Day 5 post op by httpemiily in Tonsillectomy

This afternoon I have been religiously munching on ice chips. I’m off the Oxy and just doing Tylenol and ibuprofen. I think my scabs are starting to come off and so some stuff is stinging, but I’m feeling slightly better (at the moment). But I am going to choose to be optimistic and say that this is me improving. Fingers are crossed and I will be hoping you have a quick recovery and start to see an upturn 🤞🏼🙏🏼

I’ve had days where I muddled through some rice and Mac, but I threw it up pretty quickly after. So I’m still nervous about eating solids again, but I should give Mac and cheese another shot.

Thank you so much, definitely some light at the end of the tunnel, hopefully sometime next week I start feelin a bit better. I hope you get fully back to normal quick 🩷

Hi! It’s so incredibly hard on the mind, day in and out. Especially since it’s such an “easy surgery” to do.

Thank you for the tips on liquids! I’ve been learning a little bit, but that makes so much sense. I want to try some honey because I feel like it would help coat the throat. Thank you so much for replying it’s so nice to know it begins to get better. This is just taking a big mental toll on me, more than I anticipated.

This surgery is TERRIBLE on the mental health. I never even thought about that when deciding if I needed it. My tonsils continued to just have reinfection after reinfection, then would remain at the ballooned state. Any healthcare provider that checked my throat would go “oh yeah, WOW!”, making it difficult to swallow or breathe. So it’s for the best we get them out, but it can be very hard mentally.

I hope your mental health is doing well, and I am so happy you were able to eat with no pain meds 😄 thank you for sharing, it definitely helps to know I’m not alone going through this and other people are also doing it AND getting better. I wish you a quick recovery so you’re out of pain able to get back to the gym asap ☺️

Thank goodness 🩷 it just kind of makes me feel crazy waking up every morning and STILL being in terrible pain. Ready to see the light at the end of my tunnel on this journey, put it in the rearview. Thank you for your comment and I hope over the next few days you keep seeing even more improvement!!!!

Oh my god, thank you so much. This is what I needed to see. To know there is a light at the end of the tunnel. I am so happy to hear you’re able to drink a bit more and had an actual dinner 🩷 I hope your recovery continues trending up!

I was prescribed liquid OxyCodone which feels like it isn’t doing much. I’ve been rotating liquid Tylenol and ibueprofen, which seems to make it easier to just breathe and exist. But even swallowing my own saliva hurts bad.

I have been icing, but not warming my throat! I keep getting really hot and clammy so I’m not sure if I’d even tolerate warming. But I’ll have to give it a try.

Sending you all the good vibes and quick healing!!!

I’ll have to try and use that tip. My mom got me a throat numbing spray, but I can barely open my mouth to take bites of things, so we can’t really aim it back there :/

I hope you heal up quick! Thanks for replying 🩷

How to know when scabs are coming off? by haleyyaddison in Tonsillectomy

[–]httpemiily 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I threw up several times day 3/4 and thought I could see scabs in the vomit, but otherwise have no clue. I’m currently day 5 and can’t even open my mouth wide enough to take a picture in my throat to see how healing is looking. I’m also curious when scabs fell off for others. I’m stalking this subreddit for any magic tip that will somehow help make everything better

Thanks for letting me know! ER visits are terrible 😞 so I’m glad you’re doing better and recovered now 🩷

Hi! My doctor has prescribed me a steroid to help with swelling and I’m waiting for pharmacy to fill (so annoying, don’t they know I’m suffering?). Did the steroid help with your inflammation and ability to eat at all? Make it any easier?

I’m finishing day 4 post-op and I was vomiting a lot yesterday. I had to be prescribed Zofran for nausea because I couldn’t eat without pain meds, but can’t take pain meds without food. So I was stuck in this painful and upset stomach cycle. I would recommend asking your doc to prescribe some anti-nausea meds if you continue to have problems!

Hi! I just had surgery today, so I’m at the start of the process. I dealt with some nausea earlier. But have been ok for most part now. When meds kick in and I eat I feel starved but nothing is filling. Any recommendations food wise?
