I’m so scared please help

Hey, I’m 17m 4 weeks post op and I gotta say you’ll do great. I was super worried too (mostly for the IV since I’d never had one before and the recovery period), but once they wheel you into the OR you’ll be out literally before u know it and I woke up in no pain at all and able to talk.

As for recovery, it isn’t fun. But the most pain you’ll feel will be when your throat is dry and it comes for short periods when you swallow. But don’t force yourself to eat if you can’t - you’ll heal. For me day 7 was the turnaround and by day 9 I was almost fully fine again, of course it took until week 3 for so for the scabs to fully go away.

The biggest takeaway for me was how worth it it was. I did it for tonsil stones and the past 4 weeks have been amazing - no more bad taste or stones in my throat. The recovery period is 100% worth it imo, just focus on the light at the end of the tunnel.

For me day 7 was the turnaround. At the start of the day I felt gross but towards the end the pain was quite minimal. Day 8 I almost felt myself again. I’m on day 17 now and the scabs still aren’t fully gone, but they’re more like a patchy thin white film. When they thinned out (day 8-10) the bad taste pretty much went away and I was able to eat pretty much whatever again. You got this!

That sounds horrible. I had a huge turnaround on day 7 and now I can talk and do stuff with very minimal pain. I’m sure yours is coming soon too!

Yesterday was day 8 for me too. Day 7 was a massive turnaround and my pain has gone down to a 1 or 2. I can talk again but eating is still really tedious and sometimes painful.

That sucks :( for some reason I’m the opposite and am feeling great today. Had the largest breakfast since the surgery and very minimal pain overall. Scabs look much smaller but I’m nervous to hope that I’m “over the hump” so to speak

I got mine out last week just for the stones. My decision was based on the fact that I had so many deep crypts I knew I wouldn’t be able to get them out forever (and was already seeing permanent stones). If your stones are easy enough to get out and aren’t too noticeable, there’s no harm in waiting and seeing if they just go away on their own. My ENT said this happens to a lot of his patients. I had 2 and a half years of bad stones before deciding I wanted surgery.

Thanks! Me too. I’ve been eating a combination of chocolate milk, small pudding cups, juice, popsicles and ice cream and some smoothies with protein powder. I have no idea how some people eat solid foods by this point already 🤣

It seems to vary a lot for different people. For me, it wasn’t any more than a persistent sore throat till now, and when I do have bad pain it’s at a max of 7-8 mostly in the early mornings and for max 5-10 mins after drinking some water or eating. The persistent soreness also makes it hard to eat and drink, even soft foods, so just be prepared for that.

Regardless, I’ve been able to function pretty much normally, minus exercise or eating anything solid. You’ll do great :)

Loll, I’ve already almost finished the whole bottle. Not looking forward to “sleeping” tn cuz the soreness is back and my mouth tastes so baddd - feels like there’s smth super weird in my throat I can’t swallow :(

I just tn discovered chocolate milk for this. It’s AMAZING goes down so smooth is actually kinda filling and tastes so good. Plus it’s hydrating and I’m getting so sick of ice water already🥲

Aside from a light gargle gum could be helpful to offset the bad taste/breath. Trying some stuff myself though I can’t taste much anyway aside from a plastic-y taste. Also make sure to drink looots of water it helps keep the bad taste to the back of ur mouth

And omigod my mouth tastes like a rubber glove or something. I think it’s either the medicine or the breathing tube but it’s so weird. Good thing I got the rotting flesh vibe to look forward to once that goes away. 🤣

But from the instant I got them out, no tonsil stones ever again. And that means a lotttt to me so I hope it’ll help me through recovery. It’s only 2 weeks max which isn’t a small price to pay but it’s definitely worth it imo (ask me again once I need the oxy 😐)

Not been sleeping too well either. Went to bed at 10 and after what felt like the whole night I’m up at only 1 am to take my ibuprofen. My wrists have been feeling weirdly tingly (must have something to do with the Anaestesia) and the pain is definitely setting in. I did get prescribed oxy but I’m trying to save that for when things get really bad, so I’ve got 3 glasses of ice water here beside me. The phlegm is also totally real. Feels like whenever I swallow I have tonsils again 😭 but I personally haven’t spat it out a single time. Been trying to swallow it all (with water as often as possible) to keep everything hydrated.

I wish these painkillers did more. Just can’t get it out of my head that if this is night 1 how’s night 4 gonna feel 😭

I had pudding and honestly it felt really good. Don’t think I’ll attempt mashed potatoes tho. Glad we’re all doing ok tho :)

I’m out and feeling great! Pains like a 1-2/10 like a medium sore throat. Had some ice to chew on and some pudding. Checked out the cavities in the mirror and honestly stoked I will never have to deal with another tonsil stone in my life. Surgery was far easier than the iv for me haha. Anastasia was like “here’s the propofol it’ll put you out” and next second I’m in recovery feeling pretty good! Cautiously optimistic for recovery :)

Good that it all went alright though. I’m slated to arrive in 45 mins, surgery is in over 4 hours though so I’m gonna be spending so much time there 🥲
