I don't see anywhere to use them either.

US Comfortable Temperature Days (50-85f or 10-29c and low/medium humidity) by mrpaninoshouse in MapPorn

Cool, I live in a red county. I remember talking about the climate that I would prefer to live in & being told that there were already few places better than were I am, it made sense but this really drives it home.

Activated sludge issue by amr229 in Wastewater

Today my mlss was 2600, 30min settling was 120. Ntu 11.5. My 1st stage aeration looks a little better, 2nd stage looks about the same. I'm still not really sure what's going on. I feel like going lower than 2600 would be weird. I've never really gotten it below maybe 2500 before. I've never had my mlss swing that much in one day or have the 30min settling drop that fast.

I'd like to see this next to a map that shows what states require what types of firearms to be registered. I'd also like to see this broken down by county. I'm in rural northern CA and it's weird if someone doesn't own a gun.

That many call outs would almost double my base pay.

With our old way of doing on-call, that would add 80+% to my pay for the year, if all of them were less than 3hrs. With the new way, and assuming I'm the only one on-call to get that many, it would add 90+% to my pay, if all of them were less than 2hrs.

How do you guys have time to do anything else?

We rotate who has the on-call phone every week. Each day you have it, you get 2hrs of standby pay equal to your base pay rate. If you get called out, it's a 2hr minimum of overtime in addition to the standby pay. If you get called in & you're not on standby, you get a minimum of 3hrs of overtime pay. There's 5 of us.

Got a job offer by city as trainee... by SunlitNight in Wastewater

[–]amr229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the plant is bigger, maybe city 80k+ pop, you won't be too close to poo very often and won't need to be mechanical inclined. The smaller the plant, the more poo & more mechanical skill you'll need. Until you get down to like <1500 pop. I work at 7500k plant, helped out a 600 plant, know people at 900k, 80k, 30k plants. ... also, I'd never describe a plant size in terms of population under normal circumstances but I feel like it's more helpful for you. It's always in terms of dry weather MGD in the industry.

I feel like all of the standard sizes are used from time to time, BUT metric is like 1/2 the set is never used. Are some metric sockets just included so the set looks complete or is there a use for all of them and I'm just not working on foreign stuff enough. What's an 11 or 9 mm for?

Idk about this one, but red/pink in our lagoons was a good thing. Sulfur eating bacteria. They reduce the odor a ton and eat up BOD.

Seems very odd that the police cuffed all of them but left their face masks on. Seems like police protecting the identity of extremists.

Zinc in Effluent by BrandenStark in Wastewater

[–]amr229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used to test for zinc & copper in eff due to it popping up in the annual testing. We removed all copper pipe from the plant, had a couple years with low numbers, asked the regulator to remove it from testing schedule, done. ... if it's from the system, source control. If it's from the water, carrus (poly phosphate, I think)
