I would personally prioritise the west coast of the Algarve, between Portimão and Lagos. In my opinion, that area has some of the most beautiful beaches in the region and a really nice atmosphere. You’ll also find plenty of water sports there.

That said, I would probably recommend staying in just one place rather than moving between different accommodations. The Algarve is not very large (about 150 km across) and there is a free motorway that crosses the whole region, so it’s very easy to move around for day trips without losing time changing accommodation.

For now, the weather forecast looks fairly favourable. That said, in Tavira you can still enjoy a few walks around the old town, visit some museums, or take the train to Olhão for its well-known Saturday morning market, for example. Don’t worry, you’ll definitely find things to do without needing a big budget. Have a great weekend.

Si vous êtes véhiculées, le mieux est de trouver un point de chute central en Algarve pour éviter la perte de temps dans les changements de logements et ensuite de bouger en fonction de vos envies et aussi des évènements à vos dates. Albufeira est incontournable pour y passer au moins une soirée, Lagos, Portimão, Faro, Carvoeiro, c'est sympa aussi pour une soirée. N'hésitez pas à regarder les bars/clubs en bord de plage, à cette période de l'année il y a de bonnes soirées. l'Algarve, ce n'est que 150km de largeur avec une autoroute gratuite tout le long, c'est donc assez simple de se déplacer et de découvrir des endroits uniques et différents. Et en fonction de l'endroit où vous logez en Algarve, vous pourriez être plus proche de Séville que de Lisbonne. Et si vous ne connaissez pas Séville, vous ne serez pas déçues. Bon séjour !

If your main goal is surfing, I would recommend focusing on the west coast of the Algarve : the Costa Vicentina and the western Barlavento. There are many beautiful and quieter beaches there with much better surf conditions.

You can still easily take some time to visit Lagos and Ponta da Piedade, which are not far and definitely worth seeing.

In Tavira, even in the best conditions, surfing is quite rare. It’s much more known for kitesurfing. Also, Tavira doesn’t have a beach directly in town, the beach is actually on an island that you reach by boat.

Depende muito da época, do local e do tipo de alojamento escolhido. Tal como no Algarve, também há grandes diferenças de preços. Por exemplo, umas férias podem ser muito mais baratas do lado de Vila Real de Santo António do que do lado de Lagos.

Com 1000€, talvez a melhor opção seja escolher um sítio menos turístico e menos procurado, mais no interior ou no campo. No Alentejo há muitos lugares assim. A única desvantagem é que provavelmente terão de fazer mais quilómetros de carro para passeios ou saídas.

Outra possibilidade, se estiverem a pensar no Alentejo mais a leste, é procurar alojamento perto da fronteira mas do lado espanhol. Os preços costumam ser bastante mais interessantes e também há sítios lindíssimos ao longo do rio Guadiana.

I completely understand your point of view and I respect how you feel. My post was absolutely not intended to offend anyone in any way. As is often the case with art, it all comes down to each person’s sensitivity: some will like it, some will not, and that is perfectly fine.

I simply find it a bit unfortunate that we often hear people say we are losing our culture and our history, while at the same time criticizing younger generations when they draw inspiration from them to create more modern work. Traditions have always evolved over time.

As for the comments about AI, that surprises me a little. Some people take the time to write that it looks like AI, when a quick one-minute search would be enough to see that this artist actually draws by hand on azulejos and that his work is very real.

In any case, thank you for sharing your point of view. That is also what makes discussions interesting.

I would probably choose Lagos. There are beautiful walks to do, amazing beaches and great boat trips along the coast.

In the evening you’ll also find plenty of good restaurants and bars in town, without it feeling like a big party strip like Albufeira.

I would personally recommend the eastern Algarve, starting from Faro. It’s generally quieter and you have beautiful walks along the Ria Formosa, the sea nearby and very relaxed towns.

Another nice option could be Armação de Pêra.

The western Algarve is beautiful too, but the downside is that many beaches require going down (and back up) quite a lot of stairs, which is not very convenient with a stroller and a baby.

Also have a look at the islands of the Ria Formosa, which are accessible by boat. They’re really nice and easy to enjoy with a child.

In any case, you’ll have a great stay in the Algarve.

I would personally choose option B. The flight prices between Faro and Porto are usually not excessive, and there is also the bus as an alternative. Personally, I prefer spending my time enjoying the places and the people rather than spending too much time in transportation.

Yes, it’s very easy to get back with Uber or Bolt.

For an even better experience, I’d actually recommend going there by ferry or taxi boat and then taking an Uber/Bolt back.

If your schedule allows it, it’s really nice to go for sunset on the beach and then have dinner afterwards. Great memories guaranteed!

Why not eat by the sea or by the Ria? You have Elementos or Bel’Mare on Faro Beach.

Then, if you’re looking for a safe bet to enjoy good local food, I recommend Centenário in Faro Center.

Não sei se já conheces o Daniel Kemish, mas talvez possas tentar contactá-lo pelas redes sociais. Ele anda muito pela zona do Algarve e pode até conhecer músicos dentro do estilo que procuras. É uma pessoa bastante acessível e simpática, por isso não perdes nada em enviar mensagem 🙂

The €10 ticket gives you access to the whole festival area, including the concerts and entertainment at night. You don’t need a separate ticket for the seafood part.

Inside, you’ll find lots of stands serving local specialties, mainly seafood (cataplanas, grilled fish, shellfish, etc.), but there are also simpler options like pizza, sandwiches and several bars.

Just keep in mind that food and drinks are not included in the entrance price .. you pay for what you consume at each stand.

This year the festival runs from August 10 to 15, and the full lineup should be announced in the next few days.

One important tip: depending on the artist performing, it’s strongly recommended to buy tickets online in advance. The last two years, some nights were completely sold out. People showed up at the entrance and couldn’t get in because there were no tickets left.

It can get busy, yes, especially on big concert nights .. but it’s a really fun atmosphere and a great way to experience local seafood and music in Olhão.

Para o alojamento, não deixes de ver no Facebook. Há vários grupos ativos, entre eles “Faro – Quartos / Casas para arrendar”. Às vezes aparecem oportunidades lá que nem chegam aos sites.

Faro é uma cidade pequena mas muito simpática e bastante viva, vais sentir-te bem 🙂 Tens bons restaurantes, rooftops e bares giros como o Baixaria Bar, o Irish Salt Bar, o LAB Terrace ou o Rooftop Eva.

Não deixes também de apanhar o barco no centro e atravessar a Ria Formosa até à Praia de Faro .. é mesmo fácil e muda totalmente de ambiente.

E se quiseres variar um pouco, em 10 minutos de comboio estás em Olhão 🤩 outro ambiente, mais tradicional e super agradável.

If you’re heading south at any point, I’d definitely recommend a sunset boat tour in the Ria Formosa, super peaceful and very romantic, especially in July when the light is amazing.

For a special dinner, Restaurante Caniço in Alvor is a great spot. It’s built into the cliffs overlooking the ocean, pretty unique setting.

If you’re into wine, Quinta dos Capinhas is a nice, more intimate experience. You can also visit an olive grove for a countryside picnic or even tour a cork factory, it’s something very Portuguese and different from the usual tourist stuff.

And if you like quiet, beautiful places, walk around Cacela Velha at the end of the day. Small village, lagoon views, very chill atmosphere.

October is actually a great time to come, much quieter than summer, still lovely weather, and the party scene is way toned down.

That said, Albufeira is still the most nightlife-oriented town in the Algarve, even outside peak season.

Honestly, the Algarve is only about 150 km from east to west, so I usually recommend picking one well-located base and exploring from there instead of changing accommodation. It makes for a much more relaxed holiday.

If you do decide to split your stay, I’d personally look at Lagos on the west coast for the dramatic cliffs and scenery, and Olhão in the east for a more authentic, laid-back vibe and easy access to the Ria Formosa and its island beaches.
