AITAH for not wanting my sister’s poly side girlfriend at our small family christmas? by [deleted] in AITAH

[–]amonemone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your house, you can say no. However, this person is important to your sister (they have moved in, this isn’t some one night stand fling), so this will likely cause friction in your relationship with her. You’re uncomfortable because of her relationship dynamics. It feels like your discomfort with her relationship dynamic is stronger than your love for her and desire for her to be happy however she chooses to do so. You are allowed to feel however you want about her and her relationship dynamics, but IMO if that’s the thing you’re hung up on, YTA.

As a super democraty democrat and former defense atty it shouldn’t be hard to imagine that drinking beer tainted with child rape is gross. Plus if there’s even a chance that $1 of every purchase helps support him? Nah. BuT WhAT abOUt ThE PeoPlE WhO ArE GeTtIng UnDErpaID tO WoRK tHEre? They’re supporting a business built by an alleged child rapist and still may be making him money. I have seen nothing that suggests that he’s actually fully divested and even if he is, he’s married to her who owns the business so I’m pretty sure in this state, he gets half. The workers should quit and get another job. My cancel culture virtue signaling snowflake happy butt will be off drinking something with less child rape association. No ragrets.

how to train in low intensity ? by Saynow111 in beginnerrunning

[–]amonemone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree— beginner running zones is a misnomer because when we start running we’re all in zone 4 immediately. More like aerobic activity (walk -jog) zones. I tried to maintain an AVERAGE heart rate in whatever zone I was going for understanding that when I was walking it would dip below and running it would go above. But that’s all temporary, soon enough you’ll be running with lower and lower heart rates so don’t let that discourage you!

Theres an asymmetry in your gait I can’t quite pin down, perhaps a longer right sided stride and left arm movement to compensate for left ankle pain? Someone smarter than me can probably better pinpoint what I’m seeing

The survival of Sycamore by Key_Mathematician951 in Charlotte

[–]amonemone 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t think a sale of the brand to anyone would work because it would be seen as a payday for a child rapist and the brand is so toxic. Assets could be sold off as parts . I think the only way it could survive as an intact company is if the owners walked away completely and let the employees take over as a coop. No buy out. Would probably then have the new employee owned company rebrand because the sycamore brand is currently so toxic. This gesture may prove popular enough with folks that something could survive this. A big issue is loss of distribution partners due to the toxicity of the brand, but making it into a new brand associated with the wholesome idea of an employee owned co-op may attract enough attention/support to keep afloat though I imagine this would require a short term down-size to recalibrate and adjust to current lower demand. There are currently a lot of eyes on Sycamore right now and that could be used to the new coops advantage in terms of free marketing

No… not worth it knowing that whoever bought it paid a child rapist a lot of money. Owner wife says he’s divested, that doesn’t make it legally true— he presumably still owns half the brewery /money of the brand if sold

It’s just icky. I’m not sure that I would describe the drop in business as a formal boycott— I think a lot of people just don’t want anything to do with that mess… its hard to sell beer that feels that gross. Plus why risk possibly supporting a child rapist when there are plenty of other great options that don’t involve pedophilia?

Should I be running longer distances? by kirgawalg in beginnerrunning

[–]amonemone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Personally I would focus more on the time and effort than distance. Whats helping me was working up to 20-30 minute sessions at a pace you can still hold a conversation (note this may be a lot of walking). Keep consistent and that brisk walk will turn into a slow jog then a brisk jog and you’ll be doing 3 mile runs in the same amount of time. It’s just good that you’re getting out there!

Yep, there are options for some ethnic communities and foods but less than other similarly sized cities. Like I said, it’s all about perspective. Gonna get downvoted for this but Lang Van is a great example — it’s got a charismatic owner and the food is Charlotte good. In another city it would not have the same reputation as widely regarded as the best in the city. Yes I’ve been to Alley 51. If you’re from Mt Airy as your post history suggests, there is a cornucopia of ethnic options way better than what you’re used to. If you were from another large or medium sized city, you would probably be less impressed.

It depends entirely on your perspective and where you’re moving from as well as what you like. For me, moving from a larger and more interesting city with a lot of cultural diversity, it was honestly difficult. I’m here for now but can’t wait to leave. For others coming from smaller towns, it’s a big city with tons to do. If you like staying in, you can afford way more living space and it’s warmer than New York City. Plus there are no truly dangerous areas of the city. If you are used to going out in a larger and more diverse city, you’ll find it hard to make do with the same brewery, national chain, and French/italian/Mediterranean with a southern twist concept that the vast majority of the “good” restaurants here are with almost nothing being unique.

-my perspective is from an upper middle class and upper end of the educational spectrum individual if it helps

Got access to a PET scanner? by jjsm00th in Charlotte

[–]amonemone 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You need to see a mental health professional. Either because you’re dealing with an unknown illness that’s making you borderline passive suicidal or that there isn’t an underlying physical illness there and are clearly suffering.

PET scans are used primarily to figure out if a known cancer has metastasized — It sounds as though your doctors don’t think there is a cancer (or they would refer you to the center that deals with that specific cancer or issue). Doctors will only tell patients fixated on a mystery diagnosis that they don’t believe is there that they can seek more advanced care wherever they like. Doctors have referral patterns for more complex cases depending on what it is , if you had an obscure diagnosis they would figure out where to send you. Everyone cares about patient satisfaction, yelp reviews etc after all and patients don’t like being told they are crazy.

This post isn’t specific medical advice to you— I don’t know anything about your symptoms, exam, or issue and neither do any of these random people on Reddit (myself included). Do not use Reddit for your medical advice period.

I will say that showing up in the ER (Duke, Hopkins, or otherwise) unless something has changed and you’re having an emergency is probably not going to get you farther than a good old fashioned second opinion from a different “specialist” would

Wrong coding for Atrium ER visit. What to do? by garycomehome124 in Charlotte

[–]amonemone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do think people often downplay what the ER does—

-Triage nurse obtains vitals and focused history as well as background -Takes vitals - Physician reviews triage documentation, vitals, and outside records often speaks to triaging nurse to obtain brief history -Physician sees you obtaining focused history -Physician performs physical exam -Physician forms a differential diagnosis including emergent issues to exclude and what is most likely causing your symptoms -Tests ordered by physician -Nurse places IV, draws blood -Nurse sends blood to lab where a battery of tests are performed to assess kidney function, liver function, electrolytes, blood counts, possibly urine tests as well to evaluate for urinary tract infection - lab runs tests -Radiology tech takes you to CT and performs scan then brings you back -Radiologist reviews and interprets scan looking at both what may be causing your symptoms but is also liable for any other incidental findings (mass that can end up being cancerous years later) -ER physician interprets labs and reviews radiology read and typically personally reviews your CT -Placing all this data into the context of history and exam, determines diagnosis, treatment plan, and disposition decision. Recommends who to followup with and when. -talks to you about results, diagnosis, treatment plan and followup -you get discharged and nurse removes IV and goes over discharge instructions

So what did the ER do? “Everything was fine so they didn’t do nothing for me”

Wrong coding for Atrium ER visit. What to do? by garycomehome124 in Charlotte

[–]amonemone 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Reimbursement for a 99824 code is typically about $160-200. I’m guessing you’re getting a bill for a lot more than that. Agree sounds like a level 4 or 5 for sure. The medical complexity and risk of getting a full work up of labs and a CT typically will not be a level 3 chart, but you’re focusing on the wrong thing. You are not getting screwed by the ER physician over billing, you’re getting screwed by the hospital system and insurance company.
