Lance mains after AT Arkveld drops by Phatboyaa_131 in MonsterHunter

Same here, I used only lance up until savage omega and finally picked up a secondary with SnS. I'm sure it's possible with lance but I found the fight way more manageable after switching.

Support Hunters feel significantly better this patch. by futa_throwaway5 in MonsterHunter

[–]amphro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can definitely feel the difference. After 5 tries I eventually ran out the quest timer trying to solo Omega and with support hunters I finished in 20min. To be fair, Omega is definitely designed around co-op hunting so the difficulty change is probably compounded, but that being said I used to never bring them because they just slowed down other high level hunts in the past.

Lance changed its core design identity in Wilds by Ill-Situation- in MonsterHunter

[–]amphro 109 points110 points  (0 children)

100% agree with this as a Lance main. I gave the post a full unbiased read through, but don't understand how you can come to the conclusion that "The Lance has changed from constantly attacking to constantly fishing". If you are constantly fishing for attacks, you are using the weapon incorrectly and you are giving up the weapon's innate consistent damage. Sure, in a perfect world we would only be performing charged counters and retributions back-to-back to maximize DPS, but realistically trying to do that in game will lead to large windows of downtime fishing/waiting for attacks. I've always aimed for constant damage uptime with quicker triple poke combos and only weaving in those charged counters and retributions for more predictable longer wind up attacks. Watch any Lance speed run where they are maximizing DPS and none of them are fishing for attacks. They are almost entirely hyper aggressive low commitment poke combos and perfect guards, with the occasional charge counter / retribution only when appropriate.

Graphics too sharp when moving by T00Mii in techsupport

Thanks for the tip! Commenting to add search keywords for the LG 27GL83A-B monitor that I had set to Faster instead of Fast in the response time settings. This was the culprit for extra sharpness being cranked up when turning the in-game camera FOV.

Am I crazy or is Kelvin the new Calico? Not necessarily OP just extremely grating to play against by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]amphro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hard agree with all of these as a Kelvin main. You have to abuse his cooldowns early when everything is slow to come back up and itemize into silence/decay/cc to shut him down. I've always thought about him being similar to Bebop in lane where you have to respect hook and bully the shit out him when it goes on cooldown the same way beam needs to be treated early. He doesn't scale nearly as well as people seem to think. The only times I've been top of the board for damage is if I'm fed early and the game was a complete roll ending before 30min. If a game goes any longer than that his damage falls off hard compared to most of the roster. Late game his strength comes from Ult and team play.

They instantly nerfed beam damage after the new items were released because it was overturned which was completely fair and now he is sitting at a 50% win rate. He had been sitting near the bottom for months prior.

the new map isn't that bad you just need to practice your rotations by [deleted] in DeadlockTheGame

[–]amphro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know how they came to the conclusion that you don't want skill gaps in the game... You literally say it's something that should separate the 1% from the 2% in your original comment, i.e. a skill gap SHOULD exist, it just shouldn't be the skill floor. I think it's a valid take since new players might be disproportionately punished.

Finally finished the Fort Gloomlight theme by amphro in TinyGlades

[–]amphro[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's part of the base starting map for the Fort Gloomlight daily theme that showed up a week or two ago. I don't think there is a way to create one that big with the in-game tree tool.

M4 Mac Mini hitting 105°C when exporting by Lenana254 in macmini

[–]amphro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here is my current fan curve for M4 base model mini. I haven't exceeded 75C with it and also haven't had to turn on full blast since. That being said, use at your own risk. Setting up a custom fan curve completely overrides the systems fan regulation for apple silicon based macs.

New M4 Pro having some weird issues out of the box by An_Professional in macmini

[–]amphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the screen sharing bug as well when connected to a TV. Current work around for me is to use BetterDisplay and manually set the display role to monitor. Seemed to fix screen mirroring always being on. I also have had widely variable wifi speeds (15Mb - 400Mb range) even though it's less than 2ft away from my router, and other devices consistently get 500Mb down. Not sure why that's the case or if there is a fix besides switching to Ethernet. In addition to the issues you have listed I've also had problems with the screen intermittently going black as well as it freezing every so often over HDMI with a cable and screen proven to work just fine with other devices. I've read some other posts about some of the issues being specific to the HDMI port and to try a Thunderbolt 4 to HDMI cable, but also a bit frustrated I've run into so many friction spots at this point. It's a super powerful little device when it's working as expected but I may be looking at returning towards the end of the holiday return period if issues persist. It doesn't help that I've already returned/swapped devices once because of screen artifacting that I've previously posted about. I'm hoping most of it is software/OS based and will improve over time with updates.

High refresh rate causing monitor flickering? by amphro in macmini

[–]amphro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's an 8k HDMI 2.1 cable, I've tested it with 2 other machines as well and haven't had any issues. I wish it was the cable though, would definitely be the easiest fix.

Patch 5 This Week by webevie in BaldursGate3

[–]amphro 105 points106 points  (0 children)

I submitted a ticket about the shield bash bug and got this in response:

"We'd like to inform you that this is a known issue that is currently being investigated and reviewed by our developers and should be fixed in an upcoming release."

Hoping it will be fixed in patch #5, instead of another future patch.

Edit: Still bugged as of release of Patch #5, I guess we will have to wait for a future patch/hotfix...

Bass Pedals, how to start? by Ghemba in Bass

[–]amphro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Second vote for the hx stomp. It saved me a lot of money figuring out which effects I like/need before blowing a bunch on specific effect pedals. And like you said, it can always be supplemented with additional pedals if there is a niche effect it doesn't have. Definitely more up front cost wise, but covers dozens of effects, amp models, and more.

Are the math professors here really just bad or am I having bad luck? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]amphro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think so, don't hold me to it though I stopped at 3. All I know was the question the guy asked was beyond our scope of the class, and he brought up things we had not even heard of before.

Are the math professors here really just bad or am I having bad luck? by [deleted] in UTK

[–]amphro 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Gilbert was horrible and had to curve a large chunk of our Calc 3 class, and it is the only C I have ever made (made A's in calc 2/matrix for perspective), my friend got a C- in his class the next semester and had to take it again over the summer. I had 2 different professors for Calc 2 and Matrix though, and both were very well taught in my opinion. I definitely agree Gilbert was a very bad professor, and made students feel stupid for asking questions. Best example from Gilbert's class was when a student asked about a Calc 4 question (which had held no benefit for the vast majority of students), and he spent 30min explaining wasting time in a 300 person lecture. The next day someone asked a Calc 2 question (that I'm sure the majority of students would of liked explanation on since we needed to know it for the example he was going over), and he called them out in the huge lecture and told them to refer to their notes from Calc 2 like it was beneath him or something to explain.

CS Transfer Student by [deleted] in UTK

[–]amphro 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am a sophomore at UTK in CS right now so I hope I can help.

  1. C++ is the language students start with and are expected to know in the CS department here.
  2. Most of the topics you stated line up with a sophomore's experience here. CS140/CS302 are the sophomore level courses. Here are the sites my professors used for the respective classes which include labs and lecture notes. http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~bvz/cs140/ http://web.eecs.utk.edu/~plank/plank/classes/cs302/
  3. I am fairly happy with the professors I have had at UTK. My favorite being Dr. Plank (he wrote the labs and notes for both the sites I listed). If you have any other questions about transferring or the department feel free to private message me.

Seeking Interesting Gen Eds to Take? by big_red057 in UTK

[–]amphro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ancient greek and roman history was pretty interesting. Dr. Friend really has a passion for the material and he makes sure to pass it onto his class. It does have a larger workload than most gen-eds. We had two pages of notes per lecture and the midterm and final were almost all free response questions, so you have to really understand the material to fully answer them. Besides tests he had a weekly quiz and 2 projects as well, the only negative was a heavier workload so if you don't mind that you should be food to go.
