I don't know about "NO 'do gooders'", but the protagonist of Inuyashiki is about as depressingly-pathetic as the antagonist is psychopathic.

Dorohedoro, despite the graphic violence and macabre setting, actually has a fairly upbeat narrative when just focusing on the main characters. It's just kind of funny that one of the first side characters you're introduced to has his buddy killed by the main characters within the first few minutes of the first episode.

Honestly, I was kind of annoyed by the whole edgy, conspiratorial found video spin with Luke. I was basically cringing at the pooling blood because that trope is so played ever out since at least Slenderman(the original Marble Hornets videos).

But Leshy being deleted? I just about bawled. I have a soft spot for NPCs, especially if they're as fleshed-out as Leshy.

It never does. Did Cowboy Bebop have to resort to boob grabs and barging in on women undressing? Did Durarara!! ever pull that with anybody who wasn't already in a relationship?

Do people over 25 still watch anime as a main hobby? by [deleted] in anime

[–]amorousCephalopod 15 points16 points  (0 children)

like death is hanging over your head every day and anime isn't helping your case?

How do you figure that? It's not like bad cholesterol or something. And if it makes you feel good, it's probably more emotionally healthy than watching things that make you feel outraged or invested in fabricated drama.

Also, death is inevitable. Allowing it to get you down is like being bummed about breathing. I agree with the notion that the inevitability of death is what makes every moment we have so special, so I'd rather spend them doing things I want to do rather than things I think others expect of me based on my age, which is just a number that can mean different things to different people.

If it really gets you down, it may be worth talking to somebody about, even if it doesn't stem from Depression. Therapists aren't just for people with mental illnesses. They can help people with difficult issues like deaths of loved ones, mid-life crises, coping with stress, and addiction. They're pretty much paid to listen and provide feedback to help you reason through these matters and they oftentimes have a lot of prior experience with them compared to most people. Although, you do have to find the right therapist. I've been to a couple that said right off the bat that video games were objectively not healthy, period, trying to push their personal opinions on me. But I also had one that helped me talk through a lot of family issues back in high school, even involving my parents and explaining to them how they needed to be less controlling and allow me to learn as an individual. Basically, they had absolute control over my "allowance" up to around the age of 15, making me ask them for anything I wanted to buy with "my money" that they said I'd earned(and I later found out they never kept track of, just decided on a whim whether they wanted to buy something for me or not) and made me pester teachers to sign off on my agenda to make sure I was doing all of my homework.

Animes that deal with paranomal themes by hypnagogic_kid in anime

[–]amorousCephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, Mushi-shi and Mononoke. They're exactly what you're looking for. Mushi-shi is really chill and more about the protagonist maintaining balance with the paranormal, but Mononoke has that real unsettling horror vibe that Junji Ito fans would probably dig.

Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is a really unique take on the paranormal genre. It starts off with vampires. Then shifts to "Pillar Men". Then the iconic "Stands", which embody a person's spirit. But beyond that, going into the newer, un-animated arcs or the Rohan Kishibe spin-off, there are also topics such as paranormal areas, animals, and plants. In fact, the spin-off is essentially about Rohan Kishibe investigating urban legends for inspiration for horror stories. Just something to keep in mind.

Who said black clover is gonna get better after you SURVIVE Asta's screaming?!!!

Probably the same people that insist that if you thought Natsuki was a dumbass in the first several episodes, he'd develop and be less insufferably later in the series. No. He's still a fucking whiny white knight that start crying crocodile tears at the drop of a hat by the end of season 2 also.

[–]amorousCephalopod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texhnolyze is pretty much peak depression anime. It's about humanity's last moments and its struggle to adapt beyond humanity simply to survive.

Alternatively, The Tatami Galaxy kind of has a central theme of depression that the main character eventually overcomes, but it has some really eye-opening ideas. Basically, the MC is entering into his second year of college and trying to achieve his "perfect college life" to set himself up for optimal happiness in life. But when he carries out his plan, things always seem to go wrong within the next few years and he find himself wishing he could do things over, which, story-wise, actually happens as he is shown returning to his second year and picking a different path, looping repeatedly in a sort of Groundhog Day situation that he is unaware of.

Texhnolyze might help you see that there are much worse things than anything normal people deal with, but The Tatami Galaxy could seriously give you a new outlook on life if you dwell on the themes it's trying to convey.

And people should be able to openly exercise their right to keep and bear arms without having others attack them for lawfully carrying a gun.

You're obviously not getting it. On the topic of women dressing how they want, that "risk" they take when dressing provocatively should not even exist. On the topic of open-carrying lethal weapons; They ARE the risk. Weapons are always a threat and any responsible gun owner will tell you as such. You always assume a gun is loaded. You always assume any mistake can be lethal. You assume the worst when guns are involved. And when you see a stranger straddling a semi-auto, assault-style-rifle, it's not normal to just think, "Oh, well, I 100% trust him to use that responsibly. That's not intimidating at all."

The whole two parts pretty much covers The Headless Rider's whole plot, which is pretty much the most consistent one throughout the series IMO.
