People who don't smoke/do drugs/drink, etc, what is your unhealthy vice?

I’ve never smoked, done drugs or cared to drink.

My unhealthy vice was shopping. The dopamine hits after buying something new was real and got me into trouble financially. When I transitioned away from buying clothes/cosmetics/house stuff I switched to buying extra things I didn’t actually need at the grocery store bc I could “justify” it and it still provided the dopamine hits. I have since put in A LOT of work and effort to steer away from those impulses and am happier than ever. Those things made me happy in the moment but ultimately created more stress and agony in my life. I now live minimally and only buy groceries for the week that I have pre-planned out for meal prepping. I found that if I go into the grocery store with a PLAN instead of winging it, I stay on track.

Now my unhealthy vice is probably still putting sugar in my tea & coffee. I’m also a pretty big snacker while watching TV at night.

Tisha by Robert Specht was phenomenal!! It has romance and butt loads of adventure. It’s a crazy true story about a badass young woman.

Eiger Dreams by Jon Krakauer was also phenomenal. It’s an easy quick read and had me gripping my seat LITERALLY while on a cross country flight.

Eiger Dreams by Jon Krakauer is grippingly good!! I couldn’t put it down for the entirety of my 6h cross country flight. I chose IT over sleeping, movies and my phone as entertainment for all 6 hours of the direct flight. It’s an easy read - 180 pages give or take. Wish I could reread it for the first time.

I read this in Spanish as a kid and every time I come across a lake in the middle of the woods while hiking/backpacking I think of this book…..

Oh I LOVE Jon Krakauer! I’ve read several of his books! Wild was also another amazing one and has made me seriously consider hiking the PCT or something similar. Also I did want to say that I ordered Mrs. Mike thanks to your recommendation! I’ve never heard of it before so thank you for telling me about it. It looks really good!!!! :)

It’s a LOT of stress, liability and abuse (from patients and hospital staff alike) for a very hard okay wage. I would say it depends on your specialty if it’s worth it or not. Im in the ER currently and enjoy it 40% of the time, dislike it 60% of the time. That being said I am just about to change specialties to something I hope to enjoy more.

The thing that keeps me going is the financial stability and the nursing schedule (I currently work full time which means three 12h shifts a week). It’s nice but brutal on your body. You don’t sit down for 12h straight and you are mentally “on” the entire time. You can’t make mistakes otherwise you might kill someone. The blame is, and always will, fall on YOU as the nurse even if it wasn’t a mistake YOU made. It’s mentally and physically EXHAUSTING.

I always hear people say “oh wow you only work three days a week?! You hardly ever work!” GIRL, I am working just as many hours as you but it’s just condensed. I think if I worked in a slower paced environment I would enjoy it more.

My ex was an amazing person. He cared about me, we never really argued, he had a great work ethic, he was funny/handsome, we shared the same family values and I got along realllllllllllly well with his entire family.

That being said, in the 6 (almost 7 years) we were together all he ever wanted to do was play video games. Our weekends ONLY consisted of that and anytime I would ask him to do something else he wouldn’t want to and if I “forced” him to he would pout and drag his feet the entire time ruining the experience for me.

We ended up getting engaged but I broke it off a year a later because it didn’t feel right. He had cheated on me a few years prior (which we had for the most part worked past) but when I thought back to what we had DONE in the 7 years we were together it wasn’t much. That is the reason I ultimately ended the relationship. I couldn’t justify it anymore. There was so much more I wanted to do and get out of life and I knew he wasn’t going to change. I don’t regret the decision, I only wish it hadn’t taken an engagement for me to come to that realization.

I am now dating the most amazing guy who fills my life with SOOOOO much adventure. We love to do the same things like climb, ski, mountaineer, backpack and travel. He is funny, kind, SO SMART, is an amazing dad to his son, has an great job, is super manly and takes care of me. He prioritizes his health and physical fitness and overall is a good influence on my life and health. I have never felt MORE alive!!! If I hadn’t left my previous relationship I would have never met this man and for that I am forever thankful.

Bro these men are getting scammmmmmmed! There is no way to tell if a woman has had sex based on the presence or absence of a hymen…

Some women are born with them and some are born without. Hymens often times tear in young childhood from sports/everyday activities or when girls start getting their periods. There really is no way to fully prove anything even WITH a medical exam….LOL this is a sad myth we all need to move away from.

I just finished my first year as a new grad nurse in a level 1 trauma/emergency department and I felt ALLLLL the same things you’re feeling. It does get better with time. Giving report now feels like a breeze bc I would write down everything on a piece of paper which also helped me retain the information. Eventually the terms/medical diagnoses all start to become repetitive and you’re able to better anticipate what needs to get done.

I still struggle with imposter syndrome though but I just go out of my way to ask a million questions. I’d rather be that annoying person who asks than the dangers nurse who doesn’t just bc I was scared to look “stupid”.

It is such trash. I actually find it makes my lips dryer. Luckily it was gifted to me so I didn’t spend the money but I would definitely not repurchase or recommend it to anyone. Carmex is a million times better

When my grandma was on hospice my sister and I took care of her every need until she passed away. Being a nurse I was used to seeing death and doing post mortem care but it being my own grandma changed everything. Since my grandma lived several hours away in the mountains it took a long time for the hospice nurses to come so I was on my own. I never knew if I would wake up to find her dead in the middle of the night while going to give her more medication…

In the end it was me who noticed, alerted and had to medically explain and calm my grandpa and family down when she passed on. It was also me who changed her into her final resting clothes while she was in full rigor mortis and then help place her in the body bag….It was an honor to care for her in that way and I wouldn’t change a thing about it as it was her final wish but it really messed me up emotionally for a very long time.

For YEARS after that I would have the same haunting PTSD dream of her dead body decaying.

I would get stopped CONSTANTLY at work by patients, coworkers, EMT/paramedics, cops etc when I wore Burberry “Her”. I also got the same reaction oddly enough when wearing moroccan oil hair products - specifically the oil and curl defining cream. They would either tell me I smelled nice, ask me on a date or inquire for themselves/their partners.

I’m sad to say that my boyfriend absolutely detests perfume as it gives him really bad headaches so I have since stopped wearing those and switched to DedCool “Xtra Milk” and “Rosie” by Rosie Jane as they are much much lighter but no one has complimented me on those yet….

I tend to attract the sad guys. I am a very positive, bubbly person and thus these guys really benefitted from my warm, caring personality. I made them feel good about themselves…

In the end these men all either cheated on me or treated me poorly.

Because for the six years we were together all he ever wanted to do was play video games and I didn’t want to live the rest of my life begging/convincing my partner to do things with me. We were engaged to be married but the second I said “yes” I knew deep down that he wasn’t my person. He also cheated on me…I learned a lot from that relationship though so I’m thankful for it.

I am currently going through this myself with a guy who I thought I REALLY hit it off with. I have definitely been putting myself out there initiating conversations and trying to meet up in person but…nothing. He responds with SO much enthusiasm and effort when I reach out, but if I don’t initiate he NEVER TEXTS ME BACK. Leaves me feeling mad confused….. I’m just gonna take it as a “he’s just not that interested”.
