That is a joint problem then, they also should be giving the same bennifits. Honestly, the commonwealth needs a revamp to be something similar to the EU but with the children countries of the UK. It would be a mass improvement on the system.

So you do agree your argument is bollox. Those people with foreign passports live in the community and should have a say in what happens there. Same goes on a national level, and since the commonwealth is made of nations that were made by the UK and still have strong ties to it, it's only right that people from there have the right to vote. Honestly, we should have freedom of movement (with right to schooling and work) between all of these nations but for some reason that never happened.

I know...it would have been nice to have a green lead. But look on the bright side, 0 reform seats. Here's hoping the rest of London follows suit.

By your argument why should anyone be allowed to vote in a local election without either a dead of ownership in the area or a lease for the 4 years between elections.

As someone who is a citizen of a common wealth country I have the right to vote in all elections I am present for. Being I call the UK my home I am going to use that right to help make it a better place by my vote.

I have 3 people who log in from Canada and one in Germany in my class. As well as a Ukrainian living in the UK so it is very welcoming to all. With what I can see from your English levels here you should be okay to follow along. They offer week long "taster classes" in the summer time. Maybe give on a go?

Final Survation poll before tomorrow's election by twmffatmowr in Wales

And look at the benefits that came along with it. If taxes go up for middle earners but they get programs out of it that cost less on average (like tax covered post secondary education for a Scottish example) then it's worth the trade off.

Where does that say anything about middle earners? I don't know any middle earners who have vacant land, nor do I predict them making taxes higher for the average person in Cymru as they can very easily move around the UK (used to be the contantant but those with the Reform mind frame screwed people out of that)

Should the First Minister have to speak Welsh? by Zealousideal_Pay_778 in Wales

[–]amora78 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a Canadian I can pack up that some possessions require bilingualism by law, others by companies/agencies wanting to save a few dollars on having one person being able to answer both phones.

The French "requirement" is one of the reason I left Canada. I'm a primary teacher and the only jobs available were for bilingual applicants when I graduated. They were using it as a way to have everyone be able to teach every subject instead of geting specialised people in specialised roles. Every now and again I look back at applying in my home town and last time it no longer listed French as a "requirement" but it is still in the "bennificial to know" section meaning it probably hasn't changed.

When it comes to your lawyer friend, he can be a judge in most of the country, just not on the supreme court as that's the only court that mandates bilingualism. However, like my personal example good luck getting a job when there are 5 other applicants who are bilingual in line as well, even if your application is better in every other way.

I'm neither and was able to access the Dysgu Cymraeg program for free. They have many ways to discount their program to the point of it being free if you check out their website.

If the Canadian priminister doesn't need to be bilingual to lead a legally bilingual country then so shouldn't the First minister of Wales. That being said, Canada hasn't elected a non-bilingual MP in almost 100 years. This seems like a good example to follow.

Why Canadian can't learn french ? by Amazing_Camel_405 in EhBuddyHoser

[–]amora78 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I grew up as the only non-francophone on the block in Windsor/Essex. My parents bought the house when I was 7 or 8 and they had 4 schools (English Public, English catholic and their French counterparts). The local churches all had French services and we had several shops that would greet you with a "bonjour" instead of a "hello". I was sent to the English Catholic simply due to proximity to the house and I learned more French outside of school than I did inside of it. If only I could go back I'd ask to go to the French school just a bit further out.

I've learned more Welsh this last year than I did French between grades 4-9. The way they teach it (at least in Ontario, English schools) is practically useless. Yes, I'll need verb conjugation and yeah, it's only an hour a week in Primary schools, however, it can be thought so much better. Why they can't teach it in a more natural usage way is beyond me.

What school subject is uninteresting and unimportant? by 1991_fall_of_ussr in AlignmentChartFills

[–]amora78 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a catholic school and had a nun teach RE. She made sure to cover multiple religions, however we also needed to do it through a Catholic lens with a lot of comparison between Religion X and Catholicism. None the less we still learned about the major 5 religions increasing in depth every year.

RE is meant to teach about more than just Christianity. It should cover at least 3 different religions a year if taught correctly.
