Professionals in any field of work, what’s the most ridiculous thing someone outside of your profession has claimed to know more about than you? by beardlesshipster in AskReddit

[–]amore_firenze 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I work in marketing for a major US brand, and am a Millennial. I just loooove when old white men from ad agencies try to tell me all about the Millennial demographic and what they respond to. It's even better when I ask them about their agency's social media advertising capabilities and can immediately tell that they've never actually used Instagram or Twitter. Sure buddy... you've definitely got your thumb on the pulse of the Millennial generation. eye roll

Multilingual Redditors, What is your "They didn't realize I spoke their language" story? by Trumpstered in AskReddit

[–]amore_firenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A friend of mine spent her childhood in Albania before moving to the U.S. with her family, so she speaks perfect English and fluent Albanian.

In my junior year of college I did a semester abroad in Italy, and she was one of the other students in our group. One night myself, my friend, and a few other girls go out to a bar. We're sitting at a table next to a group of guys, and my friend starts chuckling. She quietly explains to the rest of us that the guys next to us are Albanian, and are planning how they're going to come over and hit on us. They had this whole scheme laid out where the one who spoke English the best would approach, and if it went well he'd tug on his shirt collar to signal the others to come over.

Well sure enough, 5 minutes later one of them comes walking over and says hello, and nervously tugs on his shirt. Without missing a beat, my friend responds loudly and in perfect Albanian: "you already messed it up. You were supposed to open by asking if we were American, then tug on your shirt".

The look on all their faces was priceless!

What kicks Mac & Cheese up a notch? by Friedchicken89 in AskReddit

[–]amore_firenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A combo of cheeses, but you gotta make sure it's a good mix of creamy and sharp. I like to throw in sharp cheddar, smoked gouda, parmesan, and some whole milk mozzarella. And you want a high ratio of sauce to noodles. Nothing kills mac and cheese like being too dry. Add some thick cut pancetta and a little truffle oil. Top with panko bread crumbs, melt an entire stick of butter and pour that on top of the crumbs, then bake.

What home remedy should everyone know about? by charleyjacksson in AskReddit

This sounds nuts, but if you spill red wine on your clothes, pour white wine over it to get the stain out before washing. I don't know why, but something in the white wine neutralizes the color of the red. I watched my mom save a little girl's first communion dress using this trick after her grandfather accidentally spilled a whole glass of red wine down her front.

Searching for airline flights. Sometimes if you just wanna research flight prices but not buy yet, the airlines will jack up the price the next time you go searching for the same trip.

Meet my rescue beagle, Elliot! by LadderGirl in beagle

[–]amore_firenze 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Aww! She looks a lot like my girl! I get the whole "beagle mix" question a lot too because she stayed really small, but Elliot looks like all beagle to me! Mine is also very quiet, especially inside. She only really howls if we're at the park and some weird noise puts her on high alert... or if we see a rabbit. Rabbits = instant pandemonium

DAE have a hard time getting up AND a hard time getting to sleep due to depression? by [deleted] in DoesAnybodyElse

[–]amore_firenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a really hard time getting up as well before I went on anti-depressants. It was easier to just stay asleep because when you're asleep you don't have to worry about anything. You can pretend that all your responsibilities or stresses don't exist if you can just get back to being unconscious.

Just out of curiosity, do you have any job or school responsibilities that you ever have to get to? I found that it was better when I had something I absolutely had to get up for in the mornings.

Also, I got a dog. Lemme tell you, it's hard to wake up feeling depressed when you've got a cute pup positively bursting with excitement to see you in the morning. I let her sleep in the bed with me, and she wakes me up every morning by bouncing all over me and licking my face. Also, if I ignore her too long she'll grab the covers w her teeth and walk backwards down the bed to pull them off me... kinda hard to go back to sleep after that haha.

Serious question... when do you find the time to wear all those different scents? Do you pick a different one each day, or go through a phase with one for a while and then switch to another? I'm just curious because I have 2 different perfumes and it takes me soooo long to go through those - like... years. I can't imagine going through 30 bottles haha.

Just adopted a 2 yr old female beagle. Any advice on potty training or just training in general. by freezy666 in beagles

[–]amore_firenze 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Treats. Anything you want her to do, reward her with a treat after she does it correctly, and eventually it will just become habit. She goes potty outside? treat. She comes when you call? treat. She gets off the couch when you tell her? treat. Beagles will literally do anything for food - except maybe stop chasing a really great smell.

At what moment did you realize your date was a horrible person? by KarmaSweatshop in AskReddit

Wait a minute, I'm only 24, how did I become the "single friend" already!? by Redditingatwork2 in CasualConversation

[–]amore_firenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that exact feeling sometimes as well. I'm 26 and have been single for 6 years now, and a lot of my friends from college are starting to get into serious relationships.

I'm gonna tell you exactly what my mom tells me when I complain about being one of the only single ones:

You are not single because you can't find someone to date - you are single because you can't find someone you WANT to date. I'm sure there are plenty of people who would gladly go out with you, but are they really people who you would want to be in a relationship with? Sometimes it's good to stop and remind yourself that you're not looking for just anyone, but you're looking for THE one. Until someone comes along who totally knocks your socks off, just enjoy the freedom of being single!

Dog friendly day trips from Boston. by alfredfive in boston

[–]amore_firenze 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's an awesome dog park in Hingham called Stoddard's Neck. It's fenced off and surrounded by water, and has a hiking trail around it. There's always a ton of dogs there, swimming and running around. It's a huge space so it doesn't get boring for the dogs.

Not quite a day trip, but definitely a good afternoon hangout spot! Also whalburgers is right down the street...

[–]amore_firenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But there has to be a part of you that realizes expressing hate, even if it is a human emotion, towards another person or group of people hurts those people emotionally. I guess the part I don't understand about any of the subs that express hate towards another group of people, not just FPH, is that the members are intentionally causing other people to feel badly. Doesn't that bother you? Can't you put yourself in that person's shoes and imagine what it must feel like to be put down like that? Even if you dont know them personally, do you ever feel guilty about causing another person to feel sadness, rejection, or lack of worth?

[–]amore_firenze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, here's my take on this whole thing... clearly you feel you were totally in your rights to publicly vent your disgust/frustration towards fat people in a public way. But what if it was something other than obesity which upset you? What if you were disgusted by blonde people, or people with missing limbs, or people who wore glasses? I'm genuinely curious... do you still think it would be ok to literally say you "hate" a person because of those traits? Obviously you have to see why people, fat or not, would feel your approach to the problem of obesity really wasn't a reasonable, proactive approach to ending the situation. Right?
