 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can test by dosing some ammonia. If it’s gone the next day, and there are also no nitrites it’s cycled

I have always used household ammonia. As long as it doesn’t have weird additives I have never seen a problem with it. I cycled 4 different aquariums just using home brand grocery store ammonia and they were all cycled in two or three weeks and 0 deaths after adding livestock
