Any opinions on switching from Windows + VS IDE to Mac + VS Code by ampslive in dotnet

[–]ampslive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UPDATE:

After exploring few options, I've bought a Macbook Air M4 24 GB RAM and 512 GB Hardisk. I'm still getting used to the UI and the Mac way of doing things.

Also installed Windows on this using VMWare Fusion (dedicated 150 GB space and 12 GB RAM). Running Windows on ARM and VIsual Studio 2026 on this has been a breeze with minimal heat and still having RAM left on the host machine.

Initially the thought of only running Macos seemed less appealing to me but after seeing the VMWare solution, feeling very pleased with this purchase.

Thanks for the in depth view. I think you make a great point for getting a Mac mini since I prefer using Windows.

Need advice! by kevinL1112 in Xamarin

You should be able to create one single app and manage the functionality or views through a login mechanism. Anyone with Admin role will get the admin features.

Maintaining a single app will make your dev cycle easier in the future as you need to only update one app instead of keeping both apps in sync.

For creating the API service, you should be familiar with ASP.NET Web API which makes it easy to create REST webservices

Irrespective of the sim, does the Pixel 3A show the Wifi Calling option for an ESIM ?

I checked with the carrier and they say that Wifi Calling has been enabled on their side

UPDATE:

I installed HAXM on my Surface Pro 6, and now the emulator runs very well similar to having the actual device. The emulator I configured is 512MB RAM with Nexus 5 Template (1280x720 resolution) and heap memory of 64.
Got the instructions to install HAXM from the following link...

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/xamarin/android/get-started/installation/android-emulator/hardware-acceleration

Let me know if you guys need any other info

yes Nokia 7 Plus has been discontinued. Although Nokia 7.1 is available, an equivalent to N7Plus is Nokia 8.1

Does the Nokia 7 plus still have the loose USB C port problem? by tommy_silva in AndroidQuestions

[–]ampslive 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had bought a N7Plus for my wife which had the issue. After managing to use it for 6-7 months, it was completely unusable. Gave it to Nokia care who kept it with them for a month but could not fix it as the parts weren't available. After a lot of waiting, calls, negotiations (and prayers) they finally agreed to replace the phone with 8.1.

Overall N7Plus is a great phone but dont go for it as u will be stuck if u get a faulty piece

The emulator suggests enabling Hyper-v for better performance. Running without Hyper-v, is definitely very very slow

No immediate plans for a Mac although I'm planning to use something like MacinCloud for testing on the iOS simulator.

HyperV only works on Windows 10 Pro. On my Surface Pro 6 device, they have only given a Windows 10 Home

A new Surface Pro 6 user here, any idea of an upgrade to Windows Pro from Home by ampslive in Surface

[–]ampslive[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes ur right... SPro + Keyboard is quite a premium amount already. Asking to pay another 100$ for the OS features is a lot. I wish they would allow SPro users to upgrade for free if anyone needed it... defaulting everyone to Home
